I was 14 when I saw this and it changed my life forever. Everytime I see him hold up that SG and let that C chord ring out...it still sends shivers through me.
LADIES AND GENTLEMAN...... THE WHO. The ending scene of the crowd is incredible. That audience is completely swept away, they were blown out of the water.

Yeah man it was a hell of an experience.I was there for the whole 3 day event just below the main stage.At the tender age of 16 my father was a carpenter/stage-hand for the festival and I was allowed to hang out close to the stage so my father could keep a close eye on me.Most my time was spent in the photo-pit and at the end of every set I was allowed to come up on the stage as my father worked to prepare for the next act.Amazing, I'll never forget it. Hoffman incident,haha funny as hell.
I'm glad I'm not alone...you just don't get that spontanious energy anymore when watching a performance. Glad we're lucky to experience it in this lifetime.
Incredible... I literally get awe struck every single time I hear and see this. It gave me the same feeling when I watched the video when I was 17 and I’m 24 now. The Who were the perfect set for this festival and give me a feeling of amazement every time I see this.

I found a 1969 SG special in a pawn shop in San Francisco around the late 80s for 400 bucks that is pristine. My main guitar as of yet and is so awesome... Got it because of Pete and a few other SG users LOL
More than an aimless blast of feedback. It’s a song ending and seems at tempo, very musical. It took me years to notice, but the the last four beats, and listen carefully, Townshend, Moon and Entwistle are locked in and play in unison. Incredible. Another day at work. I only wish Pete had launched his SG higher into the air ;^)
Actually I own that guitar! I keep it in the attic with the pen that Shakespeare used to write Hamlet and some moon rocks that Superman brought for me. The alien called Roger (who also lives in the attic) cleans them every Tuesday

Jesus christ can you imagine being there? Pitch black and you're watching this absolutely fantastic moment play out before you? Those clean chords that just ring out so beautifully... being there must have been an almost spiritual experience.
I'm going to ignore all the BS comments and say that this one moment in Woodstock history is monumental! I've watched so many videos of this epic music festival and this is the ONE moment I always come back to. When Townshend puts his foot up on Moons drum kit and strums those clean F,C,&G chords after all that distortion and HIWATT mayhem, that just says it all! Every year around AUG. 17th in the early morning hours, I listen to hear those chords echoing across these upstate NY hills, hopefully
Couldn't agree more with that description. Pete Townshend was extraordinary. His Stage performance was one of the greatest of all time. I love that guy's guitar playing. And Who else throws their guitar in the audience? Not Many. He Didn't even give a damn.

oh my god. my uncle just passed recently and he left me THIS EXACT GUITAR. as part of his estate. it was the best guitar we recovered from his estate. I'm ecstatic right now watching this video. I have to show this to My dad (HIs brother ) tomorrow*Edit* its a 1969 Gibson Cherry SG Special

Good news! The complete version of this is now featured in the bonus disc of the 40th. Anniversary of Woodstock. There's some great footage with newly discovered angles from the stage and you finally get to see what Pete actually does before he kneals down to the stage.

You can tell that maybe a couple of frames may have been damaged so they did a segment of him using a stop and go technique that films him from behind before he throws the SG up in the air and gets down on one knee. Very well worth the watch because this clip has him shot from many multiple angles not used in the final print of the film.

One day i'm going to put the Woodstock Doc/Movie on a home theater surround sound and blare it on a warm night in August. As i am stoned off my ass this part will come on and I will begin to weep knowing that i will never be able to be there no matter what i do, and then thank god that i was able to hear it.
The post-Beatles pre-Led Zep era (before they went huge) is in my opinion the greatest in rock`s history. It was the time when The Stones and The Who reigned the music and some best albums were created (Who`s Next, Let It Bleed)
Wow...and I thought I was the only one to make it out of Woodstock with a souvenir from the Who. No really...walked right out with three Hi-Watt heads and double stacks strapped to my Irish back. They now are in my living room and still work! Really! I play them every day and open the windows, causing multi-car wrecks and premature births from expectant mothers who spawn little townsends that I keep in my kennel to tame my three pit-bulls...yeah...that's the ticket. :)

It was I who caught the guitar.I will never ever forget what happened n how I became the owner of the 65 SG Gibson Standard.I tried n successfully made eye contact with Pete as he walked to the edge of the stage right n front of me as he raised the guitar over his head @0:40..At that point I thought he was going to destroy it which he normally does, but he didn't.He did his bit which u saw, walked back to the edge of the stage, made eye contact with me n gently tossed it into my outstretch arms

But hey, it's all good n was very cool statement. Perhaps the most memorable moment n all of Woodstock.

They (as a band) loved ending shows with that jamm in those days. The Isle of Wieght & The Coliseum concert clips have some rockin' examples of this progression. I knew the chords were forms of F,C,&G but now I know they are 9s. I love how the pinky & ring fingers stay on the high E & B strings and the the index & middle finger hit the roots

Absolutely legendary. That Gibson SG special guitar was later retrieved by a roadie. It's on display now.
