  • No surprise that JD Payne and Patrick McKay continue to brew the destructive formula that created Season 1 of The Rings of Power -- a little bit of Tolkien, a lot of their own ideas, and the nonstop lie that they actually reading Tolkien for inspiration.

    I think when they said "back to the books" they meant just borrow a few more familiar faces and names. That's all it is really. They can't make their own original compelling fantasy series so they just use characters and place names from LOTR to thell the fantasy story they always wanted and hope ppl will actually watch from name recognition and nostalgia

    Today we are dealing with companies that are past the growth phase and are practically no longer dependent on being accepted by customers. What we are seeing now are companies taking money from other sources (DEI, government, other interest groups) and essentially using their influence to carry out propaganda. Disney is a prime example of this and makes it very clear. The value of these companies no longer lies in offering popular and good products, but in using the reach and influence they previously achieved to spread certain political messages or to re-educate and manipulate customers. We created these monsters that have now turned against us.

    Thank you for enduring the truama of watching season 2 so we don't have to. I see the same problems with RoP as we're seeing with recent Star Wars shows. They have the hubris to think they can do better than the originators and tell 'their story' and add post-modern sensibilities. Star Wars is about good and evil, not moral grey areas. LoTR is about good and evil, not making good characters bad and making bad characters good. There are other shows with moral relativism that are great (Batman Dark Knight stuff), but that is not these worlds. Just sad watching these great franchises be driven into the ground by people who don't understand them and view everything through the 'me' lense.

    It’s baffling how shocked you guys seem to still be on the concept of an adaptation. Yes this is their story. Yes, they’ve made that very clear. Yes, they are pulling from Tolins Work. No they are not suggesting that they are better storytellers. Peter Jackson had no interest in placing his ideas in the story because it had already been written from start to finish master fully his challenge was just getting that story to a screen

    • @jachyra9
      @jachyra9 Месяц назад

      "Peter Jackson had no interest in placing his ideas in the story because it had already been written from start to finish master fully his challenge was just getting that story to a screen."
      No. Jackson not only didn't understand The Lord of the Rings, he made no effort to, which means he believed he understood it. Additionally, Jackson filled the screen with his own ideas about the story, changing characterizations, themes and subtext. The only thing he got right was the names of the characters and places. Claiming "adaptation" isn't a license to do whatever you want with someone else's hard work. The first step is realizing you are a caretaker of that work. It is not your plaything. Jackson doesn't understand Tolkien's work, so naturally he doesn't respect and appreciate it. And because he didn't do that work himself, he doesn't feel responsible for how he conveys it through a different medium.
