Where are all my SOLO wedding filmmakers at? What is your biggest challenge navigating the day by yourself? Drop em below!!
Not knowing if I should buy the Zv-e1 or the fx30, want to use it for ceremony films
@@TheGatewayGetaway Two solid choices! I havent used the ZV-E1 but ive heard and seen good things!
Biggest challenge solo shooting is shooting multi camera ceremonies and just wanting multiple angles for different scenarios
So by solo means literal 1x camera for the entire day?
@@JordanSubido Not usually one camera but just one filmmaker instead of having an assistant helping you capture multiple angles. I tend to use multiple cameras as a solo shooter
I filmed my first wedding a couple weeks ago (solo) and I honestly couldn’t have done it without this channel.. thanks so much for this valuable content! 🙏🏽
Thank you so much for the kind words! I am so glad this channel has helped you in some way!! Appreciate you and hope the wedding went well! 💪
I’m shopping my very first wedding at the end of November and I’m so excited! I’m working with a Canon EOS Rebel T5 that I got from my dad year and years ago (😅) BUT I’ve opted to rent a 50mm F1.8 lens from BorrowLenses instead of solely relying on my kit lenses after a lot of research (mostly your videos, they’re a godsend.) I think the most intimidating thing is that I feel like I need more gear. I priced my package to ensure I have a budget to account for any rentals I may have to do in order to make the best product but every time I watch a video for more tips, I’m hit with different things I may need. Lenses, filters, marketing, cages, gimbals, etc etc etc. I’m hoping the equipment I have and the little things I’ve bought is enough.
I'm actually helping a photographer this weekend shoot the video for a wedding. I'm a bit nervous because I've never done one, but I'm mostly nervous about capturing sound!
I film solo all the time and it gets so hectic when there are 2 photographers. I always smile when the bride says there is only one. I know what you mean about the next big camera coming out, but at the same time the cameras we have access to now, the a7iv, the a7sii, fx3. Those cameras are everything we need and more to tell a great story. They look incredible. So, I'm never worried about the next camera to come out because I know I won't need it.
Oh yeah, thats why I always reach out to the photographer to double check their team for the day. Also you are 100% right! We really do have EVERYTHING we need and then some. These camera companies just have me conditioned to always be entranced in the new. Always good to remind yourself the tools we have help us tell beautiful stories already.
Thanks for the great advice! I’ve only ever shot solo in my first two weddings, but it’s good to know these things if I ever have to do it solo again. I’m very privileged to have a couple friends who are talented and that I can fully trust as second shooters. They’ve made my life so much easier.
That’s awesome! I’ve had some really awesome second shooters in the past and have a few that I still rotate when I need them! Second society also helps vetting and finding quality second shooters!
Definitely needed this video! Thanks 🤝✨
Thanks a lot for all the videos you put out, I watch at least a video per day since I found your channel and it has been super helpful.
I can totally relate with everything you said here because I film weddings alone.
It was bizarre the first times but with time, I am getting a hold of the process.
Could you do a video where you talk about your production, what softwares to use, which is best and why.
Once again Thanks a lot , you are the absolute best.🎉🎉
Aye this is perfect bro, I've been looking at the FX30! I just shot my first solo wedding it was a great experience. I think my biggest point as a solo filmmaker is to keep it simple, I found myself a few times thinking of cool shots to get and then realizing it's not about me, focus on the couple and make their day special to them.
Just wanna say the b-roll you included in this video is fire. You’re eye and composition is so freaking good bro ‼️
Honestly to me the fx30 is the best Tripod camera, I have it on the tripod pointed at the alter, as I don't have to worry about it overheating or stop recording on me, I use the ZVE1 for my gimbal camera, to shoot the bride moments, couple moments etc. The fx30 at night now that's where it is iffy and you lose quality no matter the 2500 iso Native, I prefer to shoot withy a74 or ZVE1 at night
FX3 and FX30 are a killer wedding combo. I've got the FX3 as my main and 2 FX30s as my B and C cams. Overkill? Probably. But so nice to have the same interface, same layout, and similar color science between all 3. I shoot most of my weddings solo, and generally I don't mind. But those hectic days with multiple locations I really push for a second.
Hi Brian, what codec are you finding success with paired with what memory cards? V90, CFe?
One of the hardest parts of solo shooting for me is capturing the bride walking down the aisle and the grooms reaction at the same time. Most of the time, my cameras on tripods get blocked by the standing guests, so i have to "Guess" where to put the tripod.
Totally!! I mentioned this briefly in the wedding film breakdown but usually during the brides entrance there’s a few seconds before she walks down where you can whip the camera around and grab a low angle shot of the grooms first reaction and then when the bride starts walking pivot back. Definitely situational but this method has usually worked well for me whenever my side angle is compromised
Agreed. I stand right side (of groom/left if looking at alter) so I grab a few seconds of bride and then a few seconds of groom. Should be enough for you to cut the parts you need.
Ooof, the screaming obscenities at the computer because of the second shooter's shots hit me hard.
Haha right!? I’ve had to go on a lot of self reflecting walks in my neighborhood to calm down way too many times 😂
💜💙💜 10:32 not gonna be investing & now I want to switch to sony
For a beginner with fx30 doing my first wedding, do you suggest Cine EI or flexible ISO?
My biggest challenge is when there are multiple locations and the day is rushed. I put in my contract "Please allow 30 minutes for the videographer to get from preps to ceremony and 30 minutes for the videographer to get from ceremony to reception".
Love that! When things are rushed it definitely throws a wrench in the creative process. I’ve been in situations where it’s 10 minutes before ceremony, no one was is mic’d, tripods need to go up, and It’s just stressful.
Most weddings now I usually sacrifice the individual portraits or family photos to allow 30 minutes for ceremony set up. Most of the time, the photographer is taking family or bridal party and I capture this after the ceremony anyway.
I always struggled with that even if I have a second shooter
1:00 spoke to me
Color Grading is top-notch, do you mind sharing what Luts you used and anything else to achieve this clean look.
Hey Alex, I used my lut pack the Unveiled Luts, you can find more information about them here: www.waywardnorthfilms.com/unveiledluts
Often times the couple chooses to have 2 photographers and 1 videographers. We have no say. And I’m not all of a sudden gonna hire a 2nd when the couple didn’t pay. How do you handle this?
Totally feel that! I think it depends on your comfort level and the expectations. When I know the wedding has multiple locations, 2 photographers, a hectic schedule, I always encourage the couple to consider adding a second.
Most times it just takes a simple explanation about the importance of multiple angles, having two people to be in multiple places at once, so that we can capture more from the day so they never miss a moment.
It’s all too in what your couples value and sometimes video is just that last resort for some couples and the bare minimum is sufficient.
As long as you are doing your best to explain the importance and want the very best for them that’s all you can do.
@@WaywardNorth yes even when it’s a solitary venue, the couple hires 2 togs and 1 vid. Like you said, their priority is not with video. Anyway I love your stuff and have your luts and will be using your code for uncut gems. You’re a lot better than many other influencers in the space. Keep rockin
You said FX3 several times? Isn't this video about the FX30? Also your link for your thoughts of the FX30 didn't pop up when you stated that...?
@@ekphotography Yes FX30, thanks for letting me know
@@WaywardNorth No problem, just thought the video would be about the FX30 and it kind of wasn't at all. Thanks
@@ekphotography Mostly about filming Solo and the weddings highlighted were with the FX30
Great tutorial! Were these single-cam solo shooter weddings full-length or short highlights reels?
Thank you! Liz and Cristian was single cam along with Mike and Cheyenne. The others were multi cam
I want to look up unsponsored unbiased reviews of uncut gems but RUclips will only show me the Adam sandler movie called Uncut Gems lol damn that’s frustrating
I totally get that! One thing about this channel is that any sponsor I bring in will always be 100% legit and quality resources for filmmakers. While these vids may be sponsored, the work they did with Jaclyn and Joshua’s wedding video really speaks for itself. But I get wanting to see unsponsored reviews. You always have the code WAYWARD75 to try ‘em out at a huge discount!
@@WaywardNorth ya exactly I’m not trying to put down your review I just like to look at a bunch before I pull the trigger. Your discount code is amazing and I hope I can utilize it
@@bakerfx4968 for sure I didn’t think that at all! I would feel the same way if I was investing in any new product 💪
It’s a good movie tho
I recently watched this movie the coincidence
Time code???
How many cameras are you using during ceremony solo
Atleast 2! Sometimes more if I have the time but generally two is all I need to cover everything
Yeah 😂 that’s Sony. I did get the S5 IIX in the meantime until Sony drops something new.
I don’t blame you! Right now I have the A7IV and A7Siii. I just want to wait it out cause I just have that feeling 😂
Baby Burano for the video side ???
Good to have tripods but make sure you press record 🤣😂🤣
Haha facts
