  • This was a most memorable holiday in Sutherland, with Caithness, the most Northerly of the mainland British counties. A long drive but a pleasurable one! taking us past some classic game fishing rivers..... enjoy!

    You give a splendid introduction to this very special region. I've always fancied a summer break in Scotland's far north. It's good to know that Dornoch is such an attractive place to stay, and most importantly, that your good wife enjoyed the experience as much as you did. Another great video.

    the whole place looks amazing mate but i hear your point on hiring a guide, a place like that takes a lifetime to figure out, its great to see the area where that great lure the "sutherland special" comes from, thanks for taking us all on another wonderful trip 👍👍

      Indeed! Going to take some learning though! Low tide, left hand bank, there's a big slack forms where the torrent slows to slow walking place, that's where the gentle swirls where, I think sea trout feeding on shrimps or whitebait. When I discovered that I had 5 mins left and I was on the wrong bank 2 miles walk away (back to the bridge and round)
      There were some cracking fish jumping in front of me but I think they were running through without stopping😂

    Great video David. Really enjoyed it. I think the permit prices speak for themselves. All sea trout fishing in the sea is challenging. Tight lines.

    Thanks for putting this together. Last time I was up that way was 20 plus years ago. Visited all those places and had some success fishing the estuary nr Betty Hill. I don't know whether I should call them White Trout or Sea Trout. It was a lot of fun anyway. I fished the Kyle of Tongue at low tide and had to run for it as I nearlly got cut off by the flood. Happy Days!

      Fantastic John! I keep meaning to do more BR stuff but don't seem to get around to it. I intend to do one that shows how to "drop" a full virtual band into a quiet vocal/acoustic song! (Ala - let it be, stairway to heaven, behind blue eyes, several queen songs, ditto pink Floyd!) Cheers for the sub

    Great video of the fishing and area, so many sights I recognised. We were down camping in Fife last weekend so were up and down the Perth/Inverness road. We really like Perth, the races at Scone Palace are a good weekend away. Fishing gear stays at home generally on our camping trips! Unlucky on the sea trout but as you say, they can be fickle even in places you are familiar with, and this was totally new and it did look tricky plus a big water too. Sounds like you have more info for the return, I shall look forward to that 👍

      @@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 be glad to have you come and sample Skye. I was out monday evening for my first cast for sea trout and it went better than i expected tbh. I saw one really good fish too - whist I was faffing about with a tangle 😆 TYPICAL. then last night i wandered down another river and saw some very good fish jumping, I never touched any, they were too far away to get a cast to - for me anyroad! So fingers crossed it might fish ok for sea trout this next month or so. All the best 👍

      Thanks! Fishing into the dark may have worked but I'd need to find a place where fish lie or patrol, plus the safety aspect would be a consideration there!
      It's a balancing act too, you can have as many sessions and as long as you wish on a fishing holiday, but I'd promised my wife it was just a 3 hour session. A bit of a drive from Dornoch to Bonar too!
      I fish at night on familiar waters at home, usually 10 mins drive or less away!👍

      @@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 there is something v. special about the far north of UK in high summer. We all remember Hugh Falkus on the river Esk in N. Cumbria!

      @Rocky-hs9ei thanks for the comment! My most memorable sea trout came when I got back from skye one summer, we had a great time, I'd caught brownies in the sea lochs but not sea trout.
      After we unpacked I went down to my local stream in suburban Lancashire on the edge of an old mill town, sat on the bank while the light faded, had a few casts once it got dark with a bushy surface lure and hit a very lively bright sea trout! Gleaming in the torchlight, got a photo, gently slipped her back and laughed loudly to myself!! Is this normal behaviour??🤣

    Some of those spots absolutely screamed mullet but I don't think anybody would drive 700 miles to fish for what swims in every estuary in England 😁

    • @soultrader57fishingandmusi25
      @soultrader57fishingandmusi25  11 месяцев назад

      I know what you mean, but I didn't see any. Last year on the Isle of Mull I noticed a shoal of grey mullet but only in one specific place. I suspect the sea on the East coast of Scotland might be a little cool for them, although there's bass around at times.
