There has always been a special place in my heart for Schubert's music. I had known about his long illness, but for some reason had never heard Schwanengesang until now. Valentina, your wonderful interpretation of Schubert's music, together with the lyrics, expresses the incredible depths of his physical and emotional suffering. It is the first time in my life that the music of this brilliant composer has made me weep. You are truly amazing!

I am gladdened and grateful that Val has gifted us this beautiful arrangement and interpretation which moves me very deeply. I can touch the infinite through your playing Val- thank you so much. How can I not enjoy your performance? I'm in awe. The first time I heard these pieces was very recently, with the new release of Harmonia Mundi's "Mein Traum," performed by Pygmalion Orchestra under Raphaël Pichon along with Stéphane Degout (baritone) and a phenomenal production (video + sound). I immediately succumbed to these masterpieces. Then, as I always do, I dug and dug more to learn the history of Schubert's Schwanengesang, and voila, I reached your RUclips site. The big difference between both interpretations, yours and Pygmalion's, yours in particular, is your hands/piano keys and your passion was able to narrate, scream, and express the desolation and agony surrounding Schubert's last composition. Thanks.
Yes me too, plenty of pieces but Rachmaninoff's first piano sonata in particular. I can't even find a single recording on spotify, let alone the best there is which is without a doubt by Valentina. I wonder if there's some reason she isn't contractually allowed to or something ? Hope not
These melodies seem to bring us into Schubert's fast fading health, there are simple elements but some seem regretful. There are some sweet messages, mixed with melancholy. I think that overall Schubert had some stoicism, and some sorrow. He doesn't seem angry, but rather bitter and weary. There is also a contrasted minor briskness at some points. Der Atlas, Atlas seems to carry Schubert's anger. Der Doppelgänger is a Requiem, lost hope, he realizes this is his last bit of living in this world, but since it resolves in a major chord, it is not entirely an unrelieved depression. I think having observed my father learn of his terminal state, that there is an element of shock and resignation, and the recognition that these are the last musical compositions he will write. Thankyou Valentina for taking the time to bring these to us so well interpreted.
Валюша, Слушаю, смотрю, и вспоминаю строки Анчарова: "То что я нажил, гений прожил, и нас уровнял орган." Удивительно музыкальное, драматическое исполнение. Спасибоо Вам за этот дар. Alexander Soifer Colorado Springs, USA
Bravo!!!
Valentina you are at the same time so humble, so simple and so brillant. That´s the definition of a genius. Thank you very much for bringing food to my brain and joy to my soul. I am absolutely grateful. Sincerely, Gus.
Dear Valentina, I bet I am your biggest fan here in Brazil, and I hope to watch you playing some day!!! It's always a big joy when I am told you just uploaded a video. Words aren't enough to describe the feelings your videos bring. And this one is a pearl, poetry and music! All us musicians should put Arts together as they were, so close, some time ago. I am happy to notice you are one of those special artists, complete, who are interested in Arts, not only in playing. Bravo!!!
Like an invisible magnetic force, Schubert's music always attracts me, especially his "Standchen" -- so hauntingly beautiful. I often play it in the evenings before bedtime. Valentina's interpretation and expression is spot-on IMO, and her playing is mesmerizing. Thank you for sharing!
Valentina, i just love this video. I saw you in Ecuador playing Prokofiev, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and other great composers, it was fantastic. I really wanted to tell you that I love what you do, that you inpires me, and that you are a genius of this generation. I'm fairly looking forward to see you again here.
the score has always been on the same page . you have a prodigious memory , it really was a very human experience to hear this piece and even more played from someone like you. I really admire all your work , and how you can convey every aspect of what you may feel while playing . I hope to have the honor of seeing you again in medellin .
The end song is breathtaking. A composer's last words unto the world, the final agonizing breaths of his mind and soul and heart. I have never seen such beauty before in all my life.
Though Schubert was ill off and on for the last 6 years of his life, he also enjoyed periods of good health, traveled, gave a concert of his works, etc. And evidence suggests the last song he ever wrote is the sweet and fairly cheerful "Die Taubenpost". For all the sadness and disappointment in his life, Schubert also experienced a lot of joy from music, nature and his friends. At the time of his death, he'd started counterpoint lessons and was looking forward to more composing.
It's so weird to listen to this, get to 44:06, and squint at the screen until I realized, "Oh right, this music and poem was used as a motif for the Persona 2 duology'. To think I didn't put two and two together until then.
We have lots of people on the stage today who can play pieces like this, and very well too. But really, you make so much out of this with the expression and color, it stops being a banal and rather boring melodrama. You do this kind of thing better than anybody.
Valentina, thank you very much for sharing this with us. Up to now you've made 318 people happy, tipping a tear, holding their breath etc. Playing music is touching people: you have the right touch, wether you play Liszt, Beethoven, Rachmaninov or Schubert, you know how to express them all, and that's your gift.
Gracias HERMOSA!
Atlas, Nemesis, Warrior's Foreboding were my favorites. Thanks for such a huge effort you've put to this Valentina. Always appreciate your interpretations. Serenade was perfect!
Sweet dreams choirs and hands playing the stars create the most beautiful chords universe.Pleiades of hope in that wonderful sounding orchestra illusion and hope great artist!!!!
I find that when playing, particularly when playing free improvisation, it always sounds and feels much better (and easier). Never played a Boesendorfer, but a few very big instruments we had at the college, were just wonderful for expressing every nuance or fortissimo, it just let the music explode from the mind and fingers.
Eurisko Lontano I find it almost impossible to play anything that I improvise on an upright piano for that very reason...the lack of control, of emotive response limits me, and nothing ever sounds right. Despite the adulations of the people around me, I know it would sound so much better if I was on a Bosendorfer...would that I could!
As a singer (who also adore Schubert as much), I reckon that I'd prefer this record over any other modern performances... The transcription is ingenious.
Tomorrow evening I’ll listen to this again. Has been a while. Just sit and take it in. Always intense. I really take it in. To the point the beauty hurts.
valentina -what a magnificent performance of this great tragic song by Schubert--you perform an all Schubert, Schubert/ Liszt program. thank you for your expressive playing
Hermosa Valentina, aparte de ser excelente interprete, nos conecta al espiritu del compositor, convirtiendolo en inmortal.. cada nota.. cada sentimiento. Muchas gracias !!
We (my daughter and I) had the pleasure to enjoy both of your concerts in Gothenburg and Stockholm last week February! In Stockholm we luckily was seated just in front of the piano and it felt like a private concert. I have to say your performance was absolutely magic and your way to interpret the has open my ears and eyes for so much more piano music. I just want to say a BIG thank you! I will not miss your concert when and if you coming to Sweden again :-)
Thank you so much dear Valentina for this wonderful music, a real pleasure for all of us, who adore romantic music. I would like so much listen some day the operas trascriptions of Liszt. Especially the Wagner, and Verdi....

What a great study of this cycle for those to whom the German is a barrier!
Learn German :) actually don't it's annoying
I spent a year and a half in college trying!
Tobias Eisele hahaha - I dropped German as a school subject, French requires a lower niveau for our exams, LOL. I can read German fairly well anyways

Messaggio d'amore
Language: Italian (Italiano) after the German (Deutsch)
Ruscello che mormori,

così lieto e svelto?
Ah, fido ruscelletto,

Tutti i suoi fiori

che con tanta grazia

e le sue rose

Quando lei sta slla riva,
immersa nei sogni,

inchina la testa,
conforta la mia dolcezza
con sguardo amico,

Quandol sole se ne va

Mormora per lei

Evocative reminiscent of nature powerful, multi-faceted, builds momentum to a crescendo. Enjoying immensely.

Great musician, great pianist and impressive woman. I love she!
Agreed. Excepted the last word: "I love her!"
"'Tis she has slain this heart of mine"
It's almost she's caressing the piano.
She literally is, that's how you get a softer/singing tone from the keys!

Your Der Doppelganger is so deeply dense. It's Superb. How I wished that a baritone could accompany you.

Thank you for upload the last Schubert songs he composed, I'm from Perú and I love this video
Somehow I missed this piece. It came from a peaceful time. Everything changed since then.
What a beautiful song it makes you dream I feel like a butterfly
This is truly exceptional, Valentina. Thank you so much for your efforts in creating it.
The book in front of her is not necessary.

I agree... She doesn't need it, she has a privileged memory.
I've heard her play it live without the book. My guess is that she was polishing and perfecting prior to some concert and wanted the music there if she suspected something was amiss.
@@petermetrinko607 I actually think it was for visual reasons. Makes a beautiful picture, framed by the candles :)

Trully amazing! Valentina rocks the classical piano.
she played Für Elise as an encore and that is one overly famous, repetitive and overused piece but what's amazing is that she gave it a fresh new twist to something that has been played over and over, so I don't see why she couldn't give it a try with a very simple piece and see what happens...
Thanks so much for this work, Valentina
Quel talent ! Merveilleux !
