Finally. A clip of the Airplane with the best drummer they ever had: Spencer Dryden. Man he plays his ass off here. He quit not long after this and joined New Riders of the Purple Sage. R.I.P. Spencer. This is from the Director's Cut of the Woodstock dvd. Awesome!
I was born in the early 80s, and subjected to mid-90s music as a teenager. What I wouldn't give to have grown up with this music and been around for Woodstock. Say what you like about the 60s counterculture ideals - at least they had some
Classic!! I was 12 in 1969 and just beginning to REALLY get into Rock. Woodstock was almost a birth of the diversity that would take place in Rock beginning in the early 70's. Ahhh, the memories...
Wow .wake and bake up on a sunny saturday in the country hearing Grace slick saying good morning and than listening to the JA perform..that is heaven on Earth...PEACE
when i typed in woodstock in the search box i clicked this video and once they started playing their instroments i just knew this song would be AWESOME and it is! PEACE.
Could you imagine playing before more than 300,000 + !!!! (the other thousands of fans might not have heard it correctly). I wish I could have been there, but I was born on 13/8/69 near the Canadian/WA state border, therefore, I would have only been 3 days old. Wow...
this is early morning after a long night of constant killer music--when airplane did this it woke everyone back up--and the day was anew--water and good smoke was the priority of the moment--and of course a place to pee and possibly washup--but those things were minimal at best--hunger was secondary--people who were fortunate to be be here were willing to sacrifice a few days for this historic event--which only comes once in a lifetime--thankfully i was a fortunate soul that witnessed this .
i love the 60's! sometimes i feel the good vibes when i listen to those REAL rock n' roll bands!!! nowadays, the songs that we are used to watch on MTV they are so commercialized and "shity"! come back 60's!
These bands are true artists! I mean look at them, they had love for their music! They play and perform with so much passion. You don't get that anymore, artists now a day just make all the money they can, and throw a few grand or so to a donate! Either than that... I dont see artists like this anymore...
I am currently freaked out on pain meds and nerv medicine! gotta say.... the more stoned you are, The more you understand of the 60's 70's Fuck wish i was born 47... :P Peace out friends!
Were I to compare female legends of rock, I would pick a few people before her, but you know lists are sort of dumb. We are happy to have had people like Janis, Slick, Quatro, Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks, and the list goes on for a long time :)
YES....THE WHOLE GROUP HAD TAKEN ORANGE SUNSHINE ACID...DURING THE DAY....NOW IT IS SUNRISE,,,HOURS LATER AND EVERYONE IS STILL VIBRATING.......LOVE YOU ALL JERRY KISS YOU
Stuck in suburban Philly ... there were so many that couldn't get to see JA and be at woodstock ... everything was closed into the area. In more responsible hindsight ti was good that another million couldn't get there ... or it may have turned out differently. Grace ... was the 'Helen' of that time ... she herself probably even to this day doesn't realize the effect she had ... she shifted the center of a generation.
@MrEspenBakke I hear you. She has so much power and charisma in her performance. You can see how much she enjoys the thrill of being on stage. Man I wish I could've been there...
On this day in 1967 {June 3rd} Jefferson Airplane performed "White Rabbit" and "Somebody To Love" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand Two months earlier on April 1st "Somebody To Love" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it peaked at #5 and spent 15 weeks in the Top 100 And three weeks later on June 24th "White Rabbit" entered the Top 100 and would reach #8 and stay in the Top 100 for 10 weeks Drummer Spencer Dryden passed away on January 11th, 2005 R.I.P. Mr. Dryden & Mr. Clark
No one who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be disappointed... I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, they are for good and not disaster, to give you a future and hope. Jer 29:11
Totally agree with you man! That was culture! Today's culture is football, fast food, Justin Bieber. I wish we could go back to 60s culture, and have another Woodstock, at least for a week, just to experience what it was like. Sadly that culture is dead. Hippie culture is no longer as strong as it used to be. Oh man, those were good times. I wish I was growing up in the 60s, a cultural and musical revolution.
I remember people coming home from Vietnam, and playing Airplane records, and I remember Cronkite, "Heavy fighting in the Ashau Valley, 58 GI's killed, and always at least 3x Vietnamese, and NVA.
This is how bands played then. It was more like a practice; the guitarist would go off and do his thing, experiment. I played bass in a band, best time I ever had. When I was in high school I went to Ravinia, in Highland Pk, IL, to see Janis Joplin and Jim Croce live. It was the last time that conservative place had a rock singer for 30 yrs! she was great, there was no security, stood on a simple stage, sang like she was your neighbor, singing for friends. People were more emotional then
Couldn't have said it better myself. I do get tired of people who constantly whine about there being no good music. Which is true, if you limit yourself to what the corporate media spoon-feeds you. I would argue that the 1960s was the last decade where the great stuff got played on the radio, but there's always great music being made. You just usually have to go find it yourself and dig for it.
I thought this was a great performance no matter what they say about their state of mind. Tried to get into one of their concerts but there was a riot and it ended 'prematurely' ... standard for the time. Too bad Spencer is gone ... really loved his style on those skins.
i know it's been 12 years but was that concert with the riot in Akron Ohio at the Rubber Bowl? i read about it, Grace Slick and Paul Kantner both got arrested during the fights that broke out. those were the days.
I hope she comes to my home tonight and sings this song. I need to love someone. So I will open the door and let her in. Yes I will. Now, she sings really groovy. Neato.
actually her and the band were suppose to play on the saturday night of woodstock. A schedule messup put them on sunday morning to play morning maniac music. essentially they were tired and high from lack of sleep. they flew bands in by helicopter because roads were backed up with traffic. they were stuck partying by the stage all night. they sound great anyway.
The hippie movement evolved from the horrors of napalm in Vietnam. Young people sought some kind of escape from it through ideas of peace and love and of course really good LSD. The music was astounding too!
it's coming back though, i'm only 16 and have numerous friends that are interested in one or more aspects of the hippie culture. stay hopeful brothers and sisters ;)
Boy could they play then.......when music was music, people were real, etc
From an old hippie

When the truth is found to be lies and all the joy within you dies...
born 1988, I really really do wish I was alive in the 60s. Just to have been a part of the culture, deep in it, just would've been something else.
Grace sure had the looks to go with the voice....amazing band!!
I am currently freaked out on pain meds and nerv medicine! gotta say.... the more stoned you are, The more you understand of the 60's 70's Fuck wish i was born 47... :P

good to see this is still around. White Rabbit's gone because it's banned on RUclips.

о мой друг, мы увидем и побываем там в наших самых сокроаенных снах как минимум)

actually her and the band were suppose to play on the saturday night of woodstock. A schedule messup put them on sunday morning to play morning maniac music. essentially they were tired and high from lack of sleep. they flew bands in by helicopter because roads were backed up with traffic. they were stuck partying by the stage all night. they sound great anyway.

This version is even better than the original! What's wrong with this world nowadays is beyond me, people are just not the same...
"It's The New Dawn" - Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane lead singer)
Makes the heart go twang, and the head ripple.
incredible I love this song alive!
The hippie movement evolved from the horrors of napalm in Vietnam. Young people
sought some kind of escape from it through ideas of peace and love and of course really
