Soul Trader Wild Fishing and Music
Добавлен 20 июн 2014
This channel is the expressive outlet for my twin passions! I fish a variety of locations using diverse methods, but wherever possible for wild rather than stocked fish! I make my own music for the videos too. Please enjoy! 😊
Trout fishing on a challenging and magical tiny brook, in late august !
August is a hard month on my local river usually, but this little spot can produce some interesting sport if you're prepared to battle the jungle landscape to get to the best bits!
Taking 1 small fly rod and a diverse selection of flies and lures is a super fun way to tackle this wee stream!

Skimmers, Slabs and Sunsets! Bream and Tench fishing on a beautiful public park lake
Просмотров 274Месяц назад
RSI in my casting hand, warm weather, and low river levels have kept my fly rods hung up in the garage lately, so I took the opportunity to have a relaxing session on my local park lake, in pursuit of Tench and Bream. There's something very special about Summer Evenings, and this one was no exception! I hope you enjoy this as much as I did! Groundbait - Sonubaits "lake" mixed 50/50 with coarse ...

Something I ought to do more of! this is a deadly simple method, very quick to set up and simple to execute! A great way to search for these great fighters in summer when location can be difficult. Also a very natural form of presentation for educated fish that have seen a thousand swim feeders!! Hope you enjoy!

After the inevitable tailing off of the mayfly season, I had a brief mission trying to track down a Bass on my local Lancashire coast, which has some interesting features suitable for fly fishing. Lots of flogging and no result, coupled with some RSI problems in my right wrist lead me to try something quite new! I bought a second hand whip at an angling club tackle fair recently, and decided to...

We stayed overnight in the charming village of Kingussie, en-route North to Sutherland. I couldn't resist the opportunity to cast a fly across the hallowed River Spey! Thankfully the bank -busting floods after prolonged torrential rain in England didn't really make the same impact up here, with a nice level holding on the Northern Scottish rivers. Thanks for watching, next time, Sutherland!

Just a competition against myself to see how many trout (of any size) I can catch and release from my local stream. Although its a mere 5 minute walk from my front door, its one of my favourite places to fish, anywhere! enjoy!
Smaller river = Larger trout! stalking a good brown trout on a quiet evening. Magical!

A challenging but promising stretch of river not too far from home! A public space, but very quiet this evening, thanks to intermittent drizzle and wet undergrowth keeping the dogs and owners at bay! Not that I have a problem with the general public enjoying a public river, but I look forward to damp evenings 🤣 Hoped to use a dry fly but the only fish I could find rising were unresponsive, so a...

Making it look easy with that fly rod! Guarantee I’d spend more time in the trees and re tying than actually fishing 😂 great little session 👍🏻👊🏻
Haha! Thanks! I might put a long edit out, including tree tangles! 😂 There's some big perch I didn't know about under that railway bridge! Next project after trout season....👍👍👍
Well done
Some cracking fish on the sedge there Dave, well done. This season is nearly done☹️
0:06 Hi Chris, You'd never give that beck a second glance when it's running at bare bones reservoir outlet level (99% of late spring, summer, and autumn) You never see fish rising or bolting for cover, but given a touch of colour and dropping water, they're there for a blind fished sedge, and Aug into Sept seems better up here than further down where I normally fish. One or two surprises, though! Chub and odd pike too in here. Sea trout in ribble system abysmal this year, should have been next video, but all I have is nice scenery, endless casting and frequent fly changes under torchlight! 👍👍
Just the tonic I needed on another day of heavy rain and nice to see you back after mr trout, during winter maybe a few flies explained in a vid such as your small white streamer and your lightweight nymphs. ATB mike
Sorry I skipped the close up of the white streamer! Don't know why, white seems better for perch, black for trout. You've given me an idea for a video short! 👍🤣
Hi there , great vid , is that an old Leeda Rimfly reel you are using eh , all the best David.
Ha ha! Thanks, yes it's a rimfly, one of many, no expense spared😂 £5 from car boot sales ! 👍
Hi Dave, I've been down there a few times recently and totally blank but your videos definitely educate me in the art of fly fishing. Very much appreciated as always.
Hi fella😊! If you pm me on Facebook I'll give you a bit more info. It's hopeless, usually for trout when low, if the main river is running 140mm on the upstream gauge its about right- an inch or so up and a hint of colour! If low, you can get perch on a small streamer in the deeper holes under trailing roots etc👍👍
YES Soul Brother..My Sunday morning tharapy with another great fishing vid..Not seen you post for a while so this was well needed, Thankyou my good friend Awesome scenery and great fishing tips bro Nice one....
Cheers Gaz, these methods are more suited to light spinning gear (apart from dry fly) more elbow room! 👍👍
Nice fish .
I love these little rivers as well .
yes , a serious addiction!!🤣🤣👍
I use to fish the lower Avon, at Ringwood, long trotting for chub on bread, caught plenty of chub & Trout on bread. Even managed Salmon on trotting bread, landed a few. Hooked one salmon, was upper double possible 20lber, cleared the water several times, eventually it cut the line. That was an experience ill never forget 😳😳 Great times on the Avon.
Yes, iconic river. Bread seems to catch everything on chalkstreams! up here its more a silvers bait.👍👍
Wrong side of Loch Frisa. I've fished it countless times. LOTS of big Brownies if, you know how and where to fish it. You can get the odd one on bait, but you need big lures, fished deep to catch the biggies in numbers. Loch Torr is great for small brownies which, rise freely to the fly.
I haven't actually fished Frisa myself, that just happened to be the access footpath I used.
Are you guys playing in northern Rivers NSW soon?!
Sorry mate! the band no longer exists, and I live in the UK! take care, thanks for watching 👍👍
Nice film thanks. Maybe im getting old but i found the music to be a completely unnecessary distraction. Would have rather listened to the birds.
Thanks! I've probably backed off with the music a little nowadays, just tend to use it for intros and outros! maybe I'm getting old too but many of my demographic are like me are into 60s and 70s style rock, folk and pop, that's why I don't use irrelevant AI generated dance music.
Really enjoyed that Mike, love the back story of the rod and seeing you turn you hand to hopefully open another chapter in the life of a rod that is clearly dear to you. Tight lines 👍
Thanks Matt, just a different matter getting a sea trout in front of me 😂
Which part is this pal is it up by edisford
that was the Hodder, mate. a few years back, I gave up the ticket as I wasn't getting up there much👍
The "New" rod seems to be working fine Dave! You and my Dad would get on well methinks. He sees himself as bit of an inventor! I imagine you've tinkered around for many hours in your shed and garage!
Just plain tight! Certainly eases the strain on my wrist! Need some good meaty spates to try her out more! 👍
Very impressed with your DIY skills. Well done Dave you are super talented!
Well, maybe hang on until I tidy it up a bit 😂 thanks man! 👍👍
It,s Sunday and what an awesome way to relax watching the Soul Brother Bagging up...Great vid Brother...
Glad you enjoyed it! I've still to catch up on the Wildman's latest manoeuvres🤣👍
@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 It,s been great fun Brother, Been down South, got some old history footage, Shame to have to come back to the Daily grind though..Keep up the good work My friend, love your vids....
well that bream slime is one of the reasons why i started to fish more for perch hahah, but still love to watch the bream fishing mate :D
Tbh I was praying for a tench! But looking back at the footage and seeing the sunset I couldn't resist loading it up. My coarse fishing following isn't great, my fly fishing videos do much better! 👍👍
Very nice Dave, almost makes me want to get the float tackle out and go and chase some Crucians 👍
Crucians! Now there's a thing, not many around here these days, just F1s in the numerous commercial carp puddles! Low scummy rivers and poor oxygen in our rivers until yesterday, but a wee flood running off now, so I'll get out tonight with sea trout in mind before the next heatwave sets in! The coarse fishing has been a pleasant distraction, though! 😊👍👍
@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 yeah into the dog days now, and the trout fishing is hard going. We have a lake just up the road where there were some huge Crucians in it, but somehow some goldfish got in there, and they hybridised. Amazing fish to catch, though. Perhaps I should go and see if it's still open to fishing. It was many years ago now. How did you get on in Cornwall? If you took the A30 past okehampton you past just by the factory.
I had 3 hours on the camel estuary, lovely spot! Some nerve-wracking moments when big bass come close to the shore but it's so difficult to cover then as they pop up just out of range or behind you! I had a couple of follows and last minute refusals! But no contact! I've some nice footage in store and could make a video if I can get just 1 from the ribble estuary! Barbel fishing in the Wye was exciting though! Good luck with the pond! 👍
Heck, I thought you'd got Pink Floyd playing the intro for you 😁 Lovely fishing as always. Thanks.
Ha ha! Probably a bit Gilmour inspired, if I'm honest! Back to fly this weekend as weve a drop of water now! Were's me ibuprofen gone???😂👍
@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 I spend the afternoon casting lures out. Shoulder was giving me some right grief last night. Tight lines on the fly, don't forget the camera.
Good stuff Dave, lovely evening you had there. I'm hoping to hit the burn tomorrow, if this bloody wind calms down, been blowing a hooly. Looking forward to your next adventure 👍
Loved this, have always wanted to fly fish the Kyle of Sutherland. Great music too.
Glad you enjoyed it! hope to get up there again soon, one day I'll crack it! 🤣👍
bream slime, you gotta love it haha, great vid
Has it got built in amp
no, just a tiny pre amp for headphones or jack out into hi fi or PA 👍
I work near Ramsbottom. Been fishing near Brooksbottom. I have a little something that might be of interest to you! Let me know if you fancy a quick dry fly sesh!!
That sounds promising Dave, ATM there's 2 reasons why I'm holding back on fly fishing - 1 - weather seems still a little too warm for trout welfare (though cooler than last week!) and 2 -I've a RSI problem in my wrist /hand which is making casting difficult for more than a few minutes! if cooler towards late august and my hand recovering faster you're on! thanks! is Brooksbottom near Summerseat? if you Pm me on Facebook?
Yes, basically start at the bridge and it's a very nice walk upstream. @@soultrader57fishingandmusi25
Pink parachute emerger!
Got behind with my sub’d videos, that was a great watch with a brew Dave. Nice fish there, that spider nymph were you fishing that in the surface film or just subsurface? Very well done, looking forward to your sea trouting, I made a start on Thurs evening 👍
subsurface mate, its slightly weighted but it seems to work well fishing to rises too (on lochs as well as rivers!) sea trouting suspended until weather cools! next vid is barbel! 👍👍👍
Leader way too light at least 12lbs 15 lb better in the salt water they aint leader shy in the salt
Hmmm - fair enough for streamers but small flies on a stiff thick leader don't fish nicely IMO 👍
Cracking Video Mate ,Have you ever fished the Ribble at Ribchester for Grayling ?
Can,t beat a bit of bank fishing Soul brother..Great stuff..
Some lovely runs and features on your local stream Dave. Nice one doing the catching with your own fly too, great stuff 👍
Yes, thanks Davie. I'm pretty blessed here! Might come in handy when I'm too old to drive! 😂 serves to demonstrate the importance/advantage of familiarity with your waters, and that means lots of short sessions on local beats. I never really get bored with it and it's an obvious choice to practice new techniques and test new flies. 👍👍
Ahhhh My Sunday Morning catch up with the Soul Brother...Awesome brown trout fishing braavaaa Love it..
Loving this comment! Top bloke Gaz!! ❤️👍
The waters look very similar (beautiful little pools ect) to somewhere I'm joining next year. Great fishing! Could I ask your setup please?
sorry, should have gone through it in the video! 7ft 3 # fly rod, double taper 3 # floating line, 9ft tapered leader to 4lb tippet, and spider nymph. thanks for watching. 👍👍
Great result
Cheers Martin 👍
Another excellent video, I dont know how you do it, if i go there im happy with 1 or 2 and you never cease to amaze me. Keep up the great work.
Ha ha! Thanks! Can't do it anywhere else though! 😂😂👍
Lovely small river fishing. Always nice to see these little Brownies and don't they fight hard. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching! Got to catch up on your latest one soon 👍
Some lovely fish there, Dave, and some really good angling. It is surprising, isn't it just where these trout will lie. I had a good fish from the Yeo Sunday evening from a tiny spot that you'd swear would only produce small fish. It wasn't until I waded through the pool that you could see the depression in the stream bed with tree roots for cover. Easy to walk past such a spot when viewed from our world.
Thanks, Chris! Yes, you're right, it only needs a hole the size of a washbasin to hold a decent fish, especially if there's shade there, too. I'm also backing off the utube thing, too, it's just too time-consuming trying to publish every week. At one point I was getting annoyed with myself if I left my camera at home! Last week I fished the park lake for bream and tench and broke my pb for bream 3 times in an hour. Guess what? No charge on camera! Strangely it didn't bother me, so maybe I'm half cured of my video obsession 😂 Good luck! 👍
Lovely stream and a great video too. Well worth watching David. Thanks for uploading.
Very welcome! 👍
Nice fish there mate, always almost been dry fly only no matter if there is fish rising or not. Ive got a little stream that i fish and it’s sometimes got a few good fish in it, I actually posted a video on my channel of me fishing it if you want to have a look, was the nymph you were fishing unweighted? There is some really good pools that I Walk past to get to my spot, they are really deep into fast runs, really like a Dartmoor stream down in England, Ive always wondered what Would happen if I drifted a nymph through it like what you were doing
thanks! I do try to mix it up a bit! that nymph is only weighted by a few turns of fine wire under the thorax, it fishes mid water upstream nymph style rather than how you would fish a euro nymph. more recently I've covered rising fish that refuse dries (usually through drag) with it and connected. The 2 better fish in the video came from tiny pocket pools where dry flies would be washed under or drag immediately. I'm sure it would work on your stream too. I may do a real time video of the tying sequence with narration once I've tested it a little more. I'll take a look at your channel! good luck 👍👍
@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 ah sounds good, will have a look for that video and tie up some myself, Thankyou! Unfortunately that night I recorded was a very slow night, only tiny fish, think they were just attacking the fly, I was there again a few days ago and had a few descent ones 👍 a salmon even attacked a fish I was bringing in!!? It was crazy!
That’s a wonderful stream. The markings on the fish are beautiful. Tight lines
thanks ever so👍👍
What happens to the fish if it swallows the plastic worm?
It would have to swallow the hook too as it holds on much tighter than a real worm. Otherwise, I suppose it would pass through at the other end.
There are no salmon on the Water of Leith, not over the Dean bridge. Fished it all my life, so go to the Almond at Cramond...
When I was younger I fished Ripley beck in North Yorkshire a tributary of the river nidd full of chub trout perch and even carp that came out of the lake
Aye! I dare say there's places like this up and down the country! Thanks for the comment and interest. 👍
Very relaxing stuff Dave, some nice silvers there, especially those roach. Great fun on the whip. Nice float stops too - i’m sure you won’t, but if you ever need any old cable let me know 😆 Good luck with the Lancashire coast bass search 👍
Ha ha! Thanks matt, very kind offer but its not likely that I'll need more than a few inches of that stuff to see me out 😂 The red sleeving is handy for sea trout and salmon tube flies - a mate of mine just lashes a few stoat or badger hairs to a 1 inch piece of sleeve! 😂👍
Great video Dave, enjoyed that 🤘🏻
Thanks Michael, a bit different this time! Bit of a slog on our estuary fishing, but I've a young friend on the case now to put in some legwork and find the fish! So fingers crossed for sea trout or bass! 🤣
@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 Awesome stuff Dave, can’t wait to see you upload a Bass mate! Looking forward to it Dave, hope you are well mate 🤘🏻

Yes mate, nice in the early morning but noisy later! Quite a contrast from the local river, which runs straight past it!👍
Fab video. Great to see you fishing the whip and the sliding float. Well done 👏🎣😎
More to come! Quite addictive! Cheers Mark 👍
Fabulous Dave
Thanks Anthony 👍
nice relaxing session that 1 dave sometimes its just whats needed after a few hard trips, i know your were hunting bass but that place at the beginning looked real seatrouty 2! at least your gettin out mate 👍👍🎣
Thanks James! Been bad with a cough this week so not much happening. Yes it does look sea trouty at that stage of tide, but it's good sized bass I've had there in the past. There's rumours of lots of sea trout down there, but I've yet to meet someone who's caught one 😂 Probably worth a go later this month when the schoolies start running through. We did see a couple of bow waves amongst the whitebait and my young mate caught 2 crabs on fly! 👍👍
I bought one for the kids years ago and used it more than them 🫢 great fun and you definitely bump less fish off than using a (sensitive) float rod 👍 tight lines
Thanks for the comment mo! Yes I missed out on the tench and bream prospects, so engrossed! I see you've been hammering the big stuff! 👍👍
