I was at this gig, and I feature in the VHS video as I was sitting in the front row and the fan he sacrificed for Grendel was next to me. I haven't seen a live performance of that song for many many years, and that has just put the hairs up on the back of my neck. Incredible song and vocal performance. He really was one of the best live performers I've ever seen.
For me, Steve's Rothery guitar solos are so trippy, he plays with such much feel and emotion. He selects each note of the solo to make it unforgettable.
I was there, approx half a dozen rows back from the stage, and can confirm it was one hellava gig! Hard to believe It was a month before my 30th birthday when I'll be 70 on my next........
Był kiedys taki program w radiu. Nazywał sie Wieczór płytowy. Niedzielny wieczór i dwie płyty w całości. Tam właśnie po raz pierwszy usłyszałem głos Pana Tomasza Beksińskiego. W tym tygodniu obchodził by urodziny. Ten właśnie Człowiek spowodował , że poznałem zespół Marillion. Niezwykły dziennikarz , który prezentował i kochał niezwykła muzykę.
I graduated from high school in 1982. I was and still am a Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes, Prog Rock freak!!! I was completely overjoyed when this album came out! The Fish years , what can I say but thank you!? 🐉💀👽🎸🎶🎵🧠🌌🛸
I worked in chelsea a few years ago, doing shifts. I used to love putting this on my Walkman and walking down a deserted Kings Road at about six in the morning in the freezing cold. I am sure passersby must have wondered why I had such a strange expression on my face. A great song of loss, waste and a lot of other things. Still powerful and Rothers guitar work is unbelievable.
It's just incredible how Fish manages to sound so genuine both live and in studio versions of their songs. How does he do it? Most singers sound like they're an agonizing pig when they sing in live presentations, yet sound marvelous with studio arrangements and all. Fish is just different from most.
Even with sad stories and broken heart lyrics, why does music stop to sound like this? Too bad for the younger generations that will never have the pleasant feeling of listening to really GREAT songs...
less than half a million earthlings have watched this, I feel sorry for everyone else. Marillion (with Fish) made my teenage years memorable. Pity they never came down under :-(
I remember about 30 years ago bying the vinyl record of Misplaced Childhood just because I love the cover did not know anything about them, soon realize after listening that their were all genious of music, bought all of their albums not long after that. Greeting from Canada. Shalom
I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan and being a young man (22 yr old), decided to get into Vinyl records at the start of the year. Anyways, I have about 200 vinyls at this point and discovered Script for a Jester's Tears, which I think I prefer to any Pink Floyd album at this point. I am listening to it right now (Turn table connected to my expensive headset) and am getting shivers (Forgotten Sons). Anyways, I purchased Misplaced Childhood also, hoping it is as good, have not listened to it yet. Grettings from Canada!
"Awaiting her prince in his white Capri" Oh the joy of it all (For those of you who don't know a Capri is a Ford Capri - a 70's cheap but cheerful sports car). God - this all brings me back. I saw Marillion in there heyday (just like this) and they were always this good. Dammit I love the old days... Thank you for posting. Memories. Sweet Memories!
I'm 27 and live in the U.S. and been listening to all things Marillion for 10 years now. I'm absolutely obsessed with this band. When I was younger I listened to rock and metal and now I listen to almost nothing but jazz. Marillion is the only rock band I still regularly listen to.
I'm 18 and was raised listening to the more poppy songs of the 90's but even i love this song, it sends tingles down your spine every time you here it. They don't make music like this anymore :/ Wish i had been able to see them live back when Fish was the singer, would have been amazing!
always remember those hammersith odeon gigs. they were always the final gigs of their tour by which time his voice was fukced. was always the same. great gigs though. still got the stubbs. Bought a yamaha SG2000 in 1985 on the back of Steve. Still got it
I was addicted ever since I saw the cover of "Script.." back in ´82. Bought it and loved every bit of Marillion (both with Fish and Steve H) ever since. Been to 4 Marillion and 2 Fish shows in Denmark. Always great. I really do not understand why Marillion never became worldwide stars..
this has been my favorite band since i was 17....i am 40 now. they have gotten me through some bad times..never the top in the charts but to me the tops every time.
I haven't heard this song for a looooong time. I'm sitting here in my 1983 "Script Tour" t-shirt and this song has given me goosebumps. I'm going to dig my old vinyl copy of the album out now.
When I met these guys it was almost an outer body experience! Was in San Bernadino at a small movie theater that was also used for live shows. My friends and I got there about 3 hrs before the show and got to watch the sound check from the back stage door. The road manger was so cool and afterward the band had a picnic dinner out behind the theater. We waited untill they were done eating and then talked with them all and got autographs! Was such a great time!Lifetime memories!
was introduced to marillion by a new school friend in 1984. absolutely loved script for a jesters tear LP and the artwork. bought all their LP's after that until fish left. Still really enjoy their music 26 years on.
Eyup, I dont think I will ever see again a band that can perform live as well as these guys could, I went to the garden party in Milton Keyns and was blown away by the standard of their performance, fantastic.
This song take me straight back to when I was 15, am now 41. Singing this live is identical to their album, what a talent. Unfortuntately a talent not seen these days. What shame
I remember when Fish left Marillion... I was 17 and had discovered Marillion a year before. That day, the world collapsed at my feet and I thought I coulndt emerge from this catastrophic news... I never had the chance to see them in concert with Fish. Instead I saw Hogarth and stopped listening to Marillion. He was the soul of the band and they surely were lessened by his departure. A shame ! Thankfully I then discovered King Crimson, Genesis ( with P. Gabriel ), Magma and Frank Zappa...
I saw them live in Cardiff st Davids hall in 1985 on their misplaced childhood tour, fish lay on the stage through most of the concert but they were still brilliant. Myself personally I prefer script for a jesters tear and fugazi over anything else they've done. This takes me back to when I was 16/17 again. Thanks for posting it.
I rarely post any comment on vids, but I'm just amazed to see such a live performance. Few bands are able to be so professional on stage :) Marillion reminds me of when I was a kid, I used to fall asleep listening to their music...
Very Peter Gabriel with the face paint,I use to listen to Marillion when ah were 't lad! I used to think he sounded like Genesis/Peter Gabriel. But I was only a kid, great times listening to this, really reminds me of being about 6-7-8,not a care in the world, playing on my B.M.X,apple scrumping! My favourite band is The Who,but I think 'Kayleigh' has got to be my all time fave song, not just a brill tune, but the memories, always gets me inside when i hear the opening chords!
been a big fan of marillion since they 1st started out seen them live many times still get the vinyl out even now shame fish left love the guitar rifts love the lyrics.
I had this on VHS when it first came out, and you know what always bugged me about it? The way, at the start of one of the finest guitar solos ever played, the camera focuses in on Fish!
Steve Rothery is way underrated. Also one of my favourite gigs was seeing them at Milton Keynes bowl in the mid 80s: great gig, great band. I don't buy into the lead singer bit: they're both great in their own way (or was, in the case of Fish). Getting on a bit now, but I'll be forever grateful I lived at a time when music wasn't manufactured in a studio: the great bands could pull it off live without the need of a computer to make them sound good.🙏
They used to play in our local bikers pub The Starting Gate ... they played this song 3 times one night !!!! Oh back in the day :))))) I had a GIANT poster of the Jester. Wish I stilll had it now.
Funny Thing you're telling, I'm 20 years old and keeps having Fish's song running on my Ipod all day long. I guess that his music transcends ages and this is what we can call a true artist; his songs are made to last.
how sweet marillion were"are" nice to know have got CD,s to hand when fed up of all the new rubbish that's out now, love this track long live marillion.

After a few drinks, listening to this and other classic Marillion tracks brings me to tears of joy
still doing same in 2020
I don't even need the drinks for it
Совершенно верно! Bushmils today 🥃

this song is totally and utterly fantastic. most artists today could only dream of doing summat this good!
one of my favorite song
"Patience my tinsel angel
Patience my perfumed child
One day they really love you"
I never get tired of listening to this band... and this song really rocks... I wonder if the angels in the heavens have songs like this ...
"Awaiting her prince in his white Capri"
Oh the joy of it all (For those of you who don't know a Capri is a Ford Capri - a 70's cheap but cheerful sports car).

impecable performance de Steve Rothery!!!...
For me the best Marillion (Fish) song.Einfach fantastisch.
amazing times , amazing band
Najprawdziwsza muzyka Marillion. Tylko Fish i nikt inny!!! ❤
quelle prestation!!!!! Dur pur bonheur. Merci Fish.....
Rothery!!!!
Great song, great band. Seen them live 44 times since 1994. Missed them in 1987 and 1990 when they visited Norway where I live :-/
piękne, zachwycające, poruszające... uwielbiam tę piosenkę.

Einfach Superklasse .... Diese Band hat mich durch meine Jugend begleitet .... What a great time 👍 What a great Band 🎶🎵🎶
Que voz tan especial sin duda alguna el mejor exponente del neo progresivo el gran fish de marilion
this has been my favorite band since i was 17....i am 40 now. they have gotten me through some bad times..never the top in the charts but to me the tops every time.
Tenho práticamente 55 anos, Marillion foi talvez a minha banda músical ocidental preferida 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏...
I haven't heard this song for a looooong time. I'm sitting here in my 1983 "Script Tour" t-shirt and this song has given me goosebumps. I'm going to dig my old vinyl copy of the album out now.

I never get tired of listen to this song
Fish and Rothery: perfect combination.
C'est génial !! Cette chanson me fait friser les poils des bras à chaque fois que je l'écoute !!
Eyup, I dont think I will ever see again a band that can perform live as well as these guys could, I went to the garden party in Milton Keyns and was blown away by the standard of their performance, fantastic.
It's from the video / dvd called Recital of the Script. Released in 1983 !!!!
This song take me straight back to when I was 15, am now 41. Singing this live is identical to their album, what a talent. Unfortuntately a talent not seen these days. What shame
i'm not from the UK, but I must say it: our salvation lies in British music. Even now, after all these years...
uma das mais belas musicas desta fabulosa banda, sou adepto da era Fish. pena a separação perdeu-se uma grande banda!
Thanks, for the oportunity you gave me to see the greatest Marillion times, ever!!!
I was 15, am now 40. Still has the same impact on me. Frickng classic, and this was live. Excellent
From the day I saw them live at The Marquee in Soho, Marillion grew on me, I guess they appealed to my intellectual side!
I am repeating myself, this song sung live is just like the album. fab x x x x x x
What a song! Thank you Marillion&Fish!
Marillion avec Fish!MAGNIFIQUE!!! J'adore ce mec. Quel charisme.Son maquillage,ses costumes,ses gestes...
one of the best tracks on the album. never to be beaten, this album remains the best prog rock album ever!
La grandezza di una band...loro facevano venire i brividi... semplicemente fantastici...
My favorite Marillion song, along with "Script" and "Warm Wet Circles". Incredible, just incredible.
This song is played and sang live just as onthe album. Bloody marvellous, that takes talent x
A master peace 👍 😎 ✌
Beautiful boys back then. Miss these tracks, but the only constant in this world is change...
40 ans que j'écoute... Je recommence pour 40 ans👍🎆
nic dodać nic ująć... o tak właśnie ... dobry tekst i dobrze zagrane
I'll never get bored with this song!!!

I first heard this song when i was fifteen, now 40. Ahh, such memories!!!!!!!!!!
one of if not THE best band i`ve had the pleasure of seeing live

Marillion...best Progressive band of the 80's...and maybe, best British Prog Rock band ever.
This is pure art. Awesome song, thank you for posting it.
This has gotta be one of my favourite Marillion songs
I had this on VHS when it first came out, and you know what always bugged me about it? The way, at the start of one of the finest guitar solos ever played, the camera focuses in on Fish!
I am from the bands home town Aylesbury and know them all. One of my favourite bands of all time.

I'm called after this song!
Sensacional!!

I love the screamed line during the spoken segment in this version. Great song, great album.
