Your best putting the button straps lower and swapping them around the tree twice stops the hammock rolling about. I’ve got the same hammock took awhile to get used to it 👍🏻
I always have extra ropes and carabiners. I took this out for the first time a few weeks ago with my dad and brother. I tied additional ropes on the left and right side of the hammock so it wouldn't rock. Worked, very, very well. Slept better too.
Nothing worse than having a bit missing, or forgetting your cup or fork or something 😂... But your absolutely right always check and just learn how to put a new tent or hammock first
If you look at the pics on their website or any of the review videos you will notice the straps that are used for the purpose of stabilising the base are meant to be angled downward at a 45 degree angle. I also think you set it up slightly higher off the ground than it needs to be. Like many others, had visions of you tipping out.
Yes, this was my thought. I would also run a ridgeline tied to the top of the hoops . A bigger separate fly would be better for me, but the Nightcat tarp might be better in cold weather.
Hey mate, totally unrelated to the video but just wanted to say that watching your videos inspired me to start my own channel making outdoorsy videos. I had an old gaming channel with 37k subs that was super focused on extreme fast paced editing for retention, and found myself getting really hyperfixated on editing for what I thought people wanted to see rather than what I actually wanted to create. But the slow (in a good way!), chilled out vibe of your videos was an absolute breath of fresh air and seeing that you were able to build an audience out of it was incredible. I mean, duh, I love your videos and style. So now I've started afresh with slower paced chilled out outdoors focused vids and it's been extremely liberating breaking away from the "to the beat" retention style of editing I used to do. Thank you for everything you do!!
mate!! fair play to you for starting a fresh channel when you had a hige audience!! I started a channel at the start of this year and understand how difficult it is to grow an audience. . i'm getting there slowly. you still kept the big channel?
Please don't take this the wrong way, but the set up of this hammock left a little to be desired for a solid comfortable, flat lay......... Firstly, did you put in the spreader bars underneath? Or did I miss that? Secondly, the daisy chain.....as you did, wrap it about head height, but try and wrap around the tree twice, so it gets a solid self tightening 360 deg grip? When done, shorten up the chain as much as possible. The lower straps should go as LOW as posiible, so there is as much of an angle between upper and lower straps as possible. Also, again wrap around the tree twice if possible, this will help stabilize the hammock when tensioned. Tighten up evenly as much as you can. The whole platform will be much more stable in all directions.....? Hope this helps and look forward to seeing how you get on with it? (as a fan!) And yes, the tie backs are rubbish.....I moved mine inwards.....and the double entrance would be a great idea!
It certainly has a better logo than the original, not a bad bit of kit. The storage underneath is a good idea. Look forward to your camping trip to see how you do! Stay safe Dan atvb 👍🦊
I agree ,I think using a regular tarp over the setup would be much better. Pretty neat hammock all in all . Also, I agree that it would be nice to have that extra storage in the interior of shelter , but the secondary hammock underneath to put your gear is at least better than just having in laying on the ground .
Too much of a faff for me, especially if it was heavy wind, and rain! Give it a miss me thinks. That is why I like these videos, thanks Dan for sharing, you helped me decide!
One of things I hate about hammocks is dealing with "the tarp", specially guying it out to the ground. I could see the benefit of this not having to put any pegs into the ground... specially as I found recently if the place is full of brambles and everything gets snagged. Is the assumption here that you'd not use an under quilt since a pad would fit/sit better? It almost seems that gear hammock could be slightly insulated and pull up closer to the base (around the edges) to provide an air pocket/wind shield. Could probably be modified in with a bit of elastic cord along the edges.
Nice camo pattern on it, I like the idea that it could be used as a bivvi tent also as I've never used a hammock so just incase I couldn't get away with it that way I would have the option of a the tent style instead lol be interesting to see it set up that way also.. looking forward to watching ya camping vid when using it ... 👍
It is. This hammock, with the Nightcat Underquilt, Cabelas Magnum 44 sleeping bag, and a 3/4" thick "yoga mat on steriods" blue foam pad for a sleeping base, and a reflective tarp over top, are very comfortable in real -15c. I have a thicker "self inflating" foam type mattress, and a 2nd magnum 44 sleeping bag to one-in-the-other the first bag (with a mylar sheet between the bags). I want to try this winter for -30, if we get that cold. Colder the temp drops, I'll be out in it, just because I can. Got a few wool blankets too if needed. Stay safe out there folks!
Thanks Dan for the review. Never tried a hammock for camping, but heard that unique slipping sound when you 1st lay in it…😂..I waiting for the thud as you are built like me…dainty…😂😂😂! Have a great day!
Yh I've been thinking about getting one of those for the summer I prefer to be a bit more stealth but I suppose you can lay camo netting over the tarp.
Hello Dan , I have never been able to sleep in a Hammock , and I have tried , A layflat version would have been a great idea years ago , But they are all so fiddily to set up for me , I will stay on the Ground myself . 🙂🤔👍
I bought the normal ones for my lads after seeing your video a while back and then invested in a layflat for myself and love it Remember though Dan the lower bands you have to wrap around the tree at least once so they clamp fast when you tighten them otherwise theyll still swing
do you think these flat lay hammocks are any good though? I prefer a traditional hammock. . albeit i've not tried one of these. . fell free to check my channel out for more traditional hammock lays :)
@@RobOutdoor degenerative arthritis AND bone spurs on my lower spine won't allow a traditional lay hammock for me, and when I was able to afford a good one we went with Night Cat because of it's high weight limit and lower price. Incorrect assembly of the lower straps, these should be wrapped once around the tree and then pulled tight, this gives more stability. You only put them around the tree without wrapping them around And the lower straps must be slightly beveled further down. I have seen so many YT tests and all of them have made many mistakes, and some right. Best Regards Mike from Germany
Nice video, pretty area. I also have to lay flat. I have a haven lay flat hammock, works well. This one of yours seems to be a lot of work to set up! You did a bang up job tho. Enjoy your camping trip.
Great video Dan. I don’t like the trap set up !! I think the hole point of a hammock is so you can look out at everything. Plus like you said it should have doors both sides. Think I’ll stick with my DD stuff 😂🤣😂I’ve just bought there travel hammock which you can use as a bivvy I’m going out tomorrow night to test it.
Looks like a lot of setup tine needed for hammock camping whether you have this flat version or even a regular banana version. I think hammock camping is only really good for uneven terrain because generally you need to carry more kit than just a tent setup.
I assure you, once you get the tent set up more than once/twice... it actually sets up pretty quick. I can be "ready to sleep" in 10-20minutes, Including stringing up an extra camo/reflective tarp over the top of it all.
@@bmw328igearhead Personal preference I guess, but my Canyon 1 tent pops up in under 30 seconds and is ready to sleep in under 2 minutes once you steak it down or my Lanshan 1 tents is ready in 5.

Would crossing the bottom 2 tree huggers over help to reduce movement (after they are around the tree, once or twice) ie L-R & R-L? If the fixings would allow that?
I found on mine that it made it slightly more unstable doing that, especially on a smaller tree , where the straps crossed make more of a pivot pont, if you get what i mean, found it works best on wider trees and go around the tree 2 times to lock the straps down so they clamp onto the tree
As said, you installed the spreader straps incorrectly. I actually modified my set up to include an extra spreader bar at edge end. You also forgot to mention that it can also be used as a tent. 😊
Seems a lot more complicated to set up and for a weight of 3.49kg I personally wouldn’t say it’s worth it. I could imagine how difficult it’d be to set this up in the wind and rain. You wouldn’t be able to dry off under anything like how you would using a tarp, it’s basically a heavy floating bivy bag and if you’re thinking just bring a tarp as well then it kind of defeats the purpose of buying this over a regular flat lay hammock. Great video though and enjoy your camp ! Also stating just this hammock alone ( 3.49kg ) is heavier than my whole hammock sleeping system (2.75kg) for hammock tarp sleeping bag and UQ
