Though i hold "Fugazi" as perhaps their greatest musical achievement, nearly every song on the debut is stellar!Can't decide between this one, "The Web" , "He Knows You Know""Script" or "Forgotten Sons" (that's nearly all of them...)...
There is something so pure and innocent about "Script For A Jester's Tear", they hadn't completely found their feet yet musically.It's a bit amateurishly played compared to later albums.The melodies and lyrics are laid so bare and maybe that's one of the reasons it is so endearing.

The fish era was probably the best ever for Marillion a great frontman and a good singer. Steve Hogarth has a better range however live he tends to let the crowd do the singing I have been lucky enough to see the band with Fish and Steve Hogarth and Fish was a far better frontman where Hogarth could not reach some of the notes he reaches on record so Fish will always be the better of the two.

Marillion without Fish... another band... lost its essence...
Saw the pseudo version of Marillion last night in Grand Rapids, Michigan. 2 hours show and nothing from any of the 1st 4 albums. What a Waste!!!
You aint seen them properly then - Like 2 bands - BOTH brilliant. Im seeing Fish this coming Monday for first time since 1983 - weird! Play "Out of this World loud and I bet you cry with emotion"
Steve Rothery is up there with Gilmour but as he has his own distinctive style, my comparison is facile.
He's the only guitarist in that band and does perfect job in rhythm playing and solos 👍👍👍
And the very next day they sacked Mick Pointer.

does not fit into any category, it creates its own category.
This band came after Genesis with PG and that says it all...they never could be as powerfull and original as the masters. They don't have that plus that makes then a genius band...even if that cut is good but lacks of drama construction like Genesis could do...
