- This is a beautiful cover of Atmosphere by Adrian Borland from his performance at Kulturzentrium Osterholz on 17.08.1994
I can't think of a person more fitting to cover a Joy Division song than Adrian Borland. This is an absolutely beautiful cover, and the sound quality is fantastic too.
If you haven't listened to much by Adrian Borland, I highly recommend checking out his band The Sound and his solo career.

Some bands especially the sound are just too good and find themselves under the radar so to speak diamonds in the rough I'm so chuffed i discovered Adrian borland and the sound etc it was joy division that caught my attention to this band who are like a mix of JD, the doors, magazine, echo and the bunnymen and one more in sonic youth. Absolute genius i love discovering new artists such as xiu xiu and black ceiling be the others I'm digesting these days they are way more relatable than Duran Duran for example. R.i.p Adrian borland R.i.p Ian Curtis.

I've said this on RUclips before, but I had no idea that this existed, and it is so, so good. Adrian sounds so amazingly calm, whilst whirling in introspective wonder. This song can barely be done badly, and nothing tops the original, but I love this anyway.

Such a special soul. I've followed and become invested in tons of musicians over the years but Adrian will always mean the most to me. I hope I'll get to see him some day. Until then I reckon he's in there somewhere within the hearts of many who keep his memory alive.

The best cover of this song,and Adrian just gives this stripped down version a different "Atmosphere".l'd love to see Bruce Springsteen cover this,as this version sounds like it could easily fit on his "Nebraska" album.

Anyone who covers this song well is okay with me.
I was lucky enough to see Adrian and the Sound live. Being a left hooker, he has joined an exclusive club........ Jimi, Kurt..... The choice of an Ian Curtis song is prophetic.....l can't look at pictures of a beautiful child, knowing his fate, without getting emotional. The Sound never got the recognition that they deserved......

i wished he'd made it to at least the early 2000's and the internet has kicked off. People would have found him amd discovered that he was their favourite artist of all time that but they hadnt heard him yet. Someone would have marketed him and he would have found the audience that were screaming out for him all along. Im sure if that positive attention came in droves as it would he would have survived. He would have been a Messiah to so many disenfranchised young people out there.
