@joannethompson5224 No one could ever buy their way into heaven. Only when one admits their sinful condition. Believes (has Faith) that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and shed his blood on the cross for the forgiveness of sins. When one has faith (believes) in the finished work that Christ Jesus completed on the cross. When one believes (has Faith) that Christ rose from the dead on the third day. Repents (changes their mind) and asks God/Jesus Christ for the free gift of eternal life - to know him (Spirit to spirit. One must be born again, born of the Spirit (Holy Spirit), born from above. Read your bible (the gospel of John chapter three.) No religion needed. Just faith, faith plus nothing.

Studio version next. Stairway to Heaven was constantly listed in yearly countdowns in the top 3 songs of all time for decades. That's because the studio version was perfection. I saw Led Zeppelin back in 1971 in the Ulster Hall, Belfast. That was actually the first time they performed this new song ,"Stairway" live at the beginning of a tour.Lord Of the Rings was being read by many of us back then so you can see the lyrical influence in some of Zep's songs such as this one.The Irish Troubles were just under way and would continue for nearly thirty years and Belfast was not too safe, with murder everywhere , but the band came anyway and were much appreciated for performing for us hippies in something of a war-zone. More recently I actually met Robert Plant after seeing his own band a few times in Belfast and had a great conversation behind the scenes about all sorts of things(Did you know he fancied being a stone-mason?).A couple of us were guests of his keyboards wizard John Baggot ,so we had a very special all-access time .Referring to the Belfast gig fifty years ago when I was nineteen he said...I was only twenty -three myself ... and we hardly knew what we were doing back then!!

Thank you Jay and Amber for doing this timeless classic. Like so many people, I have heard this song a thousand times, but watching your reaction made it new for me again. You can't really go wrong with Jimmy Page solos, but here are a few that I think stand out. Some you may have already heard:
"Heart Full of Soul" (live, as a member of the Yardbirds)
    "Good Times, Bad Times"
    "Communication Breakdown"
"I Can't Quit You Baby" (check out the "live" version from the 'Coda' album!)
    "Hearbreaker"
    "Since I've Been Loving You"
    "Celebration Day"
    "Out On the Tiles"
"Black Dog" (I think you have done this one, but it never gets old)
    "Rock and Roll"
    "Traveling Riverside Blues"
    "The Song Remains the Same"
"Over the Hills and Far Away"
    "No Quarter"
    "Custard Pie"
"Kashmir" (check out the live version from the 1979 Knebworth Festival!)
    "Achilles Last Stand"
    "For Your Life"
    "Nobody's Fault But Mine"
    "Tea For One"
    "In the Evening"
"One Hit (to the Body)" (guest spot with the Rolling Stones)
"Scarlet" (guest spot with the Rolling Stones)
"Heaven Knows" (Robert Plant solo from 1988)

My interpretation of the hidden meaning of this song. But first the lyrics to the song, which are followed by the interpretation:
    There's a lady who's sure
    All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to Heaven
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Ooh ooh and she's buying a stairway to Heaven
There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook
    There's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
    Ooh, it makes me wonder
    Ooh, it makes me wonder
    There's a feeling I get
When I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking
    Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it really makes me wonder
And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn
    For those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
    Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by
    But in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on
    And it makes me wonder
Your head is humming and it won't go
    In case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow?
    And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all, yeah
To be a rock and not to roll
And she's buying a stairway to Heaven
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My interpretation of the hidden meaning of this song is below:
He is singing about Satan (the Piper), calling you to join him, and he will lead you to [his] truth.
Stairway to Heaven = a reference to eternal life in the abode of God and the angels, traditionally depicted as being above the sky.
The stores are closed, but the (the May Queen) = those who must be pure in their seeking, those who seek to be a "Rock" (a god), can get what they want with a word (submission to Satan), it can't be purchased with money or in a store.
Words have two meanings = Satan's truth can be a lie, and earthly riches (gold) can make you poor (spiritually dead)!
Forests = those of this fallen world.
Whispering wind = (Satan has the authority of the air) and uses music and the media, and your stairway (to Heaven or godhood, depends on his words).
May Queen = symbolized as the woman of purity (One seeking godhood, or their own truth, while denying or rejecting the True God, Yahweh, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).
Songbird = (Artist used by demonic forces) is a bird that utters a succession of musical tones (Words or songs with double meanings and secret meanings, which are suggestions from the Piper (Satan).
The Piper = (Satan) is ultimately teaching [his] truth, which is saying when "All Are One, And One Is All" (Globalism/Ecumenicalism), you can be a "Rock" (a god), which is the same lie told to Eve in the garden, where one can determine their own truth, their own right and wrong, good and evil...and not "roll" (die)!
The lie of Satan led to the fall of mankind, but truth and salvation are found only in Jesus Christ.
Jesus said, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." (John 10:10 NASB).
    Blessings, †

And then there's John Paul Jones.
A lot of people miss his contribution in their compositions. I think this really shows off JPJ's complete skill as an artist of the highest order. Jimmy, Robert, and John, know they are painting on someone else's canvas, and they are only adding masterful highlights with the greatest respect for the work of art they get to add to.

Paige did a retro on this song, looking back you could see everything from artistic excitement to reality regrets in his face, while he held it together. But he emphasized that the idea was to make it progressively seem like the tempo was gradually speeding up, when really it was not. It was still 4/4 timing with the same BPM.
It is also said by them that the song sort of wrote itself before them, when pen went to paper. See also his dealings with the occult, the tragedies that followed, and then go and play it backwards. We did it on vinyl when I was 10- it was crazy scary what words came out. That's all I'm going to say about that. But please, do try The Battle of Evermore.

Meet Mr. Jimmy Page!!! He is AWESOME INDEED!!! Led Zeppelin was before my time when they made their legendary mark on Rock & Roll. But my brother introduced me to them. I've listened to them ever since. I've become voracious finding out more and more information on Led Zeppelin and how they became a band, how they broke up and why. I want to know how such brilliant minds and perfect talent were able to shake the Rock & Roll world and their songs now timeless. Loved your reactions. I get goosebumps every time I hear that song, studio or live version. Peace ✌

For you guys it has been hard to really comment on Stairway for you because I really want to put things right.
As a teen I listened to Stairway all the time and it was the soundtrack to my high school years.
Because we only had albums and rock magazines to see what the bands were like I always saw Led Zeppelin, my band, as one unit. The blend of all 4 together who did amazing work.
As an older adult I've come to appreciate them individually - especially showcased in Kashmir and Stairway.
JPJ I have seen as the unsung hero of the group. The guy who could play any instrument and was the one who was able to give us the special effects or feeling of a full on orchestra behind the band depending on the song. Plus the bass. He was the multi talented, quiet one who gave us so mwasuch.
Jimmy Page was the maestro of the band. The guy who along with the manager Peter, created it out of whole cloth in a matter of weeks to fullfill both a contract for the yardbird and a vision he had of a band. Jimmy has also been probably in the top 3 or 5 people ever of guitar gods. The GOATS of guitar.
Robert Plant has the pure voice for blues. He really shines when he does the blues. But, he also has done some of the most epic and stand alone singing of such song as Kashmir and Stairway that take you on a journey away from where you are and floating on a sea of forever. His is the voice of not just rock but, of dreams.
But, lately I have come to really appreciate Bonham more the I used to. His drumming is what was the foundation to the Zeppelin machine. He was the heart. And without him the band cannot do what it is legendary for doing. It just cannot find their voice or groove. Watch clips from their performance at Live Aid. They were good but, seemed off. Like they were off. The heartbeat was not there.
Until a young man grew up enough and got some experience under his belt to be able to play with Zeppelin. Not just with but, be a part of the group. Bonham's son Jason.
That was how important John Bonham was. And their manager Peter -cant' remember his last name - knew this way back in the early 70s.

You’ve got probably the greatest collection of musicians ever here. Jimmy Paige is, IMO, the greatest guitarist ever and Robert Plant is the greatest front man, with charisma that nobody had brought to the stage before. IMO, this is the greatest rock band ever. They were so in tune with each other that when Bonham passed away, they knew that they could never recreate that bond with a replacement and said goodbye.

Gotta say it... no one played guitar like Paige. Not Jimi, not SRV, not Van Halen. His extended solo in this live version is chocked full of ad-libbing, as a solo should be, but the studio version was just perfect (like that amazing playing on Chicago's "25 or 6 to 4"). I was only a peripheral fan of Zeppelin (I only had the first three albums), but the varied styles and progressions have always been appreciated. Bonham played with amazing groove for not "groove" music... we used to say he played a "lazy snare", although he was always right there. All of those guys were amazing.

Robert Plant was our golden haired rock god of the 70s. Jimmy Page didn’t just play the guitar but he breathed life to it. John Paul Jones kept the slow steady tempo, that builds and builds up with the passion of Plant’s voice. John Bonham gave the whole band a heartbeat. Sheer rock, pure and simple. But yet … complex and passionate. One of top 5 rock bands ever.

Mr. Jones is almost always mentioned last in the bunch, but his contribution is WAY underrated and understated. One of the great bassists...I understand he is still busy in the industry...

You should definitely listen to the studio version, which is perfect and has maybe the most iconic guitar solo in rock music. Also it should be noted that Page said these Madison Square Garden concerts were kind of average hohum gigs, not great or bad. It's just when they had the camera's and recording equipment scheduled. Edit: you said you want to hear some more Page hot live soloing, I think the live version of Whole Lotta Love from this MSG concerts has a lot a fun flashy improvised soloing in the middle of it. Page could be pretty sloppy, but he really could play very free and loose, and that's when he's best live.

We were so lucky growing up in the 60s and 70s. As a Teen in the 70s and now later in life its almost an indescribable era we witnessed back then. Such a simple mellow time of music, partying and no social media and all the electronic crap we have now, we went out side all the time and found things to do and friends to hang out with and chasin all the pretty girls and cruising the strip at night on weekends.. No school shootings and other mass shootings. I feel sorry for the youngsters today. I really do. But no doubt the 70s were a gem of a decade. They made a huge mistake early in their reviews and did a liver version of The Ramones "Blietzkrieg Bop" that was horrible. NEVER introduce someone to the Ramones through a live concert. It's twice as fast as original and the words are incomprehensible. I think it totally turned them off of them.

It should just be a basic rule. A reactor trying out a new song can't know if it's one of those very rare ones where the live version is the best, so they just have to guess every time. There should be no guessing. Just always go with studio version, and then people will let them know if there's an iconic live version important enough to check out. I don't blame a reactor for it because again, they've never heard it and just don't know. But.. that's why there should be a standard to follow.

Robert Plant was a student of old english mystical lore and alot of it was also part of Led Zeppelin. They started out like alot of english bands back then as a Blues tribute in their songs but, grew to incorporate other styles. Like the middle eastern feel of Kashmir. Or the old foggy mytical feel of Stairway.

My dad introduced me to Zeppelin. They were his favorite band. He tried learning the guitar because he wanted to learn this intro. It’s one of the only songs I can play on guitar. He always said “play Stairway to Heaven at my funeral.” He passed away in 2019, and I made sure it was a song on his remembrance slide show. My stepmom did not think it would be a good song for a viewing, wake or funeral. But I insisted. She admitted later that it was a fitting song for his memorial.
I have only been able to listen to this song 2 times since that day. This being the second time. It’s so hard to hear it even now. Growing up this was one of my all time favorite songs. It still is, but I can’t hear it without breaking down. Even this time, I love watching y’all’s reactions to the music I grew up listening to. So I had to watch this reaction. It makes me happy to see others joy hearing this for the first time. I envy y’all being able to hear new music for the first time.
And it still makes me hurt thinking of my dad. I like to think anytime someone hears it for the first time, my dad smiles.
I love you dad and I miss hanging out with you listening to and talking music.
    🥃

I do like the studio version a little more, but the thing that has always stood out to me in this video is Plant and Page perfectly demonstrating that quality that I think is even rare among rock stars, that people like Freddie Mercury, Bruce Springsteen, and Mick Jagger also have: to be perfectly comfortable in front of tens of thousands of people and just effortlessly take control of every single one.

    • @squaaaaak3178

Really? So weird the way two people can see something so completely differently. I always thought Robert plant's vocals on this live album were some of the worst I've ever heard. It's possible some of that was due to the recording/ sound engineering, etc.

    • @JoshfromIowa
      @JoshfromIowa 2 года назад +3

@@squaaaaak3178 That's entirely possible. The quality of live recording is rarely as good as in the studio. But I was talking more about their stage presence, especially the way he was able to stand alone in a spotlight and sing a bunch of nonsense sounds in between the lyrics with complete confidence.

      squaaaaak,
Plant was suffering from nodules on his vocal cords in 1973 and had to have an operation soon after this tour. He sang better in 1969, 1970, 1971 and much of 1972 but he's still good in places during the MSG gigs, particularly The Rain Song. He is amazing with that long note at the end.
Even under par Plant in 1973 is better than 90% of other front men.

the tonal quality is ethereal, as is the chanter simulation by John Paul Jones on the keyboards. Live the guitar was drowning the canter out quite a bit. The studio was better because Jimmy was actually playing a 12-string acoustic-electric just a better sound to harmonize with chanter and vocals.
