My reviews are of the ship STOCK, when you purchase the ship on the store or in game. This means no upgrades were applied, nor do I typically discuss upgrades.
This video showcases the Anvil Terrapin, a deep space scout used commonly by the UEE. Does it have any advantages in the current version of Star Citizen? is it worth its price point now or down the road?
Let me know what you think in the comments below!
Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed!

The sensor dish is there with the seat because that design is from when the UEE Navy first formed. She is literally a first generation ship. Built with battleship armor, her main issue is, if you stay sealed up with the sensors on, she'll cook her crew. She's a 2 person crew because the crew are expected to hot bunk like on a wet navy sub with someone constantly manning the sensors with someone else sleeping, eating or performing maintenance

While I do see your point, since this is a video game I think it would be best to have two beds on a two person ship unless you expect your friend to only play while you sleep and vice versa. Real world applications don’t always translate to video games as well.

    • @NightlyWatch

Well maybe added beds could be for a different variant, because I like the fact that this is modeled and maybe an aftermarket mod could provide an excuse for an extra bed and amenities, but it shouldn't be all of them@@EvenLease44

This is one of my favorite ships. People love to say its functionality "doesn't exist" but I use all my ships for bounty hunting.
Something people don't realize is that HP means a lot more than shields. Shields you have, shields you lose. Shields are mostly the same all around for the same-size ships. And when they're gone, they're gone. But your ship's HP is what keeps you alive in the fight. And the Terrapin has LOT of HP.
It's a tanky little fucker, and its maneuverability is better than expected. Add to that the insane amount of laser ammo that you get, and you've got yourself a great PVE ship. I used it in PVP vs an Arrow and beat it.
Don't knock down ships based on "what they're supposed to do". Learn to PVP/PVE, and put every ship you have to the stress tests. You'd be surprised at what "do-nothing" ships are actually capable of doing out there.

  • @lottievixen
    @lottievixen 6 месяцев назад +7

had one, used it for bounties, it has such a deep weapon capacitor it can continuiously fire for a while.
the idea, i feel, with the terrapin is to sit somewhere kind of stealthily and scan, front line or behind enemylines recon hence the awesome heavy armor and little firepower, it just needs to be able to quantum out to safety, fast.
this deals with the single bed issue you raised, have your recon log on, provide reports and then perhaps leave the ship there after bed logging again.
as well as exploration that isn't a thing yet as you said, but this might be where you use two people, one scanner and pilot set off from a station enjoying a session together trying to find something.
my terrapin also sits in buyback.
    thanks for the video

The Terrapin's lore is insane, doing long duration recon deep behind enemy lines with its design focus centred around being sturdy with a tiny signature, even performing search and rescue and sustaining 8 people in space (iirc) for months while shuttling them back in friendly territory.
The interior is a massive failure, it's not well utilized at all and you just can't see how it could've achieved all those crazy stunts in the old times. The Terrapin doesn't even have a cargo variant when the entirety of its lore in adoption of the civilian public is mainly that.
The two seats should be side-by side or front to back and pressed much closer to the canopy to take less space, it should have a cargo grid in the center of at least 4scu, all the walls should be decorated with cargo netting representing a good interior storage for supplies (also for showing off its heritage as a military vessel), and there should be variants or modules to repurpose the interior, showcasing the versatility of this turtle. Beside possible variants I already pointed at, the Terrapin is also a dropship waiting to happen being a VTOL, apparently having an oversized life support, and wearing more armor than the Cutty Steel and the Valkyrie combined, it just needs a door gun and some jump seats.
Extremely wasted potential as I said.

In a military ship like that for 2 people, you would NEVER have both people sleeping at the same time. I would like to see the scanner seat taken out as well and the pilot given a remote scanning turret instead and something else done with that space, but I like the bed, bathroom, weapons and suit locker. The nose turret should also be upgraded to a quad turret instead of a twin. Other than that, it's a great little ship. It's got enough inventory space to do a little bit of loothing as well.

Well not many people have managed to do so i found a great use for it. I use the 890J as my home base and i leave it in space while i take other ships down to the surface to do mercenary missions or supply runs. With the armor and weapon racks it makes this a great little ship for a duo mercenary team to go do bunkers or take down pvp enemies anywhere on the surface of planets. It even has soace for looting throw a crate inside of it and your set. It also fits perfectly inside the 890J hanger

if they are going to make it where you swap out with a partner i would just make the ship have a fly or scan toggle mode and remove the middle seat. Then swap out the gun racks out for jumpseats with gun racks on the handles like the valkyrie.
Then move the suit locker into a compartment above the bed.
you basicly keep most of the ships function but now have a modular area where the gun racks are you can swap out for seats, medical bed ect and then the storage space over the bed and over the modular area can hold whatever supplies you need.

I was thinking they keep the shape design and everything else exterior wise, but I've seen the Polaris plating with those fancy inlays & I want them to detail the Terrapin's plating the same way, they could say that anvil bought the plating from RSI from an old Polaris hull and repurposed it for the Terrapin hence the dense armor!
Alternatively have it be an RSI Anvil co-creation maybe getting some of that RSI gear inside the interior giving it a little more love the lovechild of 2 great styles that I think would work great in conjunction if executed correctly so it would be the RSI A-Terrapin! or RSI-AT for short!

In the same way the Reclaimers claw changed, it'd be interesting if the seat controlled a drone, whilst the ship stayed safely in orbit. To teach players drone gameplay loop for when they're fleshed out for the Carrack and the Reclaimer.

I love the look. I think that's what everyone really appreciates. I bought one in game and use it for hostile bunkers because it can take a few hits as I circle around looking for a close landing zone. It doesn't really have a good future. It's not a good explorer compared to every other explorer out there. Speed is life. The Terrapin has no speed or offense. It also has no cargo to carry items. If it can be redesigned for what it's good at as an armored assault lander I think I'd actually buy it. But, it's a buy in game type of ship for now.

I'm definitely in it for the long haul, hopeful it gets a second bed for gameplay reasons (I agree that hot bunking doesn't make sense in a MMO) and we get the exploration gameplay to match what it's supposed to be capable of. Until then, it's hard to justify taking it out of the hangar. I thought about replacing mine with a Cutter Scout, but that ship almost has the same problem. It's got that dedicated scanning station in the back, only one bed, and doesn't even have an extra seat. Plus, can we fly use the scanner with the Cutter Scout effectively? Time will tell I suppose, but for now the Turtle stays.🐢

  • @RavingNut

  • @GorBane

The crew listed on the website and since it was released was one. It's supposed to be a solo ship, so having that second scanning seat at all is entirely unecessary. If they insist on keeping it after they revisit it, they need to change it to support 2 crew, or no one will actually use it. It's insane to think that a solo recon ship requires the pilot to leave the pilot seat and sit somewhere else to use what it's supposedly designed for.
I think, considering the purchase price of $220, the ship deserves to be able to perform it's role with a solo pilot without them having to get up and change seats. I guess I would be fine if they changed the ship to support 2 crew, but I bought it because it was a solo ship. I'll probably melt it down if they change the crew to 2 instead of keeping it solo. Maybe if they make a variant that is solo for another gameplay loop I'm interested in, I'll upgrade it to that.
That said, I love the Terrapin. As for the firepower, it's actually surprisingly good. Look at the ammo capacity for those repeaters. It can fire for a lot longer than most other ships, it's almost turret-capacitor levels. It's maneuverability isn't bad either, so you're able to keep constant pressure on whatever you're fighting. Two size twos can do decent DPS if you don't have to stop and wait for them to recharge every second or two. It's got good shields for its size as well, it's a turtle, after all. I don't own any dedicated combat ships ATM, so I usually use the Terrapin when I'm doing events or bounties. It's tough and it's got just enough bite to be able to noticeably contribute.
I do agree with you overall though. As much as I love the Terrapin, I would never recommend anyone buy it with IRL monies. It's an in-game purchase for sure. If you want to buy something similar with IRL monies, the Cutter Scout is actually probably the more useful ship of the two, for now at least. I do look forward to CIG revisiting the ship. It needs an update badly.

Hmm what if, (and bear with me on this) What if the Terrapin is meant for couples, maybe they plan to make it so you can share the bed... a couple in a recon ship sounds kinda romantic to me scouting through deep space alone on an away mission theres only one bed, one shower well, I guess you'll have to share! great for honeymoons and women love terrapins they're adorable!
