Forgot to talk about the eagles on the Meneltarma! They lived there, but they didn't interact with any of the characters we see in The Rings of Power (in fact, they would have abandoned Númenor at this point). And, it looks like they didn't try to get closer to Tolkien's writings by even the smallest margin. They wrote themselves into a corner in Season 1, and now they're backing themselves into it even more.
They didn't write themselves into a corner. They looked at every iconic element of PJ's films and said "We want to write the origin for that!" Lack of Silmarillion rights is just an excuse, not an explanation. With everything they *did* have the rights to use that got chucked immediately out the window in favor of making their own thing, I see precious little evidence that they would have honored the source material, even if they had the rights. That isn't writing yourself into a corner, that's jumping out of a perfectly good plane, landing on the ground, and then choking and wheezing out to the stewardess, "I think I'd like that parachute now. Just set the pack over here, next to my hand, where people can see it and might believe I actually tried to use it." "Writing themselves into a corner" assumes that they wanted to work their way back around to the lore as Tolkien wrote it. If they had ever the slightest intention of doing that, they would never have made up so many contradictory and asinine origin stories.
I was struck by that too. Was Sauron a trend setter for the elves? A fashionista? Are they going full Hugo Boss, giving the evil people the coolest look? Are the elves in Jackson's LOTR trilogy simply cosplaying?
Because the people running the show don't care about the intellectual property and want the "elves" to reflect the modern audience. Pandering. The agenda always takes precedent over everything else.

But the West burned red behind them, and they glowed beneath, as though they were lit with a flame of great anger, so that all Númenor was illumined as with a smouldering fire.... The Silmarillion, Akallabêth And of course the fact that these Great Eagles are now 'approving' basically of Ar-Pharazon...the greatest tyrant of Numenor by gracing him with their presence...it shows how much of a joke this tv show is!! @@Marcelocostache For some time Tolkien considered the Eagles as bird-shaped Maiar; however, he realised that the statement about Gwaihir and Landroval's descent from Thorondor had already appeared in print in The Lord of the Rings, while he had long before rejected the notion of their being "Children" of the Valar and Maiar
did you have that same comment when in the RotK, the eagles ferried Frodo, Sam and Gandalf to Rivendell? or in, the Hobbit where they carried, the company of Thorin Oakenshield out of the fiery forest, or in the battle of the 5 armies, when the eagles carried Beon and Radagast, the brown, to help fight. it would seem that the eagles were used in this manor, more often than you might want to exist or that it just doesn't seem to fit the narrative of what you thought it should be- well if that is the case- write your own story and let other critique it and see if you like what's being said about your interpretation of the Tolkien's work or just watch the show and be glad we're back in Middle Earth
22:05 Based on the surrounding of that tower, my first guess it is Orthanc. It would make zero sense at all for Orthanc to be created this way, so it's something this show could absolutely do.
I can't believe there are channels (and supposed Tolkien's fans) that actually see this piece of crap as something to look foward to. WE know what Tolkien would say...and anyone who is blessed by some kind of critical thinking cannot pretend this is a good rendition. I'm afraid a see a lot of youngsters unable to understand the depth of Tolkien's work.

@@iamtorrego Why bring PJ movies into the fray if no one mentioned them? Too scared of comparisons? Many Tolkien fans didn't like the movies either. Any of them, or the cartoons that came in the 70's and 80's, or the radio dramas, or any artistic depiction in drawings or videogames, or any media that is not the written book, but at least those works held some respect towards what Tolkien wrote, something this nonsensical slop cannot say.

Watched episode one. That’s it. I gave it a shot and as I watched “Galadriel” one a boat sailing to the Undying Land, I told myself if she jumps off the boat for her revenge boner, I’m done. That’s been her one dimension the whole time and seeing her brother’s dagger be taken from her I just knew. They’d have to contrive the entire story from that one stupid point then on. And they did and it never stopped.

No intention of watching any of season 2, but I'll certainly enjoy folks like you tearing it to shreds. My sympathies, though, for having to watch it instead.
I stopped watching episode one after 5 minutes, I was fuming and walked out the room. My son made me come back and watch the rest of that episode to "at least give it a chance". Funnily enough he never watched any more either!

The description alone that is quoted at 3:01 is extremely and laughably Not Tolkein. The entire concept of a vulnerable set of people relies on modern-day social-worker speak, not anything that would have applied to a feudal/farming system where even royalty like King Theoden could be forcibly corrupted. If Sauron is pure evil, EVERYONE is vulnerable. That’s the point.
Nothing can be done to save this Rings of Prime fan fiction. It has been FUBAR since the beginning. Thanks for your continued championing of JRRTolkien’s legacy. Btw the Eagles of Manwe would circle the Meneltarma during the times that the King or Queen of Numenor would ascend to the summit to offer praise to Eru while the populous followed in silence.
@@TheOneRingcom the only interaction were the clouds shaped as of giant eagles with outspread pinions coming from the uttermost west as a warning to Númenor during Sauron’s reign there prior to the armada’s departure.
@@TheOneRingcom It is impossible to know for sure whether or not the Great Eagles communicated directly with the Numenorians, but if it happened it would have been them communicating with the Faithful and warning them of the evil that was spreading through the country. Other than warnings, I can think of no other reason for the Eagles to communicate with Men. Certainly nothing is recorded in any of the Annuls.
They made a HUGE mistake taking on the main plot line leading to events in Lord of the Rings. And it's hard to write immortal beings as your main characters. Especially if you're a not-that-bright "writer" who hates the Ethos of Tolkien's works. Of all the things in the Appendix they could have gone with! They should have covered Aragorn''s time leading the army and navy of Gondor during Denethor's youth. Fighting the Corsairs of Umbar! Everyone loves pirates. How do you #%^#% that up? PS - it was awesome when Galadriel yelled "NOW THIS IS PODRACING!!!" and then tried spinning.
The ONLY joy I found in this deplorable series was the comment sections. What a waste of money. Amazon cant even give thier Warehouse workers a decent raise but tries to salvage this disaster series for 5 year olds.
I would think that losing over 60% of their audience from episode 1 to the finale would be motivation for most companies to course correct. Amazon clearly does not care.

First, I love the idea of a telling of the creation of the Rings and the One Ring. Lord of the Rings begs us to hear this tale. So the setup is awesome. All the problems start right after that. The made so many mistakes, story protagonists, world building, casting, … . For me the first problem was Galadriel as the main protagonist, she is reset to basically a male masculine character, even though she was a massive magical feminine beautiful character in Lord of the Rings.
1. Why is Sauron the only character who looks like an actual Elf? At least the hair looks like an Elf and not that dumb “Elvish Presley” or Tight Fade, hair style the other Elves have. 2. There’s another actor they hired named Gavi Singh Chera, that is supposed to be playing an “original” version of Sauron, they could have a 3rd actor playing his Annatar form, which would make it more believable he’s not recognized, so it may not be Chuck Vickers alone playing Sauron/Annatar/Halbrand/Etc. 3. They only have 5 seasons, they don’t have time to show everything! That’s sarcasm, btw.
Except his face still looks all washed up and aged. Which works for Hugo Weaving, because that man ooses charisma, but this guy can't make the same claim.
They just don't have the talent to do this. They don't have the writers, the advisors, the creativity or the vision. An amateur theatre group larping at Tolkien. Taking on that length of the timeline was idiocy from the start. Even the most appropriate team imaginable can't pull that off and they wouldn't even try to begin with.

A pair of Eagles live in the Kings house until the Numenorians turn against the Valar. From The Tolkien Gateway. "In the Second Age, a pair of Eagles had an eyrie in the King's House in Armenelos, the capital of Númenor, until the reign of Tar-Ancalimon, when the Kings of Númenor became hostile to the Valar. The Númenóreans believed that three eagles, the Witnesses of Manwë, were sent by Manwë to guard the summit of Meneltarma; these appeared whenever one approached the hallow and stayed in the sky during the Three Prayers. Many eagles lived upon the hills around Sorontil in the north of the island."

16:03 - Tolkien did write about the eagles and Númenor; three eagles guarded Meneltarma. The Númenóreans called them "the Witnesses of Manwë". The King's House in Armenelos was always inhabited by a pair of eagles until Tar-Ancalimon. Lots of eagles lived around the northern area of Sorontil...
I said it when season 1 came out, but the problem with this show isn't that its just a bad show, its a bad concept, which makes it a bad show. The reason being that if you are going to make a show based a fiction book it really helps if you actually have the rights to that book. The fact that they are even trying to make a show based on part of the Silmarillion while not having the rights to it is stupid. They have to actively not adapt it and you can see in the show where they are side stepping the plot in order to not fall foul of the Tolkien estate. Getting permission on a case by case basis is obviously not working.
I’d highlight that the Silmarillion isn’t really suited for adaptation, at least as a concept. The overall book is too broad, reading more like a history book than a novel. What you can do is take some of the more focused individual stories such as Beren and Luthien, Children of Hurin and the fall of Numenor and adapt them individually. Rings of Power doesn’t have any character or event to build itself around, it just wants to tell the story of the Second Age, which is why it’s so directionless.
@@waylander9265 I have no problem with a show or movie that would try to do that, not every show has to have traditional structure. The problem is they cant even follow the story. We dont have a narrative text for most historic events, but they make reasonably accurate shows based on historical events. Its hard to do that when you have no narrative to follow, and aren't even allowed to follow the basic story. TROP is having to make up a story, when one already exists. It wont be as good, and it will always upset the fans. At least the jackson movies followed the stories quite closely and changes were understandable given the medium.
It's a bad situation definitely, but they're also not following the events they have the rights to, so the problem isn't lack of material. They just don't know how to make a story into a plot, so instead they've made up their own, which they're also not good at.
Here's my wishlist for Peter Jackson and his future plans for the LOTR movies: 1. Make a live action movie about the battles that took place in Mirkwood and Dale during the war of the rings. It would be great to see Thranduil lead his elves into battle and Galadriel with her husband destroy Dol Guldur with their magic. 2. Make a movie about the blue wizards 3. Probably finally see Tom Bombadil in live action with his own short film or whatever
One of the most important aspects of storytelling is consequences and tension. There was none built in the first season. Nobody was hurt that impacts the story in a meaningful way, no questions were left and no risks were taken. Guyladrial survived a volcano, a sea monster, and entire ocean, and I’m supposed to be concerned of the story next season or the characters? Sauron didn’t lose anything because he was just out galavanting around. He had no plans for anything and things just kind of happened. What ever were his goals? What was anyone’s motivations? The only one with solid motivations was Guyladrial on a revenge quest that she didn’t even complete after stirring up crap in three different regions of the world.
Reporters: "Mr. Trump! Mr. Trump!!" Trump Turns: "Yes?" Reporters: " Did you see the trailer to Rings of Power???" Trump: "Sad." Reporters: "You think diversity in LoTRs is 'sad'?" Trump: "I think you letting my senile opponent, Joe Biden, who can barely string two sentences together, write two whole seasons of a beloved franchise is sad."
Do you remember that scene when Joffrey Lannister destroys the books that Tyrion gave him, with the sword that Tywin gave him in season 4 of Game of Thrones? Yep, that's exactly what Amazon is doing. Poor dialogue in a trailer that should capture attention, and I repeat, many say it looks "spectacular", but it costs more than 50 million dollars per episode, the visual effects must be AT LEAST attractive, and yet it has horrible CGI with Drugged wargs who attack Gandalf Meteorite... At least Annatar could have been given a better wig, glasses, a fake nose and mustache to make him more "false."
The man who talked about the jobs said "they are immortal" or something like that, but he had no interaction with Galadriel. He interacted only with Halbrand who at that point looked like a human, not like an immortal creature or elf.
I bet they will reveal that Annatar has been hanging out in Eregion for the whole time. Really excited to see how they explain that he can be Halbrad at same time: can he teleport or can he bud off clones of himself?
Please someone explain why Celebrimbor is played by this actor? WHYYYY? Why him? Lets be honest he’s too old for this role, what did he do during the auditions and why did he even audition for the role of the immortal elf blacksmith, no doubt strong and looking like a man in his prime?

I have seen the few supporters of this show claim that Annatar needs to have the same face as Halbrand because otherwise the audience wouldn't be able to tell who he is. In other words, they apparently think the fans of this show are such utter simpletons, that they don't understand the concept of a shape changer and will be confused if Sauron's new form doesn't have the same face as his previous form. So to make it more understandable for these cabbages, they will have him have the same face and have all elves just be too dull to recognize him.
The insta-creation of everything is another blight the modern CGI has inflicted upon us and the modern film storytelling, because without cgi, they would have to find a longer sequence of scenes to produce the same result , which would have been more pleasing optically and more engaging narratively. CGI is a tool which should be used wisely and in moderation, instead nowadays you have more of that, that adctual locations, actors and sets smh
I think they will try to make it look like Annatar was in Eregion during/before the events of Rop s1. That's why Celebrimbor needed that huge fancy forge to be built and maybe the rings for dwarves and men were already made. I can be mistaken, but i think i remember Celebrimbor said something about Halbrant looking familiar when they met in s1.
Great vid guys. don't forget they declared the eagles for the elves in pretty much scene one of the first series, when they did the war summary prologue. I seem to remember eagles killing dragons or some kind of flying beasts, but definitely eagles on the side of the elves.
I watched the first two episodes of season 1 and quit. It was stupid. I can't believe this is the most expensive show ever made. Where did the money REALLY go?
Sadly, I have talked to people who actually liked the rings of power. They were all people who have never read anything of Tolkien’s (probably never read any book). The people who make this crap do not care about Tolkien fans or anyone who actually reads. They are after the dumbed down generation who have never had a reading list. At least not a reading list that contained any of the traditional books that educated people of western civilization used to read. Today’s reading lists are full of crap. They are after people who attended dumbed down public schools and never made an effort to do anything more. They are after people much younger who have no clue about what the world used to be like.
A pair of eagles resided in Numenor. If you read the book Fall of Numenor they explain in the notes, that a pair of eagles lived near Meneltarma, the sacred hill. When Ar Pharazôn left to wage war on the Valar, the eagles, which had resided there since Elros was King left the island. It's not stated that they were recalled by Manwë, bit inferred that fhey somehow knew that Numenor was doomed because of Pharazôn attacking Valinor. It was at that point that the Valar appealed to Eru to help them. He sent the giant wave, removed Valinor from fhe Circle of the Earth and the Numenorean army and Pharazôn were buried in a deep ravine just outside Tirion Upon Tûna until the End of Days. Mostly likely until the Dagor Dagorath.
15:50 the frame is set as to give a short illusion of Ar-Pharazôn himself wearing the eagle wings, in a way borrowing eagle's power for a while. It would suggest the scene is meant to show eagle's support of AP, his plans or actions. Or maybe rather that the crowd percieves him as having this support. He unsheaths the sword before he becomes aware of the eagle, so the whole clip looks more like AP already decided to go to war not that he's only about to learn of it. Funnily enough I can't think right now of any good show utilising the wing trick, for sure that's what live action mulan and the got season 8 finale did.
Just remember, to Payne and MacKay just because Tolkien never said specifically that events never happened, then that means they could have, no matter how much has to be bent and broken to allow it.
Why do you consider that tower was made *in an instant*? You don't see the beginning frame pre-explosion. Current running theory is this is where Sauron died by the hands of Adar, and an explosion was the result, ala PJ's take on Sauron dispersing into the Ether.
Hey folks and its great to see your videos again. I agree with Michael though about the eagles. I also think that so long as you respect and acknowledge the paradigm then its ok to flesh out blank areas of the sand box. Eagles are massive, intelligent and quasi divine and just because Tolkein didnt actively focus the lens on an event; doesnt mean its implausible for one to fly (or roost) in Numenor - maybe it got curious and followed the silmaril chariot one day 😊. Just to be clear though i dont think RoP is doing that.
What do you mean? The nation gathered on and around Meneltarma three times a year for prayers to Eru and feasting. The Eagles would have been flying in circles above them during the ceremonies and feasts. So of course, all Numenorians knew about the Eagles of Manwë.
Somehow Harfoots haven't gone extinct yet. 1:20 Wow who is this new guy? He looks so tranquil and zen like a normal elf. 15:35 The eagle would just be fine with these already corrupt people. So many of them? Not like meet 1 dude out on a hill? I dunno the lore is so thick.
By the time A-Pharazon became Numenorean king, the island no longer had eagles due to the declining relations of the Numenoreans towards the Valar and due to their jealousy towards elves and their immortality.
Eagles did go to Numenor while Ar Pharazon was preparing to attack the Valar and while Sauron was in control. The eagles were sent by Manwe and would attack using lightning bolts. This Is in the Silmarilion
The Eagles were going to Numenor and they were staying at the Holy Mountain. They stopped going there once the Numenorians turned their back to the Valar ( Black Numenorians) and joined the cult of Melkor

Are they not Maiar spirits ?

Any of them, or the cartoons that came in the 70's and 80's, or the radio dramas, or any artistic depiction in drawings or videogames, or any media that is not the written book, but at least those works held some respect towards what Tolkien wrote, something this nonsensical slop cannot say.

And they just made her so unlikeable. You've gone far astray when the ultimate evil Sauron is more likeable than Galadriel.
They wrecked Tolkien s lore

They lived in Numenor, but nowhere is there any mention that the eagles worked part-time as taxi drivers
u make our point, the eagles wasnt there for drive ar pharazon around...u just said it "until the reign of Tar-Ancalimon"

A Sauron-Galadriel romantic arc is just about the dumbest thing ever conceived.
Yet Sauron and Guyladriel are true soulmates.
I believe they only have the rights to some of the appendices, and nothing for the Silmarillion.
Here's my wishlist for Peter Jackson and his future plans for the LOTR movies:
1. Make a live action movie about the battles that took place in Mirkwood and Dale during the war of the rings. It would be great to see Thranduil lead his elves into battle and Galadriel with her husband destroy Dol Guldur with their magic.
2. Make a movie about the blue wizards
3. Probably finally see Tom Bombadil in live action with his own short film or whatever
There're not going to do that, that'd take common sense.
Creatively bankrupt.
Or the wars of the witch king against the kingdom of Arnor

Didn't the Numinorians believe that there were eagles on Meneltarma?
Shhh…let them think they know what they are talking about.
What do you mean? The nation gathered on and around Meneltarma three times a year for prayers to Eru and feasting. The Eagles would have been flying in circles above them during the ceremonies and feasts. So of course, all Numenorians knew about the Eagles of Manwë.
They are still trying to make it their own...not gonna happen.

By the time A-Pharazon became Numenorean king, the island no longer had eagles due to the declining relations of the Numenoreans towards the Valar and due to their jealousy towards elves and their immortality.
In addition to Meneltarma, the eagles lived in Sorontil in the north of the island.
Amazing! Love the art. That's exactly why I think an animated adaptation would be great.
