This would have taken a lot of work and a passion to help people. Your support and guidance and sharing at no cost to us is unrivalled. You're a legend.
So nice of you, thanks so much Adam
Fantastic BTS! Please make more when you have the opportunity
I have two more coming very soon, thanks for watching
Weddings in the UK just look so chill! I love it!
Haha, yes this was a particularly chill day with a lovely relaxed couple too
I can't imagine syncing all of this for (this) BTS cut. so many starts and stops without timecode. You're a master :)
It was quite intimidating at first but once I got into the flow it wasn't too bad. Took about a day to sync it all.
Yes, @RooFilms - brilliant BTS - I really enjoyed watching it. 👏👏👏
Cheers Craig, massively appreciated
Yes dude . . . this is bloomin' great
Thank you so much kind sir
Would love an edit BTS as well!
So much to cover in a video, I do offer that in my mentoring classes though
Wedding videos shot in the UK are always great and never over the top I would love to shoot there one day or even visit but until then thank you for this lovely bts 🙏🏾
Thanks for watching, I hadn't released how good we have it over here, most of my weddings are like this to be fair
Great video brother. Well done!
well done mate. im a single shooter too.. (for most weddings) great tips!
Thanks so much for watching
This is cracking dude!
Thank so much Tim
Great video honestly , really learn a lot only thing I was suggest for people like me in the us putting the names of the body’s and lens in the description, cause if I click on the links , it tries to change my Amazon region to the uk. But other then that amazing content man !
great video mate
Thanks so much
Thank you for the BTS, man! Even though where I am from, weddings are totally different, hats off for all the tips and tricks! Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much for watching
Nicely done there. 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
This is brilliant Roo! Great work! I want to shoot a wedding with you!
One day my man, one day! We were so close in 2021
Great BTS and fantastic colors on the final footage.
Thanks so much for the kind words
shots from standard profile looked so good and when I decided to take a look how the final video looks like .....
Thanks for watching
love the simplicity yet beautifully done videos. it would be a great delight to show us how you edit your clips, maybe in da vinci resolve- hope its the one you use for editing :) hello from the US
Sooo good this Roo. Great job 🙌🏼
Thank so much, really appreciate you watching
Love this! Really great insight into how you work
Thank you Steve
Lovely stuff
Thanks for watching Jacob
Great work!
Thanks so much for watching
Love the Lut in your footage
Thanks so much. I use Film Convert to grade the footage. All the footage in the BTS is ungraded though
Invaluable help. Thank you for putting this together. Beautiful work
You're very welcome!
Wow God bless you!!
This is so helpful - thanks! 🙏🏻
Thanks for watching Daniel
Wow. This is so cool. Thanks for sharing. I am a wedding photographer with destination clients mostly. I am based in N Macedonia, we have a large diaspora that comes home for weddings and usually one of the spouses is foreign. And sometimes that spouse (bride or groom) is from the UK. All I can say is that working with people from England/UK has always been a delight. Very well mannered during the day and absolute beasts when it comes to partying later during the reception.
Haha that's the most perfect description of English people.
Nice work got a sub fella 👍
Ace, thanks so much for the sub
These BTS videos are always great. I love seeing how different people work and manage the day to still get great results. Great job man!
When you put on the beginning "standard profile" are you meaning you're not using picture profiles at all?
Thanks so much for watching. Yes that's right no picture profile at all. All the shots you see in the video are how they looked straight out of camera
@@roo_films Really nice job. I noticed a lot more, if not almost all are more stationary shots too, not as much motion involved in the shot itself but more relying on the movement within the frame of just the things happening. I'll definitely have to try this stripped down approach for my next one to change it up.
This is brilliant, rhanks for putting it together and sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching
Thanks man. Great video, very helpful
Glad you liked it!
Thanks mate! Great video!!
Thanks for watching
what do you fancy as far as focus modes and stabilization on your A7SIII? Great work by the way
Hey, for stabilisation I have the Active Stabilisation turned on, this changed the game for me in terms of being able to get stable shots handheld. There's a slight crop when using this mode but it's 100% worth it.
Focus mode I'm in autofocus for the majority of the day, I use the medium sized focus point and use the thumb stick to move it to where I want. I also have it set so if I hold the thumbstick in it switches to manual focus for as long as it's held down, handy for when I'm locked on to something and people are walking past in the foreground.
My B & C Cams are usually locked off on manual focus
great! Thanks!@@roo_films
Great vid dude! This must of been a monster to edit and put together! Very well done!! 🔥
Thanks Paul, yeah it took me a good two weeks to put together
Love your content it’s really going to help me get better as a videographer.
Happy to help!
Nice Video. Love your BTS
Thanks so much for watching
Roo, it looks like you love your 55mm. Can I just ask what do you use when you have a tight space for bridal preparation and also when the bride is placed to close to the source of light? TA
In some situations I use my 35mm 1.8. Recently though I’ve been trying to not lean on that, and just work around the restrictions of a tighter lens. Forces me to be more creative if I stick with the same focal length no matter what
How do you pack away your cameras so quickly before ceremony end? Don't you need those camera to keep recording until ceremony end?
In the UK when the couple have finished their Vows they have to sign the register, which is basically the legal paperwork and we are not allowed to film it. So I use that 10minutes to get everything packed away.
21:51 - On your B and C cameras for the ceremony...
Do you have them in manual focus?
Mainly curious about the B-cam at the back and how/when you would choose the focus point if the groom is not yet in place.
Yes I have them on manual focus, I usually ask the photographer to stand in the position I expect the groom to be so I can lock focus. I set it to f4 so I have a bit of leeway
this is incredible, thank you for sharing. The final video looks so good and this BTS video helps to understand how you did it.
Do you have a video on your camera settings for this? I'm really interested what whitebalance, focus and metering mode you use. Filming my first wedding next week and try to learn as much as I can. thank you
Hey Andres thanks for watching, I have another BTS video coming out on Wednesday where I think I discuss those things.
Looking forward to this @@roo_films
Great! Only one thing I was thinking about is, how reacts the photographer to your tripods during the ceremony and when you place them in the hall in the evening? They are in view all the time anyway and probably doesn't come out as nicely for the photos (photographer? ://). How do you handle with if the photographer speaks to you about it? Thanks in advance.
Nice video thank you!!!
I always speak to the photographer about my camera placement and make sure they're happy with it. I think most photographers realise that the speeches are a much bigger deal for video than photo though, so I've never had any complaints
Hey mate great video ! Thanks a lot ! I’m wondering why don’t you shoot in Log ?
Just for speed in the editing process
@@roo_films ok great. And I guess for a color consistency in your different films ?
Great BTS very informative, I only started my videography journey June 2023 so videos like this are a godsend for picking up tips! Quick question, do you prefer hand held filming over gimball, and if so what's your reasons? I've been very tempted to resort back to handheld filming. Thanks!
Yes much prefer handheld. If you look at my films there is very little movement. I like to keep my gear as minimal as possible and I’d be worried I’d be missing moments whilst trying to set up a gimbal.
@roo_films May i know if you use AF/MF on the cameras that are on the tripod? . if you use AF, what zone do you generally use. Thanks a lot for sharing these BTS.
Hey I use MF on my static cameras. Often I use AF to lock in the focus on the area I want, then switch to MF so it doesn’t move
@@roo_films I thought the same and wanted to confirm. Thank you for clarifying. I believe you have configured your joystick to AF-> MF? Am i correct?
@roo_films i mean did you configure your joy stick to AF/MF Control Hold?
@@harshavardhan7277yes I’m not sure the terminology of it but if I press the joystick in it switches to MF until I let go. When I let go it switched back to AF. Can’t remember if it’s called toggle or hold.
I have the opposite set up on a custom button too. So when I press that the camera switches to MF and stays locked on MF
@@roo_films Thank you again for answering my question. You have basically setup the joystick to "AF/MF Control Hold" , which switches the focusing mode while the button is held down and the custom button to "AF/MF Ctrl Toggle" , which switches the focusing mode until the button is pressed again.
Thank you for this wonderful video Roo. I shoot weddings and watching your handheld technique was enlightening. I generally use a gimbal.
Question about audio. You said that you usually stick a Sony TX660 into the pocket of speakers. In US weddings the Maid of Honor often gives a speech. What do you do for audio when the speaker is a woman wearing a dress?
Thank so much for the kind words. Yes so for female speakers I still clip the TX650 to their dress either on the arm strap or on the front just above the breast. I speak to them beforehand and ask them where they would be most comfortable with it going then I get them to put it on themselves so I'm not messing about with their dress. Usually though it's the TX650 strapped to the venue microphone that has the best audio, but this was one of those rare occasions where they didn't want to use a mic.
@@roo_films thank you for the explanation. Outstanding work. You’ve inspired me to try to shoot more of the day handheld. For follow shots in front or behind the bride when she enters, I’m still more comfortable using the gimbal. But you have shown me that it is possible to get great results going handheld, especially with three points of contact, shooting as a still, Photographer. Honestly, I shoot on the Panasonic S5ii, which has outstanding stabilization. I really shouldn’t be scared to shoot handheld outside of technique. Lol.
What picture profile of your drone? Thanks
Just the standard profile
What do you think about A7RV for video wedding? I use A7SIII and A7IV...with 35, 85 and 55 lenses...Thanks bro!
I love the articulating screen on the A7RV, I'm not 100% sure on the spec but ints it similar to the A7IV? so it would be great for shooting weddings.
What a great insight man! Thanks for sharing and mad respect for your choice to do this solo. I know from experience how hard that can be.
You mentioned filming in the standard profile. Do you relay on auto whit balance? Any custom adjustments to the profile? And how much work goes into color grading to get the final look? It looks awesome
Thanks Martin, no I don't do any tweaks to the profile. I do a mixture of auto and manual white balance. Recently I have much preferred shooting manual because I like my footage to feel quite warm, in the 6200K area. For the grade I use FilmConvert and one of their preset LUTs set to 70%. There's not much flexibility to tweak the footage so its a very simple process. Just have to make sure I get it right in camera.
Does your BTS camera and main camera use timecode? You seem to sync both camera well. Do you use timecode? Or anytype of sync software for multi camera?
No I didn't use timecode, I had to manually sync the B-roll footage with the BTS. For Ceremony and Speeches for my films though I just use Final Cuts built in Multicam feature with is perfect.
this is fascinating! Can I trouble you for a question - you micced up that dude in about 1 second! Was that a TX650 just dropped in a pocket? And what would you do for someone who doesn't have a top pocket?
thanks either way - great work on this and the wedding vid itself
Hey, yes it was a TX650. Usually I have one attached to the venue mic as well and that is usually the sound source I use, and the on jacket one is just a backup. But for this wedding they decided against using the mic. If there is no pocket I'll attach it inbetween their shirt buttons or high up on their waistcoat near their breast
What head are you using on your monopod mate? Thanks so much for making this video too, super informative stuff!
Hey, thanks for watching. It's this one:
amzn.to/3TRvri7
Hi! Wow!!! This is so helpful especially for us who’s starting doing videography on weddings! Im a wedding photographer myself and now diving into videos! My first question is do we need a gimbal at all? 😅 i bought one and im planning to do hybrid shooting soon. I was thinking twice when i bought it but i saw this video of you not using gimbal at all and the output is amazing!!! What can you say? Have the gimbal refunded? 😅
Thanks so much, yes for me I don't think the gimbal is worth it for the set up etc. I'd rather be as minimal as possible
@@roo_films thankyou so much!
Hi again! Just wanted to ask how many mic’s do you have? And did you give it to just groom and mic for ceremony?
Thanks so much!
So i want to start shooting events or cinematic videos in some time and i searched for like a good beginner video camera and found this ( Lumix g80 or g85 with 20-60mm kit lens) for like 340 EUR, and the a gimbal at like 160 EUR.
Do you think with this setup i can manage to shoot a little event or wedding by myself? This would be my first camera that i will buy. I am a total beginner.
For my hobby i am now shooting for instagram with my phone. I am now on a tight bidget so..
Yes mate, whatever camera you have is fine to start off with. Just charge accordingly based on your experience and ability. We all have to start somewhere
when shooting the portrait session, what frame rate do you use?
50fps. I stay at this frame rate all day so I can slow any of my footage down if required
@@roo_filmsgreat footage. Do you stay at 50 even for ceremony and speeches?
What shotgun mic are you using?
It's the Sennheiser MKE 400: amzn.to/3UVMWPq
What if photograpger would've used flash, wouldn't that bother you?
No it's fine. It's only very occasionally I'm working with a tog that uses flash all day, I can work around it
Why you don’t use gimbal
I much prefer to be quick on my feet capturing moments, I think I gimbal would only be use for for 2-3 shots per wedding max and its not worth the hassle of having to balance a gimbal and switch cameras over
@@roo_films really love your wedding video and bts
Standard profile?! Scine or slog only way tbh
Log is super handy in some situations. But if you are able to nail exposure in camera majority of the time then it’s an unnecessary extra step in post
