Lovely video Dave. I have the line coming off the bottom of the reel rather than the top. Suppose that's just a personal preference. Nothing better than a pin for trotting a float down a small stream. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Phil! It's an old Yorkshire dales method. if it's an open spool type like mine, it seems to reduce tangles and reduces friction. I saw it on utube vid once and thought it looked like a good idea.
Only thing is you have to remove the line guard.
Gets confusing when you pick up a fly rod again, though! 😂

Another wonderful video, thank you so much.
I’ve fished a couple of tiny rivers most of this year and it’s amazing what you can catch in them on the simplest of tackle.

Excellent trotting with the centre pin and line coming off the top ,direct line passage through rod rings makes it easier for reel to rotate as less friction , nice one . All the best David.

Thank you, David! I can't claim the idea as mine. It's quite a tradition in the Yorkshire Dales!
The only trouble is when I pick up a fly rod and get confused with which way is "in" 😂

It's not really a river I'd recommend for coarse fishing, there's shoals of roach, dace, chub, and perch here and there but few and far between.
Just handy for me, though! 👍

Its a lovely little river i was hoping to get out this weekend to that very area, but the weather has put a damper on that its well up and pushing through rihht now. Had a couple chunky dace from the opposite bank. Even managed to find some chub further downstream a few weeks ago. Set myself a species hunt at the beginning of this year and I've managed trout chub dace roach perch but you do have to go through the trout to find the fish. Hope to see you on the bank sometime.

That's good Christian! There's a second tree across the river now though, which makes life difficult from that bank. Lots of likely pools below there but I've only run into trout there. Those dace are as deep bodied as roach! Give us a shout on Facebook!

Excellent Dave, you'll have me buying trotting gear next 😅
I did manage a few Grayling from the Lyd before the weather changed but not filmed. Our rivers are going to be washed out for a bit now, I fear.

I'm glad you managed a few ladies! Lyd looks like a beautiful river. Something very special about autumn, especially with a hatch! Yes, the water has certainly changed the game again, although around here, river fishing for silvers in winter tends to be better with run-off conditions, grayling better when it gets clearer. If I get out tomorrow I think it'll be a park lake job!! Still after my specimen roach!

I do fish many places small streams in woods but I never catch as many as you but that's fishing well done

      @soultrader57fishingandmusi25  2 месяца назад

There's better days and worse but the roach and dace tend to be in an area about the size of a bath towel! I only know from trial and error! 😂👍

Proper fishing this . Not manmade hole 4ft of water 3ft of fish ! . Cheating stick for a rod . Thats not fishing .
Lovely vid thanks fer sharing 😊👍🎣

Thanks ever so! Ha ha! Love the name "happydace" !😂
I did a video on dace years ago and titled it "best dace of our lives" even did a mock Bryan Addams song (summer of 69) with my own lyrics!
Yes, I don't touch commercials. If I'm going to struggle or blank, so be it! 👍👍

@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 😊👍thanks fer that . Yeah lovely fish the dace . Nice to hear you had a name play too with it . I think commercials are not necessarily a good thing fer kids either . Plastic fishing . Yes they catch loads of fish which I suppose is encouraging . But then , if they fish a place like your venue here and just caught a few proper wild fish ( not pets ) , they'd think they'd had a crap day and ' miss' the surroundings . Not to mention learning the stick & pin . Tight lines to you buddy 😊

Lovely, my favourite way of fishing small rivers with basic equipment and good watercraft. Sadly, ordinary match rods have largely given way to upmarket versions in the £100s, or power float varieties more suited to tench and specimen chub than roach and dace. Completely unnecessary for the task. My old Milo rod and the Auger "Machatta" centrepin reel, £8 off a market stall, have caught numerous roach on the stick float.

Thanks for that! Yes, it's difficult to find anything new that isn't expensive in that range, but thankfully, there's a few of this vintage around on the 2nd hand market.
I bought a 15ft trotting rod for bigger rivers, but it's slightly beefier, and with hooklength less than 2.5 lb BS, it's very easy to crack off on the strike!
Intend to give it an outing on the ribble soon. 👍👍
