I got a Guide to Marillion CD for free, maybe 7 years ago, listened a little and decided “Naaah, not for me”. Then I gave them another chance, bout the Marble album and was totally blown away. I am just 71 and have stocked up on their post-Fish albums.
Hope you've managed to see them since you posted this🙂. I never got into Marillion back in the day when i was a teenager...i didn't like the stuff i heard from them in the uk charts. Then 2 years ago ( aged 55!) my boyfriend took me to one of their gigs in Manchester and i was really impressed( i still am).Thought Steve Rothery was great(Still do... even more now I've heard his own band!) We just went to the Marillion weekend at De Montford hall (April 26-28🙂🙏) It was GREAT...Loved it...really into Marillion now🙂.We drove 111 miles... not far compared to other fans there, alot of whom had flown in from all over the world! There was even a guy there from Japan and a guy from New Zealand!!People from 23 countries in total!!! Amazing, great atmosphere....so much to like 🙂🙂🙂🙏. So I truly hope you have seen them by now...if not I'm sending All Best Wishes that you get to soon...🙏🙂
I love many of their albums but I think they don't always get the dynamic nuances right in the studio. This song is a good example of how a live arrangement can transform a song to another plane.
Well I was a massive Marillion fan back in the Fish days, and was totally gutted when they went their separate ways. I wasn't overly impressed with the early Hogarth/Marillion era, and I stopped following them properly just after Brave, which was admittedly their best album with 'H' up to that point. I'd bought a couple of random CD's in the years that followed but never really gave them any serious airplay, so last year I decided to trawl RUclips for 'Estonia' and spent the rest of the day listening to some utterly mind blowing tracks. I can honestly say I was totally blown away by how brilliant they'd become! Each song I played was like finding a buried treasure. The Invisible Man, Neverland, The Other Half, When I Meet God, Ocean Cloud, Sky Above The Rain, the list just goes on and on! I've since bought every CD & DVD I can lay my hands on and I just keep discovering more hidden gems! I haven't listened to any other artist for over a year now and I even managed to get to see them Live in Manchester last year for the first time in 20 years, and the hairs were up on the back of my neck for the entire gig. Roll on the next Marillion Weekend! All that is really left to say is "Thank You Marillion!!!"
George Smith It's funny as my entry was quite different. I saw them open for Rush with Fish at the helm and thought they were god awful Genesis wanna be's. That had more to do with Fish and their early writing. Fast forward years later and my guitarist turned me back onto them. So glad he did. Everything they've done with H is utter brilliance (with the exception of the earliest albums with him). Now they are one of my favorite bands and Steve H one of my favorite performers. Glad I gave them another chance and wasn't stubborn. PS, still can't stomach Fish era stuff. Real hokey, but that's my taste.
I totally agree with you. I never listen to any of the Fish era Marillion nowadays. Marillion are in a completely different league nowadays. Here's hoping their next studio album blows my socks off!!! :-D
LOL, it most certainly did Bonnie! Every time I listen to FEAR, I hear something different that I'd not heard on the previous playback. There are moments in every track that give me intense pleasure, and really get the hairs up on the back of my neck! It is the Marillion album that just keeps on giving! :-D
Fish is great. Hogarth's great. What's the fucking problem? As Steve (choose one) said, Marillion should have changed their name when Hogarth joined. Then all this argumentative silliness could have been avoided. And I'm happy enough with Rothery and the rest of the band that I don't care who's singing. I like both of them. Switch 'em up. Have a reunion. I just don't fucking care.
Fantastic band two of the best singers in the world fish amazing Steve amazing beautiful music at first when fish left i was young couldn't beleive it but went to see both bands in liverpool royal court in 1989 vigil tour and seasons end tour both blew me away and now as I've grown older still listen to fish and marrillion people said the same about pink floyd when roger waters left but i still love Roger waters music and pink floyd people move on times change a band is like a relationship as you get older you learn to appreciate beautiful music and Marillion fish and H the band altogether have been a storybook to my life and always will be good times in life and bad times they give me joy and happiness i will be gutted when they stop playing.i want this band to live forever they are in my heart and soul because when you listen and watch them live trust me i have seen a lot of bands who play for the money but i really do beleive they carry on for the love of the fans its a family atmosphere at gigs amazing and wonderful music that takes me and others away same with fish they understand their fans biggest secret in world music but everybody knows them.I only heard Estonia with friends from the orchestra recently on youtube i cried it helped me with the passing away of my father amazing lyrics
I am a fairly new fan of Marillion but they have very quickly become my favorite band and I listen to little else these days. Their music is the kind of music I can listen to over and over and it never gets old. Truly an amazing band, each and every member has unique qualities about their talent and together they create such amazing music that is filled with so much emotion and passion unlike anything you hear any where else from any one else.
His vocals just get me every time! Just draws me in and leaves me in awe! I close my eyes and just drift away and get lost in the music....Pure class...
I do like to hear Steve Hogarth singing!!! As much as I like to hear Fish... Both of them are great. Thanks GOD for Marillion... World would be a sad place without them!!! Cheers!

They've been to the states, but not enough. They seem to avoid the SE like it's plague infested. I caught them in Charlotte in '89. I recall waiting in line to enter the now non-exisitant 4808. Someone @ front of line sang out :"So here I am once more"... everyone joined and completed the entire song. :) Didn't catch them again until DC 2004. I hope you get to enjoy them live soon. Each of them is a joy to meet. If you know me, make sure this song is played as I'm placed in the dirt. -JH
possibly my most admired rock band at this moment, I read of them since the 80s and I have listened to them since then, in Mexico it was not easy in those years to get their albums, consider them great and I am not mistaken, stop following them a little after the departure of Fish, however I must admit I am amazed with the work of H, I consider Rothery one of the best, I hope to see him next January 11 2019 here.

It's true, you're right. Cold hearted people everywhere, but I feel a strange comforting nostalgia listening to Marillion, and I'm just 21 ;) Let us just enjoy the music. There are still some good people left.
Fish came, Fish went, the band split, the band reformed, no Fish get over it, we move on with Hogarth who has brought something different but still great music to please your soul. ❤
george smith, I can understand your thought process, .com and radiation were my doubting moments but I stuck with it, after a break of twenty six years after seeing them in germany in '87 I too saw them in manchester last year and I cried tears of joy throughout, wolverhampton next year will be my first convention and wild horses will not keep me away
Pipa, Sadly, No.... Tore the meniscus cartilage in my left knee two weeks ago, playing basketball. Ended up having surgery last week. Had to cancel plans to see them at House of Blues in Los Angeles. I live in Phoenix, so that was the closest venue for me. I'm starting to feel a bit cursed.... Quite kind of you to check in though. I'm not giving up hope. I do have friends in London, so I may just have to jump the pond. Cheers!
Albums with Fish were beautiful but very "infected" by Genesis and the like, with H found their own style, they can not, but are unique and unmistakable, and live are fantastic, thanks for the post (I apologize for my English school)
Don't apologise for the lack of fluency - Your English is clear enough. You could apologise for the inaccuracy of asserting the early albums were 'infected' by Genesis. They're no more Genesis influenced than, say, this beautiful track.
@@babboon5764 It's not just Grendel. Garden Party sounds quite Genesis-like. Forgotten Sons is almost a straight-up rewrite of The Knife. And when my mother heard Lavender she thought it was a Genesis song.
Still enjoying Marillion at 83 years old !!

Easiliy amongst the most beautiful pieces of music created in the last 25 years.
Yep!
Marillion is brilliant in the studio and on the stage. This piece is definitely one of the masterpieces of the Hogarth era in my opinion.
I love many of their albums but I think they don't always get the dynamic nuances right in the studio. This song is a good example of how a live arrangement can transform a song to another plane.
@@progmeup I agree. The ending here was spot-on compared to the album.
Mesmerizing and visceral, one the best bands today, I never tired to listening to them!
Gosh damn. ROTHERY is a master. Definitely one of the more underappreciated guitarists.
God knows how many times i have seen this band live over the years. I can't recollect them all.... Well over 10 times I reckon
This is A beautiful song for today and your Birthday
Everytime I listen to this song I feels like closer the heaven, almost touching the clouds...

Best version of marillion’s best song
This is such a masterpiece!
Ppl don’t know how incredibly beautiful this is 😞
Every Marillion song is a masterpiece played from the heart..
This world is quite lonely, Marillion takes some of that away. 🕉♏️☮️

Steve is one hell of a frontman and I remember Fish as being very arrogant.

And if the bottle's no solution
Why does it feel so warm
And if that girl is no solution
Why did she feel so warm
And if to feel is no solution
Why do I feel
Why do I feel so tired
Why do I feel so broken
Why do I feel so outside
Why do I seem so blind
I'm so sick of feeling
It's ruined my life
If living rough is no solution
Why does it ease my mind
If looking back is no solution
Why are we all
Nothing but children
Children inside
Why do the Gods
Sit back and watch
So many lost
What kind of mother
Leaves a child in the traffic
Turning tricks in the dark
What kind of God?
I crawled around inside myself
It was a long way down
It was a mine and it was mine
And in the darkness
I saw a perfect mirror
Floating in space
When I meet God
I'm going to ask her
What makes her cry
What makes her laugh
Is she just stars and indigo gas
Does she know why
Love has no end
But it's dark-angel friend
Tearing women and men
Slowly apart
Stain
Don't do that
Scream
Don't do that
Fail
Never do that
Never do that
I want to go out
Don't do that
I want an adventure
Just stay..
I want
Just stay in
I want to make love
And if the bottle's no solution
Why does it feel so warm
And if looking back is no solution
Why are we all just children inside
And if to feel is no solution
Why does the whole damn world feel so broken
So outside and out-of-sorts
A perfect mirror
Floating in space
Waves and numbers
But oh, such beautiful numbers
And oh, such waves..
Thankyou for posting the lyrics 🙂🙏
Just great!, thanks Arie...

So outside and out-of-sorts ...

The Roth is up there with Ritchie Blackmore for me as one of the best guitarist's I have ever heard.
Steve Hackett, while we're at it. (Him and Rothery dueted on the re-recording of "The Lamia".)
Beautiful.
Fish came, Fish went, the band split, the band reformed, no Fish get over it, we move on with Hogarth who has brought something different but still great music to please your soul. ❤
Any one who cannot get into this song , this band, this awesomeness , should be Section 8 first thing tomorrow....this is insane :-)
Beautiful It helps my head.
Awesome Marillion!!!!
Just first class. Amazing band writing amazing music. Say them in Edinburgh in 1996 and were just phenomenal!
george smith, I can understand your thought process, .com and radiation were my doubting moments but I stuck with it, after a break of twenty six years after seeing them in germany in '87 I too saw them in manchester last year and I cried tears of joy throughout, wolverhampton next year will be my first convention and wild horses will not keep me away
Simply breathtaking!
Just great!
Pipa,
Sadly, No.... Cheers!
Dios se pone contento por el tema,GOD BE HAPPY FOR THE SONG THE WE LOVE.THANKS.
They're no more Genesis influenced than, say, this beautiful track.
fabio filippi Marillion is nothing like Genesis as I have listened to both for more than 45 years. They are totally different.
@@babboon5764 Well, somebody who doesn't know that much about prog could easily mistake early Marillion for Genesis. Especially on the debut album.
@@progmeup Damn - Yes - I totally forgot about 'Grendel'.
Beautiful. But *very* close in one section.
@@babboon5764 It's not just Grendel. Garden Party sounds quite Genesis-like. Forgotten Sons is almost a straight-up rewrite of The Knife. And when my mother heard Lavender she thought it was a Genesis song.
Never get fed up playing this track, great !!!
