Man. That was a quality presentation. Congrats! Ubuntu getting better and better.
The best thing with this version of Ubuntu is the relatively large CPU/GPU/battery usage improvements of GNOME 45/Ubuntu, under the hood. Very noticable performance changes, and RAM gets released better as well. Lots of fixes.
Ubuntu has come a long way over the years. You know, DT, I was going through my geek stuff and found an OLD copy of Ubuntu 9 still in the original cardboard sleeve direct from Canonical. They used to distribute those at convenience stores in my hometown ages ago. An absolute relic.
I loved reviewing 23.04, testing Ubuntu Studio (KDE) 23.10 to review this week. Great video as always DT!
Finally a decent release of Ubuntu. Hopefully that is a good sign for the LTS version.

Hey DT, at 14:57 you referred to the icon as a "settings icon", it looks to me like a "share" icon. As if they're going to implement the option to share an app link that you can send to a friend/relative.

Definitely solid and sexy release who you should giving a try.
Really neat to see that the new Ubuntu version is supporting TPM-based disk encryption, which means that my system can be more secure. I hope that Fedora, and the other distros (Alongside installer tools like Calamares) are next in terms of adding the option for TPM encryption in the installer. That feature is pretty neat when using Bitlocker on Windows, so if you have a laptop and it gets stolen, nobody (or at least only a small subsection of people) can just nab the drive out to view the filesystem contents.
Just for that alone it's probably one of the most notable Ubuntu releases in a while. I hated my time with Ubuntu, but it's nice to see one of the gateway Linux distros add useful new things.
Snap on my machine is faster than flatpack now
We need open backend for snaps tho. Only the runtime is open source
And has support for drag and drop, something that i don't see on flatpaks for some reason
Many still say that it is slow, I suppose they have not used them, because as you say they are very fast now, I use snap and flatpak on my Ubuntu and this new release works very well
and by the way the new snaps store is very good, much better than the old one

The system update you refer in your video is not a bug fix. The ubuntu 23.10 download was suspended for now as Canonical found out a hate speech inside a translation, so they are now correcting it.

as ive noticed recently on my old laptop, snaps have gotten wayyyyy faster,(still dont prefer them though) but this could be a great sign for the LTS, 24.04 will be epic

Forgot to mention that after watching your LMDE review I decided to go back to Mint from openSUSE. I really enjoyed Tumbleweed but, I always love Mint and wanted to live in the modern Debian Edition for awhile.
I'm used it, and I'm enjoying it. I'm using Flatpak, Snapd, and Pacstall on it. But, I keep snapd as alternative than Flatpak

i tried to install new ubuntu and it's so buggy.
i faced to the failed page after installation and it showed me "something went wrong"
i tried to install for multiple times and it happened every time.

Maybe you know -- in some of the distros LibreOffice is defaulted with a black background on the Ribbon tool bar. Also, I need to go to tools and options and toggle and apply from one view to another so that I can see the icons on the black background ribbon, properly. However, every restart of the LibreOffice doesn't keep the applied view I had chosen, which is usually Galaxy. What is the way to just get a normal LibreOffice with ribbons that looks like MSOffice? Possible there is a video for this but I am not certain how to call it up. Thanks much.
I spent some time last night figuring out how to enable guest addition drivers for Virtual Box. I was having issues with kernel headers and something about an incompatible gcc-13 after installing them through apt. I managed to solve it by installing following linux header: linux-headers-$(uname -r). Every other option was not working for me.

Does it let you move the d**ned clock out of the middle of the header bar where it's ever-so-barely obscured by the physical webcam that my employer requires me to have? All I want is a checkbox to let me move it to the top right without having to install additional software.
Gnome extensions, try just perfection. In the customize tab you can choose clock position. There are tons of extensions that can do this but this one is very popular and well maintained afaik
Strangely, I upgraded my Ubuntu to 23.10… and I do not have the new Ubuntu Software Center.

okay I've looked up and down for a flavor of Linux and thanks to your video about the Distrowatch and now I'm not even sure which Linux to lock down to. Did you dropped Arch Linux (3 yrs old) and now I see you're wearing a Ubuntu shirt so I'm wondering are you converted to Ubuntu now? I subscribed and came across this vid. hmmm now I did have Ubuntu Studio because I'm a DJ and been wanting to steer away from Windows for a long time, just because I'm tired of having to run into issue with drivers stop working all of sudden when it was working and then out of the blue mood it's outdated and there's no updated drivers. I'm sure many people have ran into this with Windows OS.
Tank you for showing new versions og Ubuntu, but I prefre you not using dark team when showing. Dark teame showes very bad light and it is difficult for us to see.

How are gnome extensions working for 23.10??? Usually odd year dot 10 releases tend to be the most unstable and beta like.....
Gnome 45 broke all extensions deliberately. No extension for 44 and earlier will work. Extensions breaking is always Gnomes fault not Ubuntu and most gnome development still comes from Red Hat
@@Assenayo Ubuntu can always decide to hold back Gnome 45 until those extensions are ready. But as I have mentioned, Odd year dot 10 releases always are alphas where ubuntu is expermenting. Those extensions will work when Ubuntu 24.04 comes back. Cheers.

OMG too much fluff you forget the point that SNAP packages are inherently 5x slower then the same apps on any other non snap Linux distro period. just test and compare them for yourself. they keep trying to hide this fact. its like windows bloatware added to every app you install with snap not to mention they are still collecting selling your data..

I have more problems with flatpak than with snap, but I use both because some apps like bottles and protoup-qt are only like flatpak

I don't use Ubuntu, but KDE Neon and the only snap it has is Firefox, but I always purge it and replace it with the tarball=always the latest version. Same for Thunderbird.

22.10 LTS does not boot in try or install mode, from uefi usb stick, only in safe graphics, does not like rtx 3080 and my system at all
also why would 23.10 destroy the live update partition with the software update tools, now the usb stick cant boot anymore

omg the boot loader of ubuntu 23.10.1 is super slow in 4K. its like 1fps and takes like 2-3 seconds to draw the boot menu. and 1 second to change the selection with keyboard. not like this grub.
also snap appstore has open applications and you cant update anything, nice work snap.
firefox does not open in the display it was closed on (secondary), but forces itself to open on the first display.

Yes. I'd stick with Linux Mint. Much better.
For me there was always a way to avoid snap on ubuntu but its still pushed on you and you still need to do some tweaks to keep firefox for exemple as deb package instead of snap.
*No they don't* - at 16:00 DT shows there is a choice between Snaps and Debs ,where the package provider has given you a choice of snap or deb .
@@PaulG.x the final straw that served to make me search for another distro after starting on Ubuntu was when i uninstalled the snap version of firefox because i wanted to try the deb version, and it indeed appeared as though i would be able to install a deb version of firefox via apt, however upon doing so i learned that rather than actually install a firefox deb package, Ubuntu had made apt slyly redirect my request to install a firefox deb over to actually just reinstall the same snap version again that i had just removed, and upon doing that the browser broke inexplicably in such a way that it wasn't even usable. so i got pissed off and just went searching for another distro immediately. i had been wanting to do so anyway, but this was the last straw that inspired me to do so

Newcomers looking for an alternative to Windows may not. Besides, Ubuntu 23.04 has the Subiquity installer and 23.10 offers new options. If you know how to install it, skip that bit (like a reasonable person) and move on to the bit you want to see.

The hell is wrong with you ? Firefox is an excellent browser (still). And it's the most standard compliant browser.
And while I'm certainly not a fan of current day Mozilla, and their focus on SJW and less on things like ... proper financing, I still think that "dumpster fire" is a bit of an exaggeration. Checking the landscape, it can be (MUCH) worse...

@@docdisco42 depends on what you're after. If it has to be open source, Chromium is objectively better by most metrics. I get Google is big and evil, but still. Brave is good too.

Checked out. UI is still ugly and inconsistent. Still feels like its stuck in 2015. Fonts dont render properly. As many important softwares dont support linux, and there are no drivers for cutting edge hardware, I don't understand whats the point in releasing new updates and distros. Linux developers should do something else that pays them well and gets them out of their moms basement. Desktop Linux is never going to be anything more than a hobby.

Creators put in a lot of effort into their work and that should always be respected, especially because it's invariably available for free.
One of the rudest things someone can do, in my opinion, is as soon as a creator posts a new video to add a comment like "Can you do a video about....?" No acknowledgement of the current video, no "thank you" for it...
It's remarkable at the number of people that completely lack self-awareness to the point where they have no idea how they look, as spoiled brats, to everyone else.
I fear they were probably brought up by bad parents that never said the word "no" to them enough.
The new flutter based app store is as bad as gnome software center, slow and buggy as hell, commandline still faster. I'd be happy to see a decent software center finally, would be really useful.

Mint's is somewhat bareable, but it has long way to go before it makes me give up using the terminal.
I'm a little disappointed with it, too, honestly. It is faster than the Gnome Software app, but it shows less information. Most of all, though, I'm disappointed that it doesn't allow us to add flatpak/flathub as a package source. I tend to use the terminal for the speed anyway, but I think it's important to provide these GUI options to newcomers coming from Windows.
I've never had issues with KDE Discover on Kubuntu or the Mint software Manager.... I don't use Gnome
