Please could you do a quick video on how you wrap you baby in their sling as mine is now 4 months and wants to sit differently but still carries by me. Thanks and love all you content 🥰
I think the fact that your kids forget about the candy soon after is a testament to how nourishing and delicious the food you cook for your family is ❤
With kids out of sight is out of mind
I am with you on throwing out candy that has been forgotten. I also do that with toys missing parts and seriously regift toys to others when they are completely forgotten.
Yes me too
At Christmas, I had my children go through their toys. In order to get gifts, we regifted to those in need.
Candy gets stale after a while
same here
I’m convinced that you have to have more than 24 hours in your day…mercy honey I get tired just watching you this morning, lol. You are AMAZING!!!
Despite the inherent noise and chaos of a household filled with kids, your ability to consistently produce serene, cozy, and quiet videos showcasing the positive aspects of homemaking is truly commendable. Your dedication to your work, even when overtired, deserves applause.
Throw ALLLLL the candy away!😂 Great job, Mama!!! Also, great compromise letting them have some while it’s exciting, but not putting it out on the counter and encouraging it.. You’re a smart lady!
Right. Denying it completely will backfire
When I hear of all the turmoil in our country and the world, your calm, soft voice is a balm for my soul! It makes my little world feel peace for a bit!
Yes, that’s exactly how I feel.
Letting the kids have some candy, hiding it a few days and tossing it is exactly what i do! They can have it but they certainly dont need it in excess. Dont worry about the comments, its 💯👌😁🤗
I’m Italian and cooking is my life. I have to say you really know what you’re doing in the kitchen!!!
It’s actually very encouraging to see you in more casual clothes and fresh-faced! I sometimes feel like I’m not doing as great because I don’t dress “cute” every day, but it was nice to see I’m not so far from being like you 🤪☺️
I love the clips where you’re working with your kids or talking to them. I understand why you would typically cut most of them, and I thank you for the voice over, but it makes it seem more “real” with the raw scenes in there. ❤
So cute seeing even the toddler making pie 🥰
It’s wonderful to see your kids get involved in your videos, esp the culinary aspects of it.
It’s good to see boys in the kitchen helping out. Learning to bake cook all that fun stuff
Love that Roomba sneaking out of the corner😁
I celebrate Feast of Tabernacles, which starts tomorrow. I always like to make new and exciting recipes during those 8 days, and thanks to you, I went through your recipes and covered each meal! 💜
Love that!
That's amazing! I hope you had a delightful celebration!
To use more eggplant you might look for Greek Eggplant Moussaka Recipe. It has eggplant, potatoes, ground beef, along with a Bechamel Sauce. Very good and filling.
You can also stuff eggplants along with maybe fresh peppers, large tomatoes and or courgettes and bake them - see Greek yemista
Your videos are amazing! Your voice is so calming and you move around the kitchen as if you don’t have a baby strapped to your chest! You are a perfect example of someone who is passionate about what they do! ❤
That's an amazing dish. One of my very favorites!
Love moussaka!
Mousakka is the best ! I like it with ground beef but I love it with ground lamb sometimes even a mix of the two. There is a Greek chef on here named Akis P …… something…..he is amazing and I trust any recipe he gives. Very traditional.
My tzatziki is the best you’ve ever had because I follow his recipes which are traditional lol 😆
Biscuits and gravey!!! OH MY LANTA!!!!!! Sour dough plus fresh farm milk. I'm envious.
We do candy more than we should and I have gotten to where I now hide it too. Then I forget about it. Toys, I have 3 and I have a room full of toys that they don't play with. My oldest is a gamer so that's his toy. My 3 year old plays with his trainset and "buildies" which are big legos. My 1 year old plays with what the others play with haha. So I'm seriously considering doing a mass toy removal.
So great seeing the younger boys in the kitchen along with you and your daughter. Loved it!
Can i just get 1% of your ability?! lol. The things you do might seem like "nothing" to someone else but to me, they really inspire me to be a better wife and homemaker! The home and the family is our highest priority. I know that cleaning, cooking, and mothering is what God gave us time for. You go girl! 👏🤩🥹😍
Our favorite eggplant recipe is baba ghanoush. Char a whole eggplant on the grill or gas stove like you would a bell pepper, and squeeze it out of the skin after it swears and cools. Immersion blend with tahini, olive oil, fresh garlic, lemon, and whatever herbs you have on hand. So good as a dip or sandwich spread!
I just made some too😊 .
You have mentioned pumpkin pie pumpkins in your last two videos, I actually have a tip: the best pumpkins to cook with are actually the really beautiful decorative ones such a Cinderella pumpkins. They have been bred with other squash varieties and have way denser, thick skin that cooks down amazingly and is super flavorful. After they have lived on the porch awhile for decor definitely cook with them. Also, pumpkin puree from the store is mostly butternut squash, not pumpkin 🤯
great tip!
Is that so? I'm thinking I should grow butternut squash instead of pumpkin for pies. Does it mature faster, less than 90 days I hope!?
Hubbard Squash is also great for making pumpkin pies and is a common ingredient in canned pumpkin purée!
Yes! My dad always used butternut for pies, he also would molasses, which was so tasty
This brought back childhood memories of shelling peas in my grandparents home in the 1950's sitting at their big ktichen table and listening to old stories from my favorite aunt.
My mantra with throwing out non-nutritious items like candy is - “better to throw the garbage into the garbage instead of treating your body like a garbage can”
That is SOO very good! Thank you for sharing that!
You and your sister Laura are just amazing ! You should both teach homemaking classes! 💚💚
Thank you sweet beautiful lady! I absolutely love how your kiddos are involved . You’re an incredible mom and teacher! ❤I aspire to be more like you and learn how to cook from scratch. 💪🏼
p.s. eggplant is good with parmesan cheese or battered. Have a lovely day! ☀️
I'm a little late commenting, but we definitely did the same thing without kids regarding throwing away their excess candy. 100% worth it! It keeps ALL of us from over consuming it.
❤ seeing the children help out with the pie crusts!!!
The baby always with you ❤ I'm sure he loves to see & hear everything you're doing 😊
I'm having the same kind of day on our homestead! And frankly, facing down the tasks had me just the teensiest bit overwhelmed, so this video has perfect timing! I, too, have a trash can (more than one if you count my barn lol) thats "a little yucky" 🤣🤣🤣 Btw, I did the same thing with candy when my kids were younger!🙋♀️ Have a beautiful day, Lisa, and everyone ❤️ 💕
You could make ratatouille, which uses eggplant, peppers, onions, zucchini, tomatoes. It can be eaten hot over pasta or at room temperature as a side. You can make it spicy or not. Also uses olives. Fabulous with your sourdough bread.
And also great with eggs!!🎉
At Halloween/Easter/Valentine's/Christmas etc anytime where copious amounts of candy are around I let my children indulge for 3 days and on day 4 the remainder is tossed in the garbage. I never get any blowback, the children are satisfied and I feel good that I set a reasonable limit. Each family does what is best for them🌻
So nice to see you make your biscuits and sausage gravy the same as I do. I've seen some "professional" chefs who don't know diddly about making sausage gravy.
We are a family that throws out candy from parades as well, especially now that we avoid numbered dyes due to my daughter having an allergy to them. Also, I love the coziness of your home in the warm night at night! Made me feel so calm. I can't wait for your sourdough cookbook! I am definitely impatiently waiting for it. I know a lot of it is on the blog, but I love having the books displayed and laid out while I make it.
You always give such good tips on finding ways to use all food and store it properly, so that it does not get forgotten. We, too, get rid of old candy, broken things that cannot be repaired, and give away anything we simply no longer use for any purpose.
That strata looks amazing! You’re blessed to have a family that will eat a variety of things! I love watching Johanna in the kitchen. My grandson is a little older than her but he’s been cooking since he was little and is very talented in the kitchen. It’s refreshing to expose children to tasks that some people think they’re not capable of. I hope she won a ribbon for her pie! 🥇🥧
Pumpkin pie with no whipped cream is the best
My daughter throws out the candy too. I can not believe the energy you have!!! God bless you!
Late to the party, as I'm only now watching this interesting video. Wanted to say that with eggplant we always make baba ghanoush, a middle-eastern dip that everyone loves. Roast eggplant, mashed with garlic, tahini, and lemon juice, seasoned with salt and cumin. Delish!
Your your life is very much the way are grandmothers lived hard work great results healthy beautiful families living in Harmony and peace
I learned eggplant stacks in Rome and it's my favorite way to eat them. Cut them in slices bake them with salt pepper and olive oil.
Then stack in repeating order an eggplant slice , tomato/ marinara sauce, and a slice of fresh mozzarella. Then throw them in the oven again long enough to melt the cheese.
Oh yum! Thanks for sharing.
These are my favorite videos! Great ideas for using all of the produce and food in the fridge! (Also, I've never seen anybody use their vacuum in the fridge before! 😂 I LOVE your kitchen helpers~especially the tiny one. 😘
Might be too late now, but try pasta a la Norma to use up eggplant. It is so delicious.
I had seven kids all grown now, but I did the same with our candies but some I saved good chocolate I would shave it down and use in cookies instead of chocolate chips. We also made ginger bread houses for Christmas which no one ever ate I would save some candy for that but everything else would not be missed so out it went.
Super clever!! Smart ideas there!!
Becky on Acre Homestead makes baked oatmeal with 12 eggs to use up her chicken eggs. We make it yet do not have chickens so I only use 4. You could make 3 of these and use up 36 eggs. I have been making pumpkin ones lately. If you allow you kids to Trick or Treat, make a deal they can only keep the quality chocolate. If you allow 1 month worth of desert only candy for the month of Oct. You can use some of it in cookies etc.
You cook just like I do. I am a dump cook. I give you huge props for doing a cook book with actual recipes! That had to be extremely hard and time consuming to have to measure out each ingredient. Lol
Cheers! to you!🎈🥳🎉
You manage ur kitchen like a Pro! Fridge & pantry Inventory ;rotating product & cooking diversity for ur family!👏🏻
I love how your children help w/food prep; how you give dough to the toddler. Your Smile for your younger son!
Beautiful vlog!❤️🥰🫶🏻
Thank you!
Roasted eggplant in a Buddha bowl with other veggies and a homemade tahini sauce is delicious! Also eggplant lasagna and grilled Jamaican eggplant is divine.
I love that you’re encouraging your children to teach each other how to make pie! ❤ I love my Birch Mattress and have trouble getting out of bed cause it’s so comfy (and finally a mattress that doesn’t cause me back pain!) 😊
Thank you for sharing that!
Thanks to your comment, we finally ordered a Birch bed!! It'll be delivered in 5 days!! My fiance is building a bed for us!! So stinkin' excited! We went with the Luxe in King size. We've never had a bed that big. Hahahahaha!
I do not fry eggplant in eggplant parmesian. I peel it, slice it, season with salt, pepper, garlic & onion powder. Then add sauce, eggplant, sauce, cheese and repeat. Then I bake. It takes longer to bake. There is no breading, frying and it is delicious.
I am not a homesteader but I like the same game of seeing how long I can go without going to the grocery store and trying to make sure I am using things up and not wasting.
Yes, it is a fun challenge and worthwhile as you use what you have and sometimes come up with some delicious dishes that maybe you wouldn't have otherwise thought of!
I watch all the time, but rarely comment, but when you stuck that vacuume in the fridge I thought, "What is she doing" and you made me laugh so hard! That was genius!
Haha! I am not particular and do what needs to be done...glad you got a laugh out of it.
I would do the same with candy. My kids are all grown now but I remember finding Halloween candy in like July of the next year and be like yuck! I love your lists. I have made lists forever, I like to go back and see what my goals were and what I actually got done….and vacuum the fridge, check, check. I laughed out loud when I saw that. This stick vacs are so nice.
For eggplant, try this recipe. It’s delicious, Russian dish. Saute chopped onions with some oil, garlic, carrots, peppers. Then add cubed eggplant (small cubes), don’t salt or season until the end as eggplant will become spongy. Let it sauté until cooked, add seasoning little bit of pasta sauce and simmer for 5 more mins. It’s so good on a toast, delicious cold too.
😂 haha! I do that too. As soon as they are not paying attention I hide the candy and then after some time I will get rid of it.
I hide the candy and use it to decorate gingerbread houses
haaa your son beating up that dough ! lol
About the candy, you go to all the trouble of making sure they have a healthy diet. So smart to through out the forgotten candy. It will save their heath in the long run, good on you mamma!❤❤❤
So happy to see you❣️
Beautiful!!
You can use eggplant for: eggplant casserole, fried eggplant, eggplant Parmesan. Just never eat it raw, because it can cause stomach problems and some people are highly sensitive to a chemical they have in them unless cooked.
Love these recipes!
Helpful family 😄❤
Enjoyed.
Great video!!! Thank you for sharing! God Bless you and your family! 🙏
