Such a beautiful cover of Atmosphere.
@@ants_in_my_eyes_johnson6844 I agree. Takes me back 40 yrs and listening to John Peel under bed covers
Thx❤
I'm so glad that Trent survived the 90's to do this.
And I'm so glad we survived the 90's to hear that
The audience had no clue what a gift they received. I was in high school when Joy Division announced their U.S. tour with Killing Joke. I was so freaking excited. Couldn't wait to get my tickets. Then Ian Curtis committed suicide on the eve of their departure from England to the U.S. The world truly lost a great talent that day!!
Two great bands. What I’d do to be able to of seen Joy Division Live & Killing Joke in that time frame.
i just wish i could see joy division perform, ian curtis was brilliant
How did you first hear of Joy Division all the way in the U.S.? I was also in high school when I discovered Joy Division, but that was in 2009.
00:00 the day Ian Curtis should have turned 50 New Order went on stage at Arvika Festival. They played mostly Joy Division songs, not Ian on vocals but I got to hear Peter Hook play the baselines for She lost control and Love will tear us apart one of my best live music experiences.
@@johnnyshogun7161 if ur in the UK go and see Transmission (sound of Joy Division) they are absolutely brilliant 👍
Trent Reznor is a huge Joy Division fan, he idolized them. His covering their music is a gorgeous tribute to his idols
He was only 15 and living in the US when Curtis hung himself. At the time of IC's suicide Joy Division were a hardly known niche band on the outskirts of the punk scene.
Wikipedia says his idol was Pete Murphy of Bauhaus. That was a little bit later and would fit.
Breaks my heart how little the crowd reacted to dead souls.....
He treats the songs with the respect of a curator
I worked in a Silk Mill in Macclesfield in the late 70s. There was a record store on Mill St, where the lad behind the counter told me about a local band that was really good. I ordered the album before it's release, took it home the week it came out, fell in love, got my ticket to see them supporting Buzzcocks at Manchester Apollo. They've been a significant part of my life ever since. NIN, thank you for this. It brought tears to my eyes.
Without Joy Division we might not have had Nine Inch Nails, The Smiths, Radiohead and so many other great bands. They influenced several really great artists.
i don't think they influenced the smiths, Morrissey and Marr didn't really like them
Interpol (':
Whoa chill.... im pretty sure we'd still have all these bands still if jd didnt exist...... just enjoy the music
miguel flores they would have found another band to imitate
@@akramsamiir correct, the Smiths had Zero interest in JD
Dead Souls was the first time I technically listened to a joy division song.
Thanks for introducing, Trent.
Same, brother.
Me too!
I got into Joy Division thanks to Trent
Same here. Wasn't until my 20's I learned it was a cover.
Snap
I came in thinking this was going to suck shit, but I was proved wrong. NIN did a great job covering these Joy Division songs. It helps that they stayed true to the original. It actually feels like a tribute to Ian.
Most likely is.
This crowd didn’t seem to know how lucky they were to have a great band like NIN do these 3 covers in a row. Wow!!!
I just cried my very old eyes out.
Dead Souls by NIN still stands as the best cover of a Joy Division song
peter hook and the light.🤔
@@kevbhoy05 Peter Hook was a Joy Division original member, so not realy a cover 🙂
@@LotusAquatics but it is.its no jd or no.😂
Well there is Moby's cover of New Dawn Fades which is up there. And not quite Joy Division, but it was written by Ian, but Galaxie 500's cover of ceremony is one of the best covers ever
Now THIS is how you do a Joy Division cover, wow, very impressed!!!
I think one of the best ways a successful band earns my respect and interest is when they cover another influtenial band for passion rather than profit, that earns my respect and makes me want to listen to their original content
Joy Division est toujours dans les cœurs des musiciens, à plus de 40 ans après la mort de Ian Curtis. Les legendes sont intemporelles. Longue vie à Joy Division.
I have new respect for NIN now. Trent and band performed a beautiful heartfelt tribute to Ian's genius
There are so many songs that I wish NINs would cover, but I'll take these. I'm an 80's kid!
Nice covers by NiN.
R.I.P missing boy.
there was a boy, i almost knew him....
@@sidmicheals9739 a glance exchanged...made me feel good
I never knew they did this! I adore Joy Division.
The launched the post punk era that gave us all that great 80’s music!!!!!
When they first put this cover out for the crow movie, it turned me on to joy division. Thank you
Hell yeah!
thank you very much. i had no idea they had done Atmosphere as well, beautiful is an understatement.
The immportance of Joy Division cannot be underestimated. Just shows influential they were with bands still covering their songs after all this time.
agree
I’m so fucking proud that Nine Inch Nails is in the HAF now & always knew Joy Division was the band. And thank you for making me learn Music
Absolutely fantastic
Ian, see you and your music were very very special.
AWESOME!!! JOY DIVISION+NINE INCH NAILS
Thanks for the up!
NIN cover of Day of the Lords would be NASTY. I’ll keep my fingers crossed
shit you’re right
Now THAT would slap hard. Hell yeah.
I can just imagine Trent going super aggressive on "WHEN WILL IT END"
YEA
Would love to hear them try "The Only Mistake"...
Holy Christ this cover of Digital is stupendous.
So great !! way to go NIN!! exellent covers!
Very cool. Thanks for posting. 🖤
This so special! How cool #NIN covering #joydivision I wish I was there....
One of the best covers of Joy Division songs av heard yet.
Excelentes covers de N.I.N . JOY DIVISION por siempre!!
I Like Tren’s versions, but I like Joy Division’s versions better; also really appreciate Trent remembering them and honoring them with his own versions.
There is no substitute for the original glory of this song. NiN is telling us that they too loved it and this is their respectful nod of tribute.
joi division and the cure
Is best post punk...
Outstanding.
I think they did a really good job. Glad I got to see this.
Great version of dead souls I’ve heard it loads of times but it still gets me.
Thanks for the Upload, Great
I will ever love this...!!!!Merci Trent! Yourè the another Ian , in Voice and Music!!!!!
"Atmosphere" is particularly good.
Woah, very credible!! Respect!
great show long live joy division
This is NiN covering Joy Division! What a sincere, and yet unflatteringly brilliant cover! No trying to sound like JD. No flabby homages to Hooky or Barney. Just a raw interpretation of a band that mattered to them, NiN. I think Ian Curtis would have appreciated the gesture and I know I do. If only New Order could have done a proper homage to their departed founding member I would still be a fan.
Fantastic. JD showed that you can make powerful music using mood and atmosphere as opposed to straight anger. Would love to hear NIN cover she lost control, one of my favorite JD songs.
This is stunningly good.
NIN cover of Dead Souls on The Crow soundtrack made me a Joy Division fan before I'd ever heard their name
Hell yeah!
Gold! Specially Dead Souls, they nailed it
Its on The Crow soundtrack, if you didn't know.
@@jeffrobagman2834 Of course i do! that´s where i heard it from the first time, well... first i saw the movie with that particular scene (the crow is flying in the night while this song was blasting) and then it was a no brainer to buy the soundtrack as soon as it was released.
Yeah que pinches rolas tan más chingonas!!!!
Ian te extrañamos!
Saludos desde Tepexi de Rodríguez.
Nice to see the appreciation of my favourite band in 1979 lol ... Well done NIN.
WHAAAAAAAAAAT. THEY COVERED FUCKING DIGITAL!?!?!?!??! LOVE THAT SONG 😭😭😭
that dead souls opening was ethereal
Why am I only finding out that these exist now?
because you didn't look ?
If it wasn't for Joy Division Nine Inch Nails wouldn't have existed. That's why they are doing this tribute
Would haved loved to hear Joy Division perform Heart & Soul Live! Truly sad Curtis's health concerns and marital issues, took him away from us so soon. A talented singer and writer, terribly missed.
you’re welcome 😇 there are at least 3 live versions: preston, lyceum and moonlight club.
that was just so fulfilling...Joy Division, New Order & nine inch nails are 3 of my favourite bands. i've always had the personal opinion that nine inch nails is lyrically influenced by Joy Division and musically by New Order.
I'm very blessed to have seen them under all 3 different band names, Warsaw, JD, and New Order of course.
I'll never forget hearing of Ians death. Stunned.😢
Reznor & crew did a great job rip ian curtis
Brilliant.
Butiful.
Best of the best.
The opening strains of Atmosphere always bring me to tears. Now if Trent and NIN would cover The Eternal, there'd be buckets, as both those songs make me cry.
Bowie inspired Ian, then both Bowie and Ian inspired Trent. The great circle of life
Or death?!?
Great, that NIN gave a tribute to very great band!🖖☺️
Brilliant. But no one can replace Ian, the fkn bastard.
i lost it when they did "digital" when i saw them at the fox theatre in atlanta in 2018. i did my best ian curtis dance during that song.
This was the first time I heard them cover it. I'm just astounded. So good.
Trent Reznor is not only one of the best singers I have heard but his musical composition skills are unrivaled. I like the stuff he does with Atticus as well. A legendary musician covering a musician whose talent we are sorely lacking but he is no longer in pain.
Love their take on The Immigrant Song!
i wonder how many of those folks in the crowds were like "wtf is this???" probably a TON.
what i'm thinking lol
I've listened to joy division covers made by other bands, but none exited me like nin ones... ❤
You should check out the Ceremony cover by Galaxie 500....so good.
@@miketeller6582 hi, yes i've listened to it, i think it is very far from the original sound and energy Joy Division gave to the song.. personally, i'm more into other sounds, that's why i still prefere NIN ones!.. anyway, thank you for the suggestion! 👋
Proper cover!
Fantastic
One guy liked the first song. I would have been blown away by Dead Souls!!!
The Crow was my introduction to NIN.
Such an excellent soundtrack. TKK and Machines of Loving Grace as well. TKK even made it in the movie!
thanks x
Alucinas o alucinas no hay más 🤘🏻
Respect
The best.
that was a wonderful version of Atmosphere... which is one of my top 3 tunes of all time... only the original recording itself sounds better than that
What a find!!!
Bravo.
Love his covers of JD also those with Peter Murphy. Wonder if 1/2 that audience had an idea of the history and greatness of JD.
beautifull
Perfect.
Dunno any of their stuff but big respect to them obviously JD were a big influence on them and I love JD big time so yea good on them
treasure i found
Saw the dead souls cover at the palladium on my birthday. Great fucking night
On the Black tour? That night out of all of the nights at the palladium, that set on Tuesday, was perfection. Opening with Beautiful Lie, and Dead at the end.
Happy belated
Ya he visto a trent tocar junto a David bowie y ahora lo veo haciendo covers de joy division 🙏espero el día en que haga un cover de depeche mode
Brody Dalle`s band does a brilliant version of No Love Lost live on here somewhere. Moby also does a few JD covers live worth listening to. I really like the live version of Cars by Numan done by NIN. Rubens is a brilliant drummer to watch.
Joy Division, your favorite band's favorite band....
Wouldn't it have been nice to have Ian up there with Trent trading vocals? In a way.....he was.
not too shabby
Time for a revolution!
When that guitar kicks in on Dead Souls is when I would have lost my shit. Probably my favorite JD song and NIN version is one of the best things Trent has ever done. Then again pretty everything Trent has done is the best things he's ever done. XD
Yeah, Dead souls is also my favorite JD song. I also really like she lost control
❤paying Osage to Joy Divsion is Amazing ❤much ❤2023
Good effort I must say
These are the best NIN songs I've ever heard. Not bad...
Whenever Dead Souls is played there should be a screen with scenes from The Crow on it.
Eric leaping across the skyline...
Wonder how many in the audience actually knew the songs ? There pretty quiet here.
If I heard these live tbh I'd probably be too caught up in just soaking in the moment rather than sing along, Joy Division are perfect 💜
And even if they don't know these songs, it's no big deal, at least they're getting exposed to some great fuckin songs 😎
@zephyra guess that's your opinion, sometimes the crowd does suck but it can be easy to just live in the moment is all I was saying, it's always difficult to tell
Still though, NIN covering JD is fuckin dope and deserves so much attention lol
@zephyra ite, whatever man
The crowd sucked, I was there with my uncle and dad. We heard the JD songs and flipped out when we knew. The concert was absolutely amazing, and it was my first NIN concert and I got to experience this. Absolutely surreal.
zephyra Who the fuck cares about the crowd? It’s all about the band and being in the moment.
I'll do the epileptic dance once I heard Digital!
C est joli. Un belle omage
mais oui !
