This was the opening song from the Prince movie 'Purple Rain' in 1984... it was what made Prince a superstar. The movie was filmed in Minneapolis, MN where Prince got his start playing the clubs and the plot was loosely based on his early life... The movie's antagonist was played by his real-life friend Morris Day, the lead singer of The Time... 'Purple Rain' depicted Prince as 'The Kid' who has his band The Revolution in the local Minneapolis scene... Onstage, he's a charismatic performer and songwriter... offstage, he still lives at home w/ his abusive dad who is a failed musician... Morris Day and The Time are portrayed as the big stars of Minneapolis, and Day does all he can to undermine 'The Kid' cos of his jealousy. 'The Kid' meets an aspiring singer Apollonia and their relationship reveals that 'The Kid' may have more negative traits in common w/ his dad than he thought possible... The 'Purple Rain' movie soundtrack became a massive hit, selling 13x platinum in the US alone... Prince did film a sequel movie 'Graffiti Bridge' in 1990 but it failed commercially... Another movie Prince did was 'Under the Cherry Moon' in 1986 which was also a disappointment at the box office. The incredible fact was that Prince played most of the instruments on his records - guitar, bass, drums, piano, synthesizers, etc. He was an all-round musician and he wrote songs at such a frantic pace that most of his work is still unreleased in his vault... One of his shelved albums 'Welcome 2 America' was recently released in 2021. He parted ways w/ The Revolution by 1986 and formed The New Power Generation (N.P.G.) which had a rotating cast of musicians and singers that would tour w/ him.

Prince is a Legend. I'm shocked you've never heard this. He was so very talented, taught himself to play many many instruments. This whole album is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Dude this album beat out Thriller at the Grammy's! Best album of all time. Every song was a hit 💜 So glad you're heading down this rabbit hole and loved your reaction ❤ Check out the movie so you can understand on the deep level!
The album Thriller won 7 Grammys in one night. It won for AOTY so Purple Rain didn’t beat Thriller. Btw, Thriller was released in 1982 and Purple Rain in 1984.
Omg! You haven't seen or listened to "Purple Rain". That album is one of the greatest album's ever. Not only was he a beast on the guitar buy he played most of the instruments. He made a couple of movies that were basically musically driven. He has so many bangers. You should watch the performance of "While my guitar gently weeps". With that many legends he stole to performance. More Prince and thanks for the content
My mom was the biggest Prince fan when I was a kid. I remember looking at her pictures from the Purple Rain tour concert in Providence. But what I remember most, was…anytime we were going somewhere we’d ask “mom where are we going?” Her reply was ALWAYS, annoyingly “Crazy, wanna come?” 😂
Purple Rain (1984) is coming to 4k disc and digital on June 25. So, this summer would be a great time to check it out! You definitely want to check out U Got The Look featuring Sheena Easton!
You could do a reaction to every song on the Purple Rain soundtrack and each one would be fantastic. There’s another legendary Minnesota group featured in the movie - Morris Day and The Time. They had two tracks featured in Purple Rain and were hits that did well Billboard’s charts: “Jungle Love” (#20 on Hot 100; #9 on Hot Dance; #6 on Black Singles), and “The Bird” (#36 on Hot 100; #6 on Hot Dance; #33 on Black Singles). Both are EPIC funk/pop/dance bangers that would be a blast react to (and for us to watch LOL) Keep doing what you’re doing, Pegasus - I enjoy your channel.

I officiated a friend's wedding. I had to write the speech the day before the ceremony and I had no idea what to say. I heard the intro to this song in my head and texted my friend "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life..." long story short, she liked it and her ceremony was filled with lyrics from random songs that I just spoke like a real ceremony. 🤣 The Beautiful Ones off of the Purple Rain album is one of the most epic love songs EVER!!! Chris Cornell's daughter once wrote that The Beautiful Ones was Cornell's favorite Prince song. You should definitely check it out. Also from the movie.
... you haven't heard it .... because you have not watched the movie "Purple Rain" .. where he plays every song from the album..... and he is the STAR !
Prince was a musical genius! Don’t think I can pick one favorite! Of course all the usual picks but I really love “Kiss”, “Raspberry Beret” and “Delirious” for a start! Glad you are looking into Prince! ❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
Yes Prince was in several movies, Purple Rain, Under the Cherry moon, Sign of the Times, Graffiti Bridge, and 3 Chains o' Gold. He was also featured in a few TV shows as himself.
Sign of the times was in graffiti bridge i dont think it was a movie of its own. I do think it was a longer playing music video though *Edit* i stand corrected after researching it you are correct thank you for your enlightenment 😊
Purple Rain was a HUGE success as a film. It even garnered excellent reviews from the top film critics of the day. The song "The Beautiful Ones" and its performance in the movie was singled out as the performance that convinced one major film critic that Prince was a talent and force to be reckoned with.
Prince won an Oscar and Grammy for Purple Rain Album from the movie "PURPLE RAIN" starring Prince. Purple rain is being re-released in June for it's 40th Anniversary.
He plays a young musician called the kid. The movie shows his struggles as a musician, falling in love, dysfunctional family life. Some say it's autobiographical. The hits from the soundtrack are Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, Let's go Crazy. But all the tunes are bangers. Album is great and the movie is great. Prince was a gift.
Prince's music just plain permeated the air. I never owned an album, or went to clubs, but know most of his songs. And so many were instant classics. Such a talented man.
The movie Purple Rain is semi-autobiographical, with there being numerous similarities in the life of the character "Kid" and Prince himself. It was made on the heels of his breakup with Vanity and Apollonia was cast to fill the part that was supposed to be hers. Prince refused to make another album after his 1999 hit unless he could make a feature film. This had to do with his rivalry with Michael Jackson. The movie won an Oscar for best original song score, and the album won a Grammy.
PURPLE RAIN i saw it in the theater in 1984 omg.. !!! PRINCE is everything! this was recorded live at First Avenue, a club in Minneapolis. this is the short radio version of the song. the longer version is much better!
“Uncle Prince” was the lead in Purple Rain. Please watch it. Then watch some Vanity and some Morris Day & the Time. Maybe watch Darling Nikki for members only.
I'm the 60 year aold grandmother that just commented about Lincoln Park. Purple rain was my husband and my first date. Once we played Prince for my kids my 13 year old son found darling Nikki. That was funny. Glad we were a forward thinking family.
I was 11 years old in 1984 when this was released. Me and my sister were encountering the best of 80's pop when we got "When Doves Cry" , which I believe was released first off of Purple Rain. Then this freakin gem of a song came along. It probably is top 2 from Prince for me. It just brings a lot of elements. Excitement, masculinity, the future, parties, the current 80's style and fashion, dance and last but not least, SEX. This song is all over the map. I just looked this up, Prince released 14 albums in 15 years. That is insane. From 1978 to 1992 the only year he didn't release an album was 1983. Which makes sense because if there is one album he probably spent a lot more time making, it is definitely "Purple Rain". Im pretty sure those are all new studio albums. It wasn't until 1993 that a Hits/ B-Sides triple album was released
Ok, so Purple Rain (the movie) didnt break any records or win any Grammys, BUT anyone who loved Prince or even grew up in the 80s and warly 90s...it is a must see!! Furthermore, you've gotta do Jungle Love by Morris Day & The Time!! They had a couple of good ones too!
I saw this movie a hundred times - guys from our school would let us in the theater’s side door. We would act out the song, I would die for you, in the theater. Annoying to others - I know, I am sure. We went to his concert and threw “stuff” onstage. We were so in love with him. You can imagine how wild his concert was. Purple Rain was autobiographical. Great movie. He was virtuosic, could play six instruments. It was like hearing Jimi Hendrix live. Yes, this was all from the movie. This was a great song - sexy like many of his songs.
Nothing compares to you, Prince featuring Rosie Gaines is one of my favorite Prince songs. KISS is another song from his movie Under the Cherry Moon. D.M.S.R is a song off his 1999 Album, another favorite…
Let’s Go Crazy and when Doves Cry are my favorite songs by Prince. His drummer Sheila E is one of the best drummers ever. Playing with Prince’s band made history in my opinion. There were female drummers before but all of a sudden I felt like the whole drumming world opened up for women.
Drum wise, she's phenomenal in my personal opinion. She'd go toe to toe with any drummer out there, regardless of who they are She's well known as a percussionist, but she's also a phenomenal singer as well..."Everyday People","What the world needs now"(cover I believe),A song called "Funky National Anthem" is an absolute MUST HEAR!
Yes all of that is from his movie purple rain. I saw him in concert several times. He had a whole bed on stage and it was very sensual. He just oozes sensuality and charisma
It's a real joy to see the younger generations discovering the genius that is Prince. Imagine growing up seeing him on MTV, live on American Bandstand or at a concert, rocking out to the radio and then DJ Kasey Kasem giving him props on the Top 40 air waves. The 80s and 90s were an incredible time to have grown up in. Gen X, Prince 4 ever!💜🤘🏼
Prince put out something like 14 albums in 12 years from 1978 to 1990. That included two Time albums where he went under an alias. During that stretch he also made two movies. Purple Rain and Under The Cherry Moon. He sold more albums in the 80's and 90's than any other artist. His problem is that he was a control freak over his material and how it was produced and got into a disagreement with his recording company which led to his changing his name to a symbol for awhile.
He has three, Purple Rain, Under the Cherry Moon, and Graffiti Bridge…Graffiti Bridge is out there, I actually saw all three in the theatre, but you gotta be a true Prince fan to appreciate Graffiti Bridge….
Okay you're "young," relatively speaking, Black P... so we won't "shame" you or anything lol! Actually... I'm "old" to you (so no gripes or judgements to you for not knowing) just how MASSIVE Prince was at the time for... the "Purple Rain" movie & soundtrack... or how when "When Doves Cry" first came out - (between the radio play at the time) and the "buzz" from the pending movie, "Purple Rain!?" 🤯 Bruh, you just don't know... and you would've have to be there at the time!! I am thankful to you (and other "Reactors" such as yourself)... for the journey back down "musical memory lane" for us! Keep on doing what ur doing... and keep this kind of music ALIVE! 🎤 🎼 🎶
The movie is called "Purple Rain", it includes stage performances from Prince and the Revolution, as well as Morris Day and the Time. There's also a sexy girl group lead by the fine young lady in this video (I think her name is Apalonia). My favorite Prince performance and song is "Darling Nicki", would love to see you react to that as well as the rest of the film.
Well, u can keep randomly hitting the ‘hits’, or u can go album to album, like we had to do when they came out. Every album is different. The Parade album is completely different than purple rain, as is Sign of the Times from The Rainbow Children. Going thru Prince’s discography is a journey for sure. He’s got a little somethin’ for every musical taste.
Here are a few popular cuts I recommend checking out … ‘Baby I’m a Star’ ‘The Beautiful Ones’ ‘Forever in My Life’ ‘Gett Off’ ‘Sexy MF’ ‘Diamonds and Pearls’ ‘Insatiable’ ‘Adore’
Purple Rain is the movie and he only had 1 woman in the movie, although it's said , that he always had more than one woman in his private life. Under the Cherry Moon is my favorite Prince movie.
I’ve seen so many concerts and in May 2014 I witnessed the ‘best’ performance: Prince. Everyone was on their feet the entire time. He is sooooo talented. He played multiple instruments and was so humble.
I love Prince. I saw him in concert in Manchester, UK, in 1990. So good. He was such an excellent musician, and on top of being a singer songwriting, he wrote music and could play the guitar, the bass, keyboards, and was acceptable as a drummer. He could do it all.
Yes, Purple Rain was a movie. The video is basically a cut from the movie. I would LOVE to see you go down a Prince rabbit hole. He was so incredibly talented, it's just a shame he passed so young.

She'd go toe to toe with any drummer out there, regardless of who they are
She's well known as a percussionist, but she's also a phenomenal singer as well..."Everyday People","What the world needs now"(cover I believe),A song called "Funky National Anthem" is an absolute MUST HEAR!
OMG Purple Rain! 😮 cant believe you dont know!❤❤
The full uncut version from the movie is freaking amazing. As an old school metalhead, I absolutely loved it. Genius. RIP.
And Under the Cherry Moon…Great soundtrack!!!
WHAT??? I am beyond shocked! My son is 30 and he knows and has seen PURPLE RAIN. Yes, it's a move, yes, it's a whole album/CD of mega hits!
This is my all time favorite of Prince's songs!
LET'S GO! :) I'm halfway there.... *giggles* party anthem I can't believe you are just now getting to!
Let's Go Crazy is my fave Prince jam. Something to check out is his Superbowl XLI Halftime show - the best Superbowl halftime show EVER!
A beast
Little Red Corvette is my favorite Prince song.
He has three, Purple Rain, Under the Cherry Moon, and Graffiti Bridge…Graffiti Bridge is out there, I actually saw all three in the theatre, but you gotta be a true Prince fan to appreciate Graffiti Bridge….
My husband to be when I was a teenager !!!i LOVED Prince💜💜💜
I can't wait to see more of your Prince reactions. He has so many great songs, the rabbit hole gets deep !!
Yes, Purple Rain the movie. He’s plays himself. You should really check it out! 🙂👍✌️
I saw this beautiful man 3 times and I will love him 4ever💜💜💜 since your wife just gave you a beautiful daughter you should react to ADORE by Prince.
The movie "Purple Rain" also has Morris Day and the time. Check out their song "Jungle love"
He is in two movies Purple Rain and Underneath The Cherry Moon.
Also Graffiti Bridge and his concert film, Sign O' the Times ☮️
Also Graffiti Bridge and his concert film, Sign O' the Times ☮️

‘Sexy MF’
‘Diamonds and Pearls’
‘Insatiable’
‘Adore’
So many great songs on the Purple Rain soundtrack too!
Purple Rain is the movie and he only had 1 woman in the movie, although it's said , that he always had more than one woman in his private life. Under the Cherry Moon is my favorite Prince movie.
I've had the pleasure of seeing Prince in concert twice here in Ireland and both times were amazing !!!
This is the song that made other guitarists stop and take notice of Prince as a guitar player
Hands down my favorite Prince song. 😎
he had the number one ablum, movie and song in the world .the album was number 1 for 32 weeks.
It’s from Purple Rain ☔️ 💜
