I am a huge Joy Division fan and have been for decades, but I would LOVE to hear Peter Murphy and NIN cover the Joy Division Catalogue. At least Ceremony, which was poorly recorded before Ian Curtis died.
Was fortunate enough to catch Peter Murphy in Atlanta around the Cuts You Up days. I've never seen a lead singer have more stage presence or total command of his backing band. It was like watching a goth version of Prince.
@@billqs9974 Yeah, the only thing that bothered me was he didn't do Cuts You Up, and that was his signature track. Caught The Psychedelic Furs,a week later though, and Love My Way more than made up for it. Always wanted to see John Foxx, but alas.
i really fucking adore this. my favorite joy division song rendered by one of my favorite vocalists (peter) and someone who i find eternally interesting and energizing (trent). beautiful stuff.
Absolutely amazing. R.I.P. Ian Curtis!!! Your music has touched lives that beyond any imagination!! Thanks Trent and Peter for this beautiful collaboration!!! I want to this to be played at my funeral!!!
Obviously they aren't trying to copy or be Ian. They are just covering a good song to pay respect to Ian Curtis and this amazing song. So stop being bitter and saying it sucks because it's "not Joy Divsion" that obviously wasn't the goal.
@@cbo2762 hmm, better than joy division? obv it's a matter of opinion but Joy Division are the one of the most important bands of the 20th century in terms of how many bands they influenced, even Murphy and NiN, as good as they are, would ever claim to have bettered JD's version
ITS ABSOLUTE AMAZING!!!!! Original, cover, all people who just touch this beauty...who have the luck ,create.... Ian,Peter,Trent....all people with them, amazing.
A great musician -- Murphy, a great band -- NIN and... an eternal song, from an eternal musical and philosophical genius , an inspiration for countless bands and rockers all over the World and over and over generations: Ian Curtis! You still live in us, Ian, forever!
The song is simply great. I used to listen to it in late 80's. This cover is fantastic, adds modernity to Ian Curtis masterpiece, but is as deep as the original song.
Something ends to start again. And starts to end. All is ends. Everything ends. And these ends are beginnings. I love it. I deeply LOVE the sadness within, the hope and the tiny wish for something better.
MrRyan1011 Yes i know. Trent is a fucking genius. Pretty hate machine as some of the best beats ever made in music history. It be cool if the whole " industrial" sceen makes a come back hope it does.
Definitely, granted. James O'Barr (the creator of The Crow and writer of the comic the film is based on) had to really push Reznor to do that cover of Dead Souls. As Reznor saw Joy Division's music as untouchable. Source: Interviews with O'Barr (namely some he did at Comic Con)
In 2006, summer leg of the With_Teeth tour, Trent did a series of pre-show performances with Peter Murphy for radio stations, performing a series of covers and stripped down versions. This performance was from the Chicago date, where the entire band covered Joy Division songs.
This is truly sublime. just amazing foundation from a unique artist that has been dragged away, interpreted by two musical geniuses that create atmospheric cathartic anthems of the souls. Never in Silence!!!
Walk in silence, Don't walk away, in silence. See the danger, Always danger, Endless talking, Life rebuilding, Don't walk away. Walk in silence, Don't turn away, in silence. Your confusion, My illusion, Worn like a mask of self-hate, Confronts and then dies. Don't walk away. People like you find it easy, Naked to see, Walking on air. Hunting by the rivers, Through the streets, Every corner abandoned too soon, Set down with due care. Don't walk away, in silence, Don't walk away.
Its far better than other versions I've heard and it has been given their own feel but true to the original and both are amazing musicians in their own right, 7.9 from me !
People are probably gonna hate me for this but I like this version better than the original. But we wouldn't have this without it so I am glad it exists. Also wonder what a version with Trent Reznor singing it would sound like.
So amazing. Several great collaborations between these two. I love NIN and honestly feel that Trent Reznor is a genius, but he almost sounds like he's singing karaoke next to P.M.
+Sérgio Fernandes Best cover of a JD song I've heard but with Peter and Trent, not surprised. Best cover ever (to me anyway) with a bit of irony is The Man in Black, Johnny Cash - Hurt. Even Trent when he heard said it felt like someone had stolen his girlfriend. The song wasn't his anymore. Give it a listen you may or may not like it. To me, it's heartbreaking. Still play Trent's of course but Cash knowing death was close gives it literally something inside me I can't, we don't have words for.
How great was Joy Division. A band with some of the greatest songs and total vibe and this cover is so cool I mean only something this epic could be inspired by Joy F***** Division
Pete Murphy would have made the perfect replacement front man for Joy Division, it would've been a nice job to step into after the disbanding of Bauhaus.
Agree completely that Ian C had the perfect intensity and anguish for his lyrics. I think what other singers and bands miss when they try to cover Joy Division is that Ian Curtis was someone trying to hold the pain and grief he felt *within* himself when performing and was trying to *transform* those feelings into poetry when he wrote. Many covers I've encountered try to outdo the original in some way, and miss the point completely. If you really want to cover Joy Division and make something of it, you have to find something that's *NOT* in the original song that's something you feel strongly about. That said, this is a good cover because it's simple and respectful.
I was just thinking the same thing. I've been listening to Peter Hook and The Light's live Joy Division albums on repeat recently. The songs on which Rowetta does vocals are amazing. Colony blew me away.
Not often covers are as good as the original, or even better. One of the best songs ever!
Peter Murphy could sing the dictionary. What an awesome blend of talent and song choice.
I am a huge Joy Division fan and have been for decades, but I would LOVE to hear Peter Murphy and NIN cover the Joy Division Catalogue. At least Ceremony, which was poorly recorded before Ian Curtis died.
The Radiohead cover of Ceremony is amazing.
You meant Galaxie 500 right :)
Was fortunate enough to catch Peter Murphy in Atlanta around the Cuts You Up days. I've never seen a lead singer have more stage presence or total command of his backing band. It was like watching a goth version of Prince.
Completely agree. I saw him in PGH in a small venue called Graphitti with a girl named Sevi. What a fantastic night!!
I caught that tour, too! Amazing!

Bauhaus and NIN doing Joy Division... well ain't this the fucking coolest thing you've heard of
Obviously they aren't trying to copy or be Ian. They are just covering a good song to pay respect to Ian Curtis and this amazing song. So stop being bitter and saying it sucks because it's "not Joy Divsion" that obviously wasn't the goal.

No! Ian was in All Sense Joy Division...
Heavenly! Thank you Peter, your voice as close to Ian's as possible
As soon as the vocals start...Brilliant!!!
Really good cover of a masterpiece. ...Well done Mr Murphy ...Always loved Bauhaus .
Wow! When artists you love cover artists you love... tears!

One of the most beautiful songs ever !!! Im always crying listening this song !!! Real masterpiece !!!!
Me and you both brother..
Really masterpeace i am listening even with chorus
I love their homage to Ian though nothing can beat his vocals-quite touching
Reznor did a amazing job on Dead Souls for The Crow Soundrack. He should do a whole Joy Division cover album that would be out of this world.
dude thats a good fucking idea. only prob is trent has like a million projects going on right now.
MrRyan1011 Yes i know. Trent is a fucking genius. Pretty hate machine as some of the best beats ever made in music history. It be cool if the whole " industrial" sceen makes a come back hope it does.
There would be no chance of that happening with the Hooky/ NO feud/lawsuit going on

This mks our Ian Curtis oh so proud. R.I.P eternal friend till the end. These guys keepin him alive🤟💜💋
One of the best JD song, somewhere between decades, day of the lords and new dawn fades
Fantastic!
I will give credit where credit is due. This is impressive, and it gets the sound and vocals right. Close to the original in quality.
These 2 made me happy to be alive today.

Where can I get the fucking record???? They make JD sound joyful
Pete Murphy would have made the perfect replacement front man for Joy Division, it would've been a nice job to step into after the disbanding of Bauhaus.
It would have been better than New Order, but it would have lasted about as long as Joy Division did, so.....
fucking breathless
Not bad, but no one has and ever will match the intensity and emotional angst that Ian had when he sang.
True, maybe possibly Jeff Buckley
Agree completely that Ian C had the perfect intensity and anguish for his lyrics. That goes without saying. And I don't think I detract from that when I say this cover is unspeakably inspired.
Possibly the greatest "sad" song of all time!
Richard Fitt that and The Eternal by Joy Division.
There is ONLY Pete Murphy that can sing this with conviction and do it how someone other than Ian could.
C'e' anche Adrian Borland, strepitoso nell'interpretazione di Ian. Nella sua apparente semplicita' buca l'anima Adrian.
Great guitars
Great!

amazing 🙏🍷
Brutal!

The original is always the best, right? Check out Hooky's version with Rowetta. Very nice
Yes, that one is a killer - in every positive way of the word. Rowetta nailed it. "Insight" too.
