@@vbvermont The video was made to the 3:48 "7-Inch Single Edit" - pop radio isn't going to play a 7 minute song, so most longer songs are edited down to 3-4 minutes max. MTV videos were generally the same, with a handful of exceptions like the Thriller video, and even then, after it's first run, an edited, shorter version is usually what's played. Even the album version of Let's Go Crazy (4:38) isn't the full-length version from the movie, but the full-length (7:35) "Special Dance Mix" version was originally released on 12" in '84 (which I own) and a few years ago on the Purple Rain "Deluxe Expanded Edition" CD set.
It was everything! All the musicianship that was genius. Plus, pure charisma. The clothes, the movement, manner of speech, swagger. All of it. He had it all and it was new and unique. It's funny...but I still think of him as new. Created his own indefinable genre.
He was ahead of the curve in MANY ways. Not only is there an entire "sound" named after him: Minneapolis Funk; but he was the first to have downloadable music on the internet, he pushed so many boundaries and had no fear about it, even standing up for recording artists' rights in their bad deals with the music label execs. This is why some people think he was murdered and that the "fake prescription drugs" he had in his possession were purposely there...and also, since this is "Let's Go Crazy" - he did die in an elevator....think about THAT. "Are we gonna let the elevator break us down?"
One of the most underrated guitarist of all time, he could legit shred! So glad i got to see him in person, his shows were always amazing, and he sounded epic live just like he does in a recording! Only thing that surprised me about him when i saw him was how tiny he is, i'd guess maybe 5'3-5'4 tops, maybe 110-120 lbs. , or at least thats what he looked like. True legend!
YES, Prince is one of the all-time greats on guitar. My girl asked me when he passed why Prince was so highly regarded. I said "because when Prince walked into a party filled with people who were the BEST at what they did musically; sing, guitar, bass, dance, composition, they all knew he was better than they were at what they did best".
Prince is the most under-appreciated artist of his generation. Aside from his own incredible catalog, he wrote monster hits for so many other performers. He was an elite guitarist and played basically all the instruments on many of his recordings.
I don't know how you can say he was underrated. He was one of the biggest musical stars ever and his instrumental expertise was well known. He deserved every praise and there were many.
This song has multiple guitar solos you didn't hear because of the radio/video edit. Also, the gospel intro is longer. Just be sure to listen to it on your own time because it's part of the legend of Prince's musicianship. His dancing, clothing, and attitude are epic, too. I understand. ❤
Prince is the GOAT. One of the greatest guitarist, musicians of all time. He composed, produced, played most instruments on all of his albums. Legendary!!
You must see Tom Petty, Steve Winwood & Jeff Lynn's live version of George Harrison's WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS. Prince absolutely rips it up on guitar! Classic!
And, my dears, Prince played EVERYTHING. A musical genius. I believe he played every instrument on his first album... and a previous comment mentions that he mastered 27 instruments.
While Prince was a BADASS, He didn't play sax or trumpet.. He left those tasks to Eric Leeds, Eddie M., Maceo Parker, the Hornheads, and the NPG Horns. Peace.

"Let's Go Crazy" followed "When Doves Cry" as the 2nd single released from Prince's 1984 movie "Purple Rain." Altogether, 5 singles were released from the LP. "Let's Go Crazy" hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (2 weeks), #1 on the the R&B/Soul chart (1 week) and #1 on the Dance chart (1 week) just as "When Doves Cry" had peaked @ #1 on all 3 charts - except "WDC" stayed @ #1 longer on each chart (Hot 100 = 8 weeks, R&B/Soul = 5 weeks & Dance = 6 weeks. The "Purple Rain" LP was Prince's peak just as "Thriller" was for Michael Jackson.

Prince was a BEAST on guitar - I've seen a few interviews with heavy rock artists who've gone to see Prince live on a whim, thinking they had him all worked out as an eccentric pop artist, and been floored by his music chops. Listening to his full discography you realise what a scary gifted man he was. Prince was a multitalented supernova of an artist and very smart business man. On every level he was a rebel, and was not afraid to be himself. We will not see his like again.
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is incredible but the back story is even better. Tom Petty actually said out loud with someone present to hear it that: "Prince didn't have the chops to play the lead on this song".....knowing this was said, watching Prince play this solo was so awesome & gratifying to watch. Prince was so fantastic.
Thats funny if its true, it makes sense because prince stares at petty with a listen to this look. Petty keeps thinking he is gonna stop it seems like and prince keeps on shredding then walks off at the end.
He didnt even practice with them. It was Dhanni Harrison that seen him and asked him if he wanted to do anything. Prince humbly said he wasn't asked and didnt want to impose. It was Dhanni who got him out there for the song and boy did he blow the other guitar virtuosos out of the water.
Really?? That's unbelievable if it's true. Surely someone of Tom Petty's stature would have known that Prince was a master guitarist? How could he possibly think that Prince wasn't up to the job??
Ah, the eighties. Prince was one of the musical bright spots in that decade for sure. That Purple Rain soundtrack was great from start to finish. I have it somewhere on cassette, might have to dig it out and see if it still plays.
@@LiberalsArePoop That could be a lot of fun. There are a lot out there. They love Johnny Cash - "Ring of Fire' by him, then the Home Free cover would be another one. Happy Birthday Prince!!!!!!!! RIP you are truly missed. I went to his concerts starting when I was 14. Prince blew me away playing the guitar and the piano. I love his music so much that I can't pick a favorite.
Second hit from Purple Rain. The guitar solo is what really opened people's eyes in those days. The multiple synth layers that you guys noticed is a part of the Minneapolis sound that he pioneer. He started that stuff.
And this is the radio (single) edit of the song. The album version has the complete "church" intro. Two other videos where he plays killer solos are "I Could Never Take The Place of your Man," and "Batdance." You should also watch him with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Dhani Harrison and others during the George Harrison Rock And Roll Hall of Fame induction, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."
Look for the video for “while my guitar gently weeps”, it’s a live performance from when he went in the rock n roll hall of fame. Tom Petty sings vocals and Prince cones in with the most epic solo at the end of the song
Prince is probably the most underrated guitarist of all time because, IMHO, he was the heir to Hendrix. He was the evolution of Jimi Hendrix melded with some James Brown and some Miles Davis. Whenever I see GOAT guitar player lists I rarely see Prince crack the top 10 and, again IMHO, he was AT LEAST TOP 3 and probably #2 just a hair behind Jimi.
I saw Prince twice in concert and this was always a fun song at the concert with the whole crowd screaming “oh no let’s go!” The next Prince song you guys do needs to be “Kiss.”
Prince was a true genius. I am still so upset that he died so young. The first time I saw him live in concert was in the early '80's before Purple Rain. His opening acts Vanity 6 and Morris Day and the Time did their thing, he came out and made love to a bed on stage, it was wild. Saw him live 5 more times, no one can compare to his talent. Watch his live performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction of George Harrison doing While My Guitar Gently Weeps with Tom Petty, Steve Winwood and other greats. It's insane.
I was fortunate to see Prince in concert three times over the years...the first being the Purple Rain tour. Every time he left me in tears. Absolute musical genius.
I think a lot of people get caught up in the “Prince” of it all. The showmanship, the theatrics, the sheer unadulterated magnetism but Prince Rogers Nelson was a musical genius. The man played 27 instruments and most of those were self taught. His first few albums, he wrote, produced, sang and played literally every single note. Prince was one of the best musicians of his generation. Full Stop.
Prince was so insanely talented, his writing and singing abilities were incredible and he mastered many different instruments aside from the guitar. A true one man band if he wanted to be

Is that the truth?! I was graduating from high school when Purple Rain came out and got to go to the concert at the St Paul Civic Center in Dec of 84. To this day, no musical experience could ever compare. I was in some kind of ecstatic trance. He was magical. He was ours.
Prince will forever be on top. He was a true, literal, musical genius on various instruments, mechanical and digital platforms. He wrote, produced and performed every single instrument in his first one or two albums, thanks to his never "doing" anyone but himself (u kno, u do u 😏) I'm sorry y'all didn't get to experience his talent in the 80's. Me, your mom and millions of others were drawn to his magnetism and got hooked. I'm thankful that he shared his musical talent and love of performing 😉 RIP Purple One

Prince is one of those once in a lifetime artists. singing songwriting and performing. Don;t forget he can play all instruments for a rock band (and probably many more). Does not get much credit for his guitar playing, but as you can see can absolutely shred on the guitar. Thank gods you have the correct version of this. @Jay somewhere there is a universe where Hendrix and Prince went at it back and forth.... I wish I lived in that universe. Wait if you all ever see or react to songs from or the movie Sign O the Times watch him play Drums amazingly. the g.o.a.t.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. This is still a free speech country (for a little longer). On the other hand, if it’s okay for you to put your opinion, I can do the same. Thanks for your reply.
People that have been long time Prince fans already know, but for those that don't Prince is a true musical virtuoso. By that I mean he is one of the few that can pick up any instrument and not only be able to play it, but can easily master it. He is a fabulous singer, guitarist, percussionist, pianists, strings, woodwinds and many more. Not only that, but most of his studio albums were completely done by him. He played every instrument and also mixed and produced that final product. The myth, the man the legend. Prince Nelson Rogers. RIP❤.
I had a coworker back in the 80’s and she loved Prince! I think of this story every time I hear Prince. He was playing in a gymnasium and she was in the bleachers. She knew which door he was going to come through and she was hanging upside down off the bleacher railing. He gave her his beret. Her face lit up as she was telling the story. Can you imagine seeing him in a school gym? Amazing!

There are musicians who are masters of their chosen instrument, singers with incredible voices, and those from both sides who are also talented composers. And then there's Prince Rogers Nelson, who is undoubtedly one of the best consummate musicians ever heard. From the many instruments he played, to his amazing vocal abilities, to his vast library of compositions spanning and merging several genres, the man truly was a modern musical genius. I will always be saddened that we lost him too early.

Don't forget Jeff Lynne from ELO, a legend as well.
everybody is talking about that video today 😊😊 I agree they MUST react to it! ❣️😃👍
The actual intro in its entirety:
"Dearly beloved. We are gathered here today to get through this thing we call Life. Electric words and life means forever and that's a mighty long time. But I'm here to tell you, there's something else. The Afterworld. A world of Neverending happiness. You can always see the Sun. Day or night. So when you call up that shrink in Beverly Hills, you know the one, Dr. Every-thing-will-be-alright. Instead of asking how much of your time is left, ask him how much of your mind baby. Because in this life, things are much harder than the Afterworld. This life, you're on your own. So when the elevator tries to bring you down, GO CRAZY!
Thanks for posting this. That intro is ICONIC.
They should hear the entire version to appreciate it!!
Not sure why the full intro wasn’t included in the version they reacted to. Shame!
I came here to post that, glad you beat me to it. Lol. They should never cut that part out. Never....
You forgot basketball and pancakes...lol.
......better. at all? No, but so skilled in such a variety, and yes a beast on the guitar
@@mwfmtnman C'mon man, a little poetic license. She was mesmerized and I nailed the point. It was fun for everyone!
He was also the guy who could walk into a party and leave with your girlfriend. Or boyfriend 😅
@@matthooks5840 Or just become your boyfriend
Prince is the most under-appreciated artist of his generation. Aside from his own incredible catalog, he wrote monster hits for so many other performers. He was an elite guitarist and played basically all the instruments on many of his recordings.
No Prince is appreciated. Like your nuts dude. He was a maga star. what are you talking about
I don't know how you can say he was underrated. He was one of the biggest musical stars ever and his instrumental expertise was well known. He deserved every praise and there were many.
Fun fact.. Prince played all the instruments on his first album..27 of them! Boom! Such a talent!!!
He actually could play over 20 instruments by the time he was 12 years old
Oh yes! Imagine going through middle and high school listening to Prince! Great memories in one of the best music eras of all time!
He doesn’t have an unlikeable song, every song he has is pure epic
J & Amber, you'll love his "Delirious" and "Kiss" !!!! A multi-talented, multi-instrumentalist!!
They need to see Kiss for the comedy alone
Then they need to see Tom Jones rendition of KISS to compare!! (Since Amber really likes TJ)
They are not ready for Kiss. 🤣
@@dipsydoodle7988 😁You may right!
Purple Rain is a must for your movie channel! This is an awesome song that shows his guitar skills. Your faces were priceless!! Thanks for this one!
ABSOLUTELY! "While my guitar gently weeps" Tom Petty, Prince, Jeff Lynne & others just kill it on stage. Must watch
I do believe it was actually 36 instruments
I didn't realize there are 27 instruments
While Prince was a BADASS, He didn't play sax or trumpet.. He left those tasks to Eric Leeds, Eddie M., Maceo Parker, the Hornheads, and the NPG Horns. Peace.
Forgot Atlanta Bliss on Trumpet. . .
"Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today

That's what he said at the opening of the song. 💜
And so much more.... Wish they had done the extended version.

Prince is one of the greatest guitarist in Rock and Roll history
One of, right up there with Hendrix & Van Halen
When he did purple rain at the Superbowl and it was pouring rain, he had two beautiful women as back up dancers that were wearing 8 inch heels on a stage that looked like glass dancing in the rain. Amazing
This whole soundtrack was in my car at all times. He's been overlooked as a guitarist but not by his peers-they knew. His band,singers/dancers were top notch too.
Watch his Superbowl halftime show & the short film about behind the scenes...he impressed people on all levels as a pro.
I think Amber would love The Most Beautiful Girl in the World--slow but sweet.
THE best Super Bowl half time show EVER! 💜💜💜💯
The Prince Guitar solo on the Rock Hall of Fame tribute performance of George Harrison's song "While my guitar gently weeps" is legendary.
Prince can wail on a guitar. You should react to the George Harrison tribute "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". He kills it. Probably his best guitar performance.
i love it. I have watched it a thousand times and will watch it a thousand more lol. I think it is one of (if not the) greatest guitar solos of all time.
His performance at the Super Bowl, in the rain, is rather... very very good !
( and his " press conference " just before...) ;)
Prince is my favorite Musician. He should be VERY high up on a list of top guitarists of all time.
THE PURPLE ONE! such an iconic and talented musician, entertainer, actor, singer/song writer. the man was a phenomenon. i loved him back then. I love him still today. Thank goodness we have his body of work to forever enjoy and remember him by. thanks Jordan and Amber. still watchin ya and diggin it. stay cool. go with God. peace and love, y'all. see ya on the next.
If you want a softer, more emotional side of Prince, I'd recommend "The Beautiful Ones". His vocals, and passion in that one, is mind blowing!
For me, Prince's most mind blowing performance, bar none!!
I agree its a Great song and the Man was a Genius
My absolute favorite ruclips.net/video/sflbBP1cywM/видео.html 😍😍😍😍 totally agree with you
The beautiful one's is in my top 3. Love it in the movie 💜
Yes I agree they should listen to "The Beautiful Ones"
Prince's guitar solo on the live version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is IMO, the greatest guitar solo of all time...
I love you two, you're my favorite musical explorers!
Happy Birthday to your daughter, take care and thanks again for sharing your life and this amazing musical journey with us.
We wish you you all the success in the world, or as much as you can stand, lol ..
Insanely brilliant our Prince was. I keep forgetting he’s gone. Bless you for keeping his memory going. That’s exactly what he wanted ❤
I hadn't heard what TOM PETTY said before the show. I know in interviews afterwards he spoke of him with reverence. 👍😃❣️
Tom Petty is petty and an ahole. Jealous I guess. Tom couldn't carry Prince's guitar pick to the venue.
Ah, the eighties. Prince was one of the musical bright spots in that decade for sure. That Purple Rain soundtrack was great from start to finish. I have it somewhere on cassette, might have to dig it out and see if it still plays.
I really recommend that you watch Prince's "Kiss", then follow it with Tom Jones' cover of it. Two of your favorites!
I've previously recommended that they do an original and then a popular cover back to back. There are so many that can be done.
Oh yeah, Prince's version is incredible and then Tom Jones' cover with Art of Noise gives it an electronic twist. Both are so so good!
@@LiberalsArePoop That could be a lot of fun. There are a lot out there. They love Johnny Cash - "Ring of Fire' by him, then the Home Free cover would be another one. Or Johnny Cash doing "Tennessee Flat Top Box" then Rosanne Cash's version. Personal verdict on these - Johnny Cash version of "Ring of Fire", Rosanne's version of "TFTB".
Happy Birthday Prince!!!!!!!! RIP you are truly missed. I went to his concerts starting when I was 14. Prince blew me away playing the guitar and the piano. I love his music so much that I can't pick a favorite.
I always wanted to see Prince live, but never did 💔 Thank heavens that the world has all the videos of the stars we love 💕😻😻🇨🇦
RIP sweet Prince.
What a talent!
Singer,songwriter and fantastic guitar player!
I just can't believe you haven't heard this before.
Prince is a virtuoso in ALL instruments . HE plays so many instruments he's unhuman !!
As mentioned on this thread ... Prince takes that tribute to Georgia Harrison, ‘As My Guitar Gently Weeps’ and OWNS it!!!
A true one man band if he wanted to be
That ending guitar solo turns a song into an experience. Greatness!
LOOK up Prince's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame performance with All the performers that were Honoring George Harrison's Song "While my guitar gently weeps" Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne & Steve Winwood all performed together with Dhani Harrison & Prince shows up towards the end with an incredible solo 2004 Induction Ceremony
Yes you have to see his tribute to George Harrison While My Guitar Gently Weeps among his peers. Prince took it over and made it his own. 💓💓💓💓💓💓
Prince is still considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time. He was a genius musician in every category. Thanks!
Being in high school in the Twin Cities in the 80's, Prince was actually the king! First Avenue was a blast when he played there.
Is that the truth?! I was graduating from high school when Purple Rain came out and got to go to the concert at the St Paul Civic Center in Dec of 84. To this day, no musical experience could ever compare. I was in some kind of ecstatic trance. He was magical. He was ours.
OMG I can only imagine.
This was a huge favorite at our high school dances.
Prince will BLOW YOU AWAY on guitar if you check out While My Guitar Gently Weeps with Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne on vocals and Prince on guitar. Truly one of the best and most underrated guitarists ever. 🎸🎸
“Darling Nikki” and “Erotic City” are great songs by Prince. Prince was naughty! 🤓
I just REALLY listened to the words to “sister” recently. When I tell you baaaaabaaay…whew.
He just spoke about things no one else wanted to discuss, and you should really listen to his songs, such as I would Die for you:
I’m not a woman
I’m not a man
I am something that you’ll never understand …
No need to worry
No need to cry
I’m your messiah and you’re the reason why …
I’m not a human
I am a dove
I’m your conscience
I am love
All I really need is to know that
You believe
Yeah, I would die for you, yeah
Don't forget about P**** Control and Cream. ;)
This song was my introduction to Prince way back in 1984. That whole Purple Rain album is a masterpiece! And to echo everyone else on here, check out While My Guitar Gently Weeps with Jeff Lynn, Tom Petty and Prince. He doesn't sing a word, but the guitar sings it for him. FIRE!
Oh, and check out the movie Purple Rain.
Oh my gosh I love your face when he started to shred! That was so funny! Prince is one of the most underrated guitarist in history! He truly was a genius
Omg prince is amazing on the guitar love it and his presence on stage was one of the best 🔥🔥
I saw Prince perform live, and believe me the energy is real, and his vocals are like the records. A truly great artist.
One of our countries national treasures gone way too soon. He brought the cool factor to the n’th degree!!!! A musical genius.
You need to react to Prince, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne etc doing While My Guitar Gently Weeps, it really shows himgoing wild on guitar
There is a radio version that pretty much completely cuts out the solo at the end. Also watching him on the Geroge Harrison song While my guitar gently weeps from the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. He was an Amazing talent. Purple Rain one of the best albums ever!
@Jay somewhere there is a universe where Hendrix and Prince went at it back and forth.... I wish I lived in that universe. He played every instrument I mean EVERY INSTRUMENT at a master level. 90% of what is on a album he did by himself he was a total perfectionist. Wait if you all ever see or react to songs from or the movie Sign O the Times watch him play Drums amazingly. the g.o.a.t.
I was lucky enough to see Prince in concert!! Awesome!! He could play any instrument!!! Genius!!
One of the most talented artists that ever did and ever will draw a breath on this earth RIP Prince
One of the greatest guitarists of the rock era. He is missed for many reasons not the least of which was his guitar playing.
lol no. this solo was awesome. but tons of others did this day in and out. every song. every album. every tour. and some rose to the top and its not fucking prince. i LOVE prince. but this is a bad take.
Amazing!
The hype is beyond real…..This is the only artist I have ever had a crush on and was lucky enough to have seen him 7 times in concert. Phenomenal artist, musician, and performer….There will never be another Prince…..RIP
This entire album is sooo good. I used to listen to all of it, over and over again. So when this song ended, just now, I literally heard the intro to the next song in my head ("Take me with you"). The song that follows that one is called "The Beautiful Ones". It is incredible! Try not to pause during the last half of the song (the beautiful ones) bc it's so intensely great.
Yeah, he was an incredible musician. I had the same reaction you did when this came out. He was heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana. If you want to see more, he played on a great version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and does a great version of "Play That Funky Music"

Eric Clapton was asked one time “what’s it like to be the greatest guitar player alive?” and he said “I don’t know, you need to ask Prince”. Prince played all of the instruments on his albums. He was a pure genius and had all of the quirks that often come with being a genius
