I remember seeing an interview he did years ago where he talked about how poor they were, and one day his mother took him to buy a guitar, and he remembered it was very cold and she didn't have a coat. The guitar costs $60, quite a lot back then, especially because they didn't have much, and he described what an incredible show of faith in him is was. Thank goodness she did!
