- The very best Banana Bread is so easy to make! This is my absolute favorite recipe for using up overripe bananas, it's soft, moist, and bursting with banana, brown sugar, and cinnamon flavors. Slathered with melted butter it's perfect alongside a hot cup of coffee for breakfast.

My mom grew up poor and didn’t always have food. So she rarely wasted food. She always made banana bread when they bananas were too ripe. She’s an amazing cook and baker. I should have her write down her recipes. I love your channel, new subscriber. ❤️

You should make a RUclips channel for her!!!! That will be your memories!!!
I definitely would!! I lost my momma way to soon she was only 48 & that was one of my biggest regrets, not knowing how to make Her recipes the food I grew up on.. I only remembered 2 by heart

I recently introduced your channel to my husband.
Me: this guy’s pretty cool! He’s a former science teacher turned food blogger.
Husband: so he’s.... “Baking Bad”.
That is all he calls you now. 😂😩
Lmao.....I had a good laugh at that. Lol
That is what I’m going to call it from now on

Please forgive me for loving your husband LOL!!!
Or Breaking Bread 😷
Omg John NEEDS to see this comment
For all my lazy chefs out there, I did this recipe in one bowl with one fork and one spatula. Mixed all the dry ingredients together first and then added the room temp butter and eggs, followed by the cooled down baked bananas and it turned out excellent! Also threw in a half cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips and it was phenomenal.
Baked bananas?
If you dont mind me asking, what size pan did you use and how long did you cook the banana bread
@@isabellagraves8237 I've actually done this recipe with 2 different pans and it worked great both times. One was a glass 8x11 casserole dish and the other was a standard 8.5" x 4.5" metal loaf pan. Did both at 350F for about 50 minutes.
The glass cooked faster since it was more spread out though so you have to keep an eye on it around the 40 minute mark🙂
Omg.. same here
@Retired_Jed104 ... thanks for that.
Sounds like my kind of recipe.
I am going to use your version.
🥣🥮🍰
INGREDIENTS (from the recipe link in the description)
▢ 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour (215g)
▢ 1 tsp baking soda (6g)
▢ 1 tsp salt (6g)
▢ 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (3g)
▢ 3/4 cup Brown sugar (150g)
▢ 1/2 cup unsalted butter room temperature (113g)
▢ 2 eggs large
▢ 3 bananas Very ripe mashed about (430g)
▢ 1 tsp vanilla (5ml)
You are a literal life saver
1 and 3/4 cups is not 215g more like almost 500
@@beautifulcarpetdiagram Not quite. The measurement is correct for all purpose flour - 1 cup is about 110 grams of sieved all purpose flour.
@@beautifulcarpetdiagram 1 3/4 c = 219.0215599259g so you're incorrect. You're clearly on the internet so use the resource that's literally right at your finger tips.
Thank you for this! It makes it easy to prepare
Me: let’s wait for the banana to ripe for another day.
Next day: someone has eaten all the bananas 🙄
Lol
Haha 😂 that’s my son!
It has happened to me too
Yup this did happen to me the other day
That’s me
Gotta love John's happy smiles whenever he's baking.
For sure - he makes me happy 😊

I've made this 3 times already in my convection oven. a foolproof recipe. Honestly, you cannot go wrong with this. I creamed butter and sugar with a hand mixer for 2 mins then added the eggs while mixing with 30sec intervals. And just yesterday I mixed a chopped-up chocolate bar for extra flavor and it came out perfectly. Can't thank you enough. You are now my Baking Guru!
"You can't go wrong with this"
watch me mess this up, made the batter today, cooking it tomorrow morning.
If you dont mind me asking, what size pan did you use and how long did you cook the banana bread
@@isabellagraves8237 I've used a standard 9x5 loaf pan but only once and since then I have not seen it so I decided to bake it in a 9x9 brownie pan and everytime I've made this I've baked it for 50 to 60 minutes and they always came out perfectly. If you're worried about over/under baking I would check at the 50 minute mark and stick a wooden toothpick or skewer in. If it comes out relatively clean but with a few crumbs it should be fine. If underbaking it is the fear I've stuck it back in the oven for 10 more minutes and it still comes out nice. The bread is fairly forgiving in my experience.
I love this recipe so much, I've made this banana bread more than 10 times now and it always comes out perfect!!
Thank you John!

Ok, but I JUST made a banana bread this afternoon, and now you come out with the perfect banana bread recipe ? You truly are a mind reader.
I made a loaf Sunday , and by late afternoon it was gone.
Great minds seem to think alike as I too made a banana-blueberry loaf today.
If you dont mind me asking, what size pan did you use and how long did you cook the banana bread
Since u did it first، aren't you the mind reader?
Altered recipe, doubled the recipe but added a 7th banana, 3/4 cup cocoa powder, 3/4 cup white sugar, lessened the brown sugar by 1/2 cup, and added a splash of coffee extract. Made them as large muffins which only took about 30 minutes to bake.
That boy is going to melt a lot of hearts... he’s so adorable!
When can we expect a Preppy Kitchen Cookbook?
John upgraded his apron! Love the leather accents. He should add them to his merch. I'd buy one.
I got one similar to that - it’s very cool 😎
meh
KILEY KITTRIDGE why wont you agree to adding this apron to his merch?
Baked banana bread for the first time and I must say that your recipes are always perfect! Perfect ingredients, perfect instructions and perfect quantities specified
baked this today and it turned out good. i added sliced almonds. i love how you do your baking,so precise and easy to follow.
Hands down, this is the best Banana Bread recipe. It nevers goes wrong. I will literally pass down this recipe to my children and grandkids. Thanks John!
You have the most adorable son 😍😍😍😍😍
Omg!!! Once again I made another recipe from John and I nailed it! My family is loving all the recipes! Thank you so much! I didn’t have a rectangular pan but I placed mine over parchment paper on one side on a square 9” pan and placed aluminum foil on the other side to hold it and it came out perfect!!!❤❤❤
The brown sugar you used looks like our (UK) 'Light Soft Brown Sugar'. We also have Dark Soft Brown, Demera (looks like granulated, but brown), muscovado and pale brown 'Golden Caster Sugar' which gives a slight caramel taste to cakes and biscuits. Hope this helps. Love ALL your gorgeous recipes 😘💞💖💓

I’ve used this recipe so many times to make banana bread and it came out perfect! I love it 10/10❤️❤️
I made this today, leaving out the cinnamon, adding cardamom and walnuts. Amaaaazing 🥰
Omg walnuts is an amazing idea. I’m gonna try that
Can you do a biscoff (cookie butter) cake or cupcake?!!! This flavor is to die for 🤩🤩🤩
Help me get this to the top!!
I know of an amazing cupcake recipe using Biscoff and the crackers as a base as well as 1/2 of the cookie for decoration. There's a little bit more to them so if you're interested in the video just hit me up. I'm NOT joking when I say these cupcakes are to die for. My family members actually hid cupcakes to take home, lol. Its a good thing I made 24 of them. It was my 1st time ever using Biscoff in a dessert (never knew of its existence) but it was certainly not my last... 😋
Are you talking about Speculos?
@@littleceasar9351 Yep. Here in America they're called Biscoff biscuits. The spread? Biscoff spread or Cookie Butter (depending on what store you buy them in). At least that's what it says on the 3 pkgs of biscuits and 4 jars of Biscoff spread I have in my cabinet. 🤭 Can you tell just how much I love'em? 😋
Oh man it is delicious

I made this banana bread this afternoon, and it turned out fantastic. Thanks for the great recipe!
I just made this recipe, and it's the best banana bread recipe I've found. Light and airy. Just amazingly delish! I added some walnuts. Yum, yum!!!! Thank you, darling!!
If you dont mind me asking, what size pan did you use and how long did you cook the banana bread
@@isabellagraves8237 I don't know the exact size but it was the large loaf pan. And I baked it in my counter-top oven which is pretty hot. I don't remember the exact time but I believe it was consistent with what John said. I checked it with a toothpick. I added extra cinnamon, too.
I’m glad your banana bread came out as lovely as you are 🕺
I've tried 2 or 3 different banana bread recipes and this is the only one that went out exactly as it supposed to be. It's moist and rich but not sticky. It also backed through perfectly unlike other recipes.

i’m cooking it again today. using this recipe. i like that the blog also mentions cloves and nutmeg. they do make some nice difference that i appreciate
Oh yes! I love the banana bread from my local coffee shop, but I never knew how to make it at home! (Banana bread is not a very common recipe in France) Now I'm going to try it as soon as i can! 👀♥️
So cute at the end 😊 love it also I died at the romantic part 😂
When you get intimate with the bread . ❤️
I've made this banana bread recipe several times. It's always delicious. The banana hack is brilliant.
Just made this recipe and added 1/4 teaspoon of allspice to the batter (also made muffins instead of bread) and it tasted DELICIOUS! Even my picky bf LOVED IT.
Thank you for the recipe! Tried it tonight and added roasted crushed walnuts 🤤
I added Julia Child’s pecan pralines-in the oven right now. Smells amazing
Just had my entire family try it and they LOVED it.
A few alterations I made:
- Used whipped up browned butter to bring a nutty flavor when paired with brown sugar. Trust me on this. It's soo much better.
- I had to measure the brown sugar in cups instead of in weight because 150g originally yielded too much sugar for me!
- had to separate the batter into 2 baking dishes for baking
- only baked the bread for about 40 mins in my oven! It was perfectly cooked.
Thank you thank you. I baked this... And i must say its so good. I add in chopped walnut and dried figs cut into small pieces. The bread is moist and its so yummy
Just made this today, my kids loved it. I used pumpkin spice seasoning in place of cinnamon. Came out excellent. Thank you!
Thank you for this recipe! I just used the recipe to make some bread and it turned out delicious! I even used the banana ripening hack. I only had 2 bananas and didn’t have as much brown sugar as I thought so used have white sugar and half brown sugar. It turned out soooo good! It’s not overly sweet, it’s just perfect!
If you dont mind me asking, what size pan did you use and how long did you cook the banana bread
@@isabellagraves8237 I just used a standard size bread pan and cooked for the length of time listed in the recipe
What a cutie patootie !! You’re such a proud Dad!
I never liked banana bread but after trying this recipe, I’m in love! I sprinkle brown sugar on top before baking. Heavenly!
Thank you for the tip on ripening the bananas in the oven, I am often ready for banana bread but no ripe bananas to use. Really enjoy your videos, they have a relaxed and wholesomeness to them.
Thank you for this easy yet delicious recipe. I made this today and it came out nicely! 👍🏻
I love all of your recipes and your videos are so helpful. You've really helped with all of my Thanksgiving baking! Happy Thanksgiving!
This worked so well! I used 2 bananas and 3 eggs instead of the other way around and no vanilla + added choco chips, raisins, and pecan pieces. I also used a flat baking sheet instead of the bread mold and put it in for aprox 30 min - it turned out so yummy! 🤓💕
I just made your recipe right now and MY GOD I have to say that this is the best banana bread I have ever eaten. Thanks for sharing your AMAZING recipe with us!!!!! OMG!

I just made this for my family . Omg they love it . I just found your channel and I can’t be any happier. I can’t wait to try out some of your other receipts.😋
I did mine today! First one wasn’t cooked at first so i keep baking it (because i used the tall baking tray ) then the second loaf i changed to a brownie tray which is perfect!! They came out beautifully and amazing taste ✨✨❤️ Thank you
I did your red velvet cake for my birthday today, it came out smelling sooooo good! Love from Brazil 💚💛
Thank you so much for this recipe❤️! My banana bread is just out of the oven and it smells so delicious💖

Thank you. I always mess stuff up but my family loves everything I make of yours and always eats it I feel so good about it!
Aww the babies are growing really fast, he’s adorable x
I just made a banana bread loaf today following this recipe, it came out ultra super duper delicious, soft and moist thank you!!!
PS for anybody out there who doesn’t have baking soda on hand (which I didn’t) I just used triple the amount of baking powder instead of soda (so 3 tsp baking powder) and my loaf came out super soft and airy and so so good!!!! I also added in a dash of nutmeg to my dry ingredients lol
If you dont mind me asking, what size pan did you use and how long did you cook the banana bread
easy recipe, after making it for 4-5 times, i started adding 2 more bananas, for a total of five, and i don t put them in the oven anymore because i noticed that if you don t let them cool properly in the banana peel, and peel them off while they are still hot, to much of the water evaporates from them and they have a dry fell in the cake. So now i mash them with a fork and leave them on the table for 10 minutes, remash them, and they are great, no dry tasting banana bred, even if the bananas were not ripped.
A great and easy recipe and thank you for the metric measurements !
It’s amazing how you put so much information for us newbies in such a short video 👏

I made banana bread for the first time today!!! So happy how it turned out.
I made this substituting butter for olive oil, used extra cinnamon and vanilla, added 1/2 of bran and it turned out great! Good base recipe.
Yummm, lookin good! I love banana bread, it reminds me of being five years old in my kitchen with my mum in London, so warm and happy! (The bread and the memory 😂)
I literally make this same recipe like once every two weeks no cap. Turns out PERFECT everytime
Thank you for the recipe! I'm new to baking and this was so easy and quick that I ended up making 3 batches in like 2 days lol. Even using lower-quality ingredients(I swapped butter for margarine and brown sugar for white sugar) it turned out so good! First batch got stuck to the loaf pan even though I greased my pan pretty well but it was so tasty I had to give it one more shot. Next day I tried using parchment paper and added a few blueberries to one batch and a couple tablespoons of cocoa powder to the other and they turned out great! Shoutout to the guy posting measurements in grams in the comments. I would've been totally lost without him.

Just in case anyone is wondering, I know he said he used a 9x13 inch loaf pan, but I used a 9x5 loaf pan and it seemed to work just fine 😊
I made this last weekend, used weight measurements. I also used the hand mixer instead of folding in dry ingredients. I was worried cause my consistency was more liquidy than yours by quite a bit. Baked for 50min and it came out amazing. Stayed moist and soft for days. We finished the last bit of it on Thur with a cuppa tea, was still great. This is now in my personal recipe list. thanks
Thanks again for another great recipe! My first time making this. Already in the oven, can't wait to see how it tastes!

Thank you for this recepie. So far this banana bread recepie is the best I've tried. It's not only moist, but it's fluffy as well. Seriously the consistency is like a store bought one. My whole family loved it. I did't have brown sugar at home so I used coconutflower sugar instead of white sugar and it came out amazing. Also added some goji berries and whole almonds. I'm gonna experiment further on whith this base recepie. Thank you again. 🙏
Delicious! I used frozen bananas that I thawed in the microwave at half power for 30 seconds. It really is incredibly moist. I needed 60 minutes in the oven. A wonderful way to use all those bananas I've been throwing in the freezer when they became too ripe.
