mistake @ 10:26 - the Shift XT actually has locking pins to secure the top panel properly. So many moving parts on that case to keep track of.
Hey I'm an owner of the NZXT H1 (Original) for quite a while now, and was wondering if you think it'd be worth upgrading to the V2 as I've been quite interested in it lately... I have what I think are pretty high end specs--some may be overkill--but nonetheless am wondering if it's worth the extra bit of cash for an upgrade.
My Specs:
Asus Z490-I Motherboard
Intel i7-10700K CPU
Nvidia FE 2070 Super GPU
16x2GB Ram 3200mhz
1TB Nvme SSD
I dont think I ever seen you build in a big boys case, you love these component ovens.
Would you consider doing a video of ThermalTake's Tower 100 V2? Its a massive ITX case and is pretty unique
@@cartoonhead5819 "Component ovens"? He showed the thermal charts. His list of "Best ITX cases" run cooler than a lot of mid tower setups.
try ZZAW cases
2024 update button
The T1 would presumably be promoted to top 3.
ncore 100 is top fr
absolutely love the colored transition you do on the thermal graphs. Makes it SO much easier to quickly understand how good the case does compared to others. Thank you for that!
I’ve been waiting for this roundup again after all of the big releases. Thank you for putting this together!
Me too.
And yet this is the worst one yet.
These cases suck!
Wheres the ncase??
Only good case is the dan h20
This is a joke right?
I think for many the big appeal of ITX is the challenge. Packing as much as possible into a case as small as possible, while sacrificing as little as possible. Its an interesting optimization problem.
You said it better than I've been able to. It's like some kind of 3D tetris puzzle or something.
It's also better for me, as I have mine set up in my semi-sleeper. Space isn't common.
For me it’s just the small form
I enjoy building SFF pcs and the challenge it gives rather than using the PC itself. 😂😂
I'm 5'-5". Just keepin' it real.
my desk is 40 inches. i need the SFF
After following you, I’ve built my first ever pc using the SSUPD case, RTX3070, SF750 PSU and the Liam Li SL240 AIO cooler. Very happy with it, thanks for the tutorials 👍🏻
Meshlicious is a pretty awesome case.
Isn’t it too big?
I’m looking for something similar but smalle
@@milknei_beatsThats kinda tricky. I’d recommend going A4-H2O if you want near uncompromising performance and solid GPU compatibility
@@milknei_beats depends on which dimension you are focusing. Meshlicious have really small footprint, but is obviously taller. It works perfectly for me, but if you want something smaller but longer then there are other options.
2023 update?
I’m not sure how much more could be added to the list at this point tbh, there’s some, but they would probably be in the “making concessions” category
We need that just hought a nr200p max great case
How about 2024?
My favorite is definitely the Dan A4 H2O. Lots of bang for the buck and bang for the volume.
I would love to pick one up but I want to stick with air cooling these days.@@nottsoserious
I already got my pc case based on your suggestion from couple of years back, yet still watch your videos religiously. Thank you, Ali! Keep up the good work
The beauty of the NR200P is so minimal and I love how flexible it is for building PC. You will never go wrong when using it because it can be reverse to put the AIO at the top, both air and liquid cooling is also good, and the air flow inside is the best.
I first saw it from Dave2D, then in your channel, and stumble upon on Machines and More by maximizing the capability of the case.
Yep I built my first PC with it and it was really straight forward
I loved my Cougar QBX (and it’s low price) but I recently go my hands on a 2nd had NR200P that had been inverted. I have become a massive fan just because of it’s ease of use. I’m currently running quad 140mm fans mounted via zip ties.
Yea that case really changed the game and got more people into itx that didnt follow it before. I actually sold my v5 m2 and use it instead. But got mine but when it as 99 instead of 150 now for n200p.
I love my M1 but I have to admit it's become restrictive in terms of GPU choices with the current trend of behemoth gpus
it's okay because availability of gpus will be way more restrictive than the choices that fit in M1.
Waiting for version 2 before upgrading likely... hopefully by then there's more DDR5 motherboard Mini-ITX choices, etc
I would disagree. M1 is a well optimized ITX case. The only thing that is restrictive are those big ass, 3-slot GPUs.
@@kickazzdrummer666 the M1 was way ahead of its time I'd say, but the decision to discontinue has to do with the size of video cards these days. There are quite a few card that you can fit in a NR200 that you cannot fit in the M1.
@@kickazzdrummer666 There's plenty of cards that are too long too. I love my M1 but I basically needed a founders edition for my 3080 to be able to fit it with a waterblock.
I'm excited to see what they come up with next though!
The H1 V2 beating the NR200 was unexpected and surprising to say the least.
Cases are getting more affordable as the ITX market grows and as cases getting fine tuned to almost perfection is always welcomed.
I really hope that cases like the Ghost S1 will get updated to become future proofed because they still look sick and clearly have space to be improved upon.
I really appreciate NZXT improved the H1 as it was one of my favorite SFF cases. Now if only the Evolve Shift would get an improvement as it had so much potential.
Your channel convinced me to switch to ITX after nearly a year of ogling. I went with the base NR200 because I was scared of compatibility. If I had a smaller GPU, I'd like to go for the DAN A4H20 but I'm still very happy with my NR200. When I go visit my parents for the holidays I can chuck it in an IKEA bag with a controller and mouse and throw it in my back seat and call it a day!
The reason I've been more and more interested in ITX SFF lately is because of what you said in a past video on the topic. I think there is no reason for things to be larger than they absolutely have to be. These small cases give all the functionality of a tower case without all the bulk. You're not really giving up any performance at all (depending on the case) when building in small form factor. That and I have my PC on my desk because the floor in my house is ridden with hair and dust.
I just finally upgraded my system switched from a 9900K with 2080ti in a O11Dynamic XL case to an ITX case 5900X with a 6900XT. Put it into a Hyte Revolt 3 case. I chose the case because of the small foot print (7"X9"). Loved the solid Mesh design and the easy removal of all the panels.
Your videos inspired me to downsize from the 011-D to the NR200P and now again to the Dan A4-H20. Your videos are so hard on my wallet but I love it! Keep up the good work!
Honestly I think mini-itx have proven to be superior for exhaust performance, which leads to efficient methods of cooling. There’s so much less distance for the hot air to travel, and less room for it to stay inside the case and a become turbulent heater. Look at the series X, uses both an intake and exhaust fan that work in conjunction for both convection and directing the airflow path to exhaust all amounts of heat out the top, and you can actually feel the extreme amount of hot air leaving the system too. The requirements and constraints you provided for this list were stellar, and the entire point of purchasing a case like this. Obviously the only caveat at this point would be the power supply not having enough capacitance or power headroom for both 12-Gen/30-series producing intense transient peaks in current draw.
I’m using the base NR200 and looks like I’ve made the perfect choice. 12600K paired with Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240, plus EVGA 3080 FTW Ultra, both OC’ed to their limits, work so well inside this small chassis and don’t require a huge amount of hassle in installation.
I'm still in love with NR200P. It's not so small that it's impossible to build. It's cheap. Looks good. Has good airflow. Incredibly easy to work with and has great build design. It's just overall solid. Will definitely be using it again in the future.
I’ve been planning an itx build for a few days now and this video released? Perfect timing
I personally have the following cases and a few Mini ITX rigs:
- N-Case M1
- NR200 (OG)
- Skyreach Mini S4
- Recently ordered and received my new Torrent Nano RGB & Phanteks Shift XT which I’m looking at moving one of my rigs into 🥰❤👍
Honestly, the supd meshlicious is great for compact aircooling too imo. I built two with a ryzen 5800x and scythe big shuriken, 2x140mm fans exhausting our the front. It'll run the system incredibly silent and cool. I didn't like putting an aio into it mostly because if you intake the front, you run into turbulence vs the gpu, and if you exhaust the front you just end up with the gpu heat blowing through the cpu rad. With dual 140mm exhaust out the front in an air cooled build, you really take advantage of the mesh and can quickly push out hot air from both the cpu and gpu chambers. If you haven't tried it yet, let me know what you think if you do.
Nice, a new ITX case video.
Time to get a cup of coffee, sit back and have a good watch.
My favorite ITX (non-SFF) case is the Fractal Torrent Nano. I plan on building all my buddies' PCs in it. The airflow is incredible and it supports ATX power supplies. I think you'd at least give it an honorable mention if you get around to reviewing it.
NHD15 and ATX PSU compatibility in an ITX case? Count me in! But like you mentioned, it is not a true SFF case at approx 34.7l (calculated from length * width * height), but I do think one could easily put it on one's desk.
@@ChrisOstreicher This video specifically says ITX cases, not SFF cases. AFAIK, he hasn't done a review of the Fractal Torrent Nano yet. I'm hoping he checks it out at some point!
Sad to hear no Shift XT Review :(
I will never thank you enough to bring to my attention the FormD T1 that I bought. Hope to see you review the T1 V2 soon !
a long awaited update! was waiting for this video to decide on my new build
I am still a student and just thinking about graduating and moving to another place in the future, I don't want to leave my build behind or go through complicated steps of tearing the build down and rebuilding.
This is the excuse I found for myself for justifying my desire to downsize to an ITX build. And when a friend of mine said he could take my large case and mobo, I immediately pulled the trigger and got a Meshlicious.
And Ali your channel has always been a great inspiration! Thank you so much for making these videos
thanks to your channel I swapped to a NR200 around 7 months ago and love it, can never go back to atx ever again, its much quieter, runs just as cool if not cooler than my old atx, takes up less space, much appreciated for the video's. 👍
Sliger would be another good addition to the list as well 👍🏻
Optimum Tech Ali, ITX Prophet has spoken.
We don't even have to watch the entire video to know this is going to be a banger.
Man oh man you just read my mind. Noticed the Phanteks Shift XT just came out yesterday and I've been digging around trying to find a comprehensive recommendation. Really appreciated it! Keep up the good work!
Absolutely love it when you do ITX roundups and reviews!
Oh God that shot at 3:33 is simply stunning! Almost looks like a sci-fi render or something.
I just searched for this yesterday lol. I swear Ali's timing gives me goosebumps.
As soon as I saw the "best overall" being an NZXT H1 I couldn't help but ask myself "I beg your pardon?" lmao. Quite surprising
Top notch review! This version is much more refined and makes more sense with market! Great video as always, Ali! 🤘
Picked up a cooler master nr200p max for a stonking 215 GBP via Amazon prime day.
Looking forward to slowly purchasing the boots and pieces over the next few months or so.
This case appeals to me as I want an ITX with minimal build input from me. Happy to make that compromise.
I love my Li Lian TU150 as this is the only itx case can fit a D15 cpu cooler and a front intake fan for better air cooling.
I have been looking to build one. This could NOT have come at a better time :D
i don't fully agree with all the choices but dang, what a great look back at some glorious footage of some of the most stunning builds to grace this earth! looking back, each one had exquisitely harmonious component choices. truly gorgeous. looking forward to the new generation of components and the next cycle of sweet sweet builds from you Ali!
Well, your ITX propaganda worked so well that I built my own console case that can accommodate up to 305 mm 3 pci-e slot GPU and 55 mm CPU cooler. Well under 8 liters in total volume as well. Thanks for all the content.
What case?
Also want to know what case you used?
@@gimmy2294 he said "built my own"
@@oshxdxw what case?
high quality vid as per usual!
The NR200 is unbeatable imho. I've had my NR for over 18 months and built two systems in it including a full custom loop. It's the perfect size case, saving space on my desk but still providing great compatibility for virtually all components.
Good overall summary and I appreciate the roundup of being cases we can actually purchase. IMO the OG NR200 is still the best overall SFF taking into account hardware compatibility, price and performance
So many little hidden option like mounting 1400 fans on top and bottom without needing to modify the case (beyond a few zip ties to hold the fans)
Would be nice to eventually see a super-small thin mini-ITX case review for the upcoming RDNA-based APUs. Having RTX 3050 -like graphics performance in that form factor is going to be pretty cool. It just seems like there aren't lots of case options, and what's there is overpriced.
video should be called BEST REVIEW for ITX cases v3! Love all versions of it Ali💪
worth mentioning that the FormD T1 seems to be available again
been watching your videos since a looooong time ago and your vidoes have always been a pleasure to watch. Nicely opiniated, well shot and informative. Thank you for doing such a great job!
My M1(v5) has been sitting in a box for the last year - couldn't get a 3080 FE and ended up grabbing a 3090 FE, which doesn't fit in the M1. Same goes for my Evolv Shift, EVGA Hadron and a number of others - all gathering dust in the garage.
I got a NR200, which is great, but it's a lot bigger than the M1 and you're still paying the ITX tax on motherboards. So, I figured if I can live with cases around the 20 litre region, why not go mATX? Now, I have shoe-horned smaller 3 slot mATX boards into both my NR200 and NCase M1, but they tend to be limited in features or VRM capability, so they're dar from ideal.
The Sama IM-01 is around 21 litres (about a half inch longer and taller than the NR200) and can house a full size, fully featured mATX board. It's also known by a bunch of other names, but it's cheap and almost comparable to the NR200 in quality. No more ITX tax for me.
Great roundup, thanks! I'm planning on building my next PC to the Meshlicious with full custom loop when next gen of CPU:s and GPU:s come out. Your videos are very inspiring!
You should make another "reacting to viewers setups" video. They are very entertaining and allow viewers to see other types of setups and ideas for people that are new to pc's
Crazy timing as I am poking at ITX cases currently.
Looking for the smallest possible case that has a window showing the cpu, a cpu air cooler, and a gpu.
Sliger 610 is looking to be the winner, very suprised you did not mention it.
Cooler Master NR200P is another good choice but I have no idea why people mount graphics cards standing up in the NR200, flat looks better you can actually see the motherboard.
Sliger S610 is very well built.
The Ncase M1 is my dream pc case. I had put in an order two years ago, but had to cancel it. Since then I've done some iterations of my build in the Nr200p and now I ordered the Sliger S620... but I really wish I could have gotten a M1
I'm thinking about selling my Ncase M1 after my Jimu D+ v2 arrives sometime in April
@@ps3guy22 I hadnt heard of the Jimu before!
If I got aNcase tho I'd want one thats new/unused condition - decided I'll stick with the Sliger for now, I have some modding plans as well that I wanna try out
dude, i’ve just finished installing my nzxt h1 v2 and man it’s loud in idle. PSU fan never stops (while the v1 did) and it’s not super quiet and the pump runs at 100% all the time doing that annoying high pitched whine and you can’t change that cause it’s all connected to their proprietary nzxt fan controller. You should mention these things. I’m probably going to return it but so much time wasted…
Did you return it and what did you end up getting?
@@Captain-Chats yes I did. I went back to H1 v1. It's crazy how some small but very dumb choices can ruin an otherwise very good design. Maybe reviewers get some improved versions, I don't understand. Thermals were better, yes, but the noise was just stupid and, most importantly, unnecessary. I've seen tests that show that the pump at 100% doesn't improve thermals over 70 or 80%, and I tested it on my own too. H1 v1 is super quiet in idle or during light use.
Compact PC is my one way to go and not going back no matter what, thank you for inspiring me like last 3 or 4 years I know this channel 😊
unfortunate a shift xt build isn't gonna be uploaded, was thinking you'd make a nice build in it when I first saw it
@10:21 did you lock the two latches? I had that problem too until I realized I forgot to slide the locks into the lock position. After I did that the top doesn't move at all.
I wish more reviewers would give recognition to the Iqunix ZX-1 I have it and it's such a good performer! It's always left out in reviews :(
Looks interesting, haven't heard of it before. I wish the white model wouldn't have an orange top though lol.
@@Dionyzos the coral top looks so good imo.
Agreed. The ZX-1 is a wonderful case. I have both the AC and WC versions, and while they are limited in regards to GPU Width and Height, there are plenty of GPU's that will fit. The EVGA XC's and XC3's for example can fit in both the AC and WC versions. You just have to do proper component research before buying in, but that is true of almost every ITX case. I am not a fan of the NZXT H1's... the proprietary AIO is a big no-no.
@@Dionyzos You can airbursh it to any colour you prefer, lot's of people did that into black, yellow, green etc. Some examples are even shown in their user reviews page :)
I would love to see a video like this about micro-ATX cases. I hate full towers, but need some PCI expansion + some storage area
You have successfully convinced me to build my first ever PC using NZXT H1 :D .
The greatest thing is it so easy for a newbie. Everything just ready in the right place and my only job is follow it, even not take 1 hour for the first time build a PC !!!
The best channel about itx pc!
I'm a fan of my black and white Sliger 620. It's less than half as big as my mid tower. Love it.
You made a mistake on the Phanteks case. There are sliding locks under the removable magnetic front panel that lock the top panel in place to keep it from coming off.
I bought a Sliger and I am very impressed with it so far.
Maybe it is worth reaching out to them, or just buying one of each on your own?
I heard somewhere that the sliger cases and him don't mix. I think it was the Sliger discord. I'm not sure if he hates their cases or what he thinks.. but he's pretty much against them. Maybe deals with other companies or something. I can't really say for sure but it's a thing that he just doesn't like sliger cases for some reason.
See I chose meshilicious over the nzxt because the mesh will fit a suprim x whereas the NZXT won’t. So I disagree on gpu clearance.
I built my first PC in the Cooler Master NR200P and it really was quite straight forward for me as someone with no previous experience building PCs
Great run down! variety was amazing, you covered a ton of cases
Great advice.. as always! Thumbs up!!
I'd say for me the personality of these builds is why I love itx form factor.
Ordered an A4-H2O pretty pumped to try it out. The SM580 is my personal favorite for an ITX case. I'd like to try the S610 at some point and make an insane build in it. Get as compact as possible with a 280 and 240 rad with an iceman res on the back.
oh my god I love this video, i'v been looking for a itx case forever but don't know what to get
My personal - subjective, naturally - favourite is still the Streacom DA2, which right now stands on my desk. Haven't yet found a single case that'd look as good and would allow an air-cooled build. (I also don't like vertical cases.) But I have high hopes for the upcoming FormD T1 EVO.
Can't wait for your reviews/comparisons of the Meshlicious 2, FormD T1 v2.0, and Dan C-4!
Sad to not see the "Hyte Revolt 3" at least as a honorable mention. I wanted a H1 but it wasn't available for a long time due to recall and bought the "Hyte Revolt 3" and for my use turns out to be better suited for me then the H1 would have, as it has a handle and supports a 3.5inch hdd I don't have to MOD into the H1
Also no need for a PCIE riser cable.
Thank you for this! I've been slowly building a parts list for my first ITX build and I keep waffling on the case choice. I had watched the first two roundups as well, but I think this has sold me on the NR200P or DanA4.
Just sized down to ITX this year, and for the past 2 months have been enjoying my NZXT H1 v1. It's crazy how it's light-years quieter than my ATX tower was, even with a faster CPU with twice the threads, and a GPU with almost 6 times the tflop/s. And to think that the v2 has even better thermals is amazing. I think it maybe possible to put a small fan inside of the v1 H1 to match the thermals of the v2 H1. There's definitely room for it seeing as I've seen people put screens inside of them.
I built my first ever pc with nr200p max following your guid and damn it is really easy especally for a first timer like me
One thing I would like to mention regarding the NR200 MAX is that some users reported coil whine with the included 850w PSU. I'm not sure if this is a concern for all models, but it is something to definitely consider in the long run (3month+).
I don't understand why no one recommends The Hyte Revolt 3. For me it's one of the best itx cases ever made. It don't need the pathetic gpu riser and can fit 280mm AIO and the best part is it regularly comes at $100 bucks in amazon from $129.
Would love to see this but for M-atx compact cases
Can't wait to see the DAN C4 SFX 👍🏼
Thank you for this informative video. I have watched many of your videos on PC building and they are excellent. All important aspects ITX pc build are mentioned here which I thought was extremely good.
I know it was negatively reviewed by your channel, but I still love my Fractal Design Era ITX. All I did was remove the bottom and drill some air holes for the GPU. With my 240mm AIO pushing out air out the top, my 5800x never hits 60c and my 2080 Super also only reaches ~73C with a massive OC. The fans only hit 60-75% in load, too.
My favorite ITX case is gonna be the Sliger S620 for ever. Simply because It can fit the Noctua NH D15 and up to a 323mm GPU as well while being compact, looking amazing and having very good airflow.
Lian li q58 now has mesh kit sold separately. I think it would perform as good as dan a4 h2o
Q58 is ugly as fuck because of the cheap looking front panel
mini case with glass side panel is just sooo charming to look at every time ;))
Please do a Shift XT watercooling build!! Would love to see what you could do with that case!!
There is no way! I just watched the V2 video.
You missed the smallest mini-ITX case that I just finished a build in - SilverStone SG05BB-Lite. I was able to modify it to get a 120mm AIO in on a Ryzen 3700X CPU, an EVGA Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 XC GPU, an EVGA SFX 650W PSU, a 70mm x 10mm top case fan on a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Wifi Pro mini-ITX motherboard with an M.2 NVME drive, and a 2.5" SSD. Gaming in Halo Infinite (a GPU hog) gets me CPU temperatures between 52*C and 55*C, and GPU temperatures under 75*C with an ambient temperature of 27*C (81*F...yes, it's kinda warm here in the basement without a/c). Normal temps when not gaming are well below 53*C for both the CPU and GPU. Oh, and I have a Blu-Ray optical drive in it, too (a laptop drive).
NR200 is the best starter ITX case out there. But it's a gateway case because the minute I finished building in it I started thinking "can I go smaller?"
The SFF hobby is ADDICTING yo.
IMO one thing you didn't mention is the expansion capabilities of NR200. It stands out among the others mentioned and is the major advantage NR200 has over the max variant.
Big gpu's are one thing, but I still do not consider them the norm, more like the high end. I'm pretty sure 80% of pc gamers would be perfectly happy with a 3060 Ti that comes in 2 slot variants more often than not. And an 5600x which can be reliably and easily cooled within 47mm clearance. Sure they are comfortable in an NR200 too, but 10L cases and below are still in game for those owning the same configuration but are more councious to size. I recently downsized from a Dan A4 build featuring an ITX 2060 with a 120mm rad to a Velka 3 and an L9a. Now I have a build below 4L which is the absolute minimum and I'm perfectly happy with it's performance and how cool and quiet it is.
My 3090 is 2c cooler in the RN200 compared to my ATX tower. It really is extremely well optimized. It's about as small as you can go while still having ATX levels of air/AIO cooling. It's basically as small as you can go while still fitting a 280 radiator/aio on the side with enough room for top exhaust fans, and 2 intake fans under a 2 slot GPU. I have mine setup with a standard mounted GPU. The motherboard back-panel on the case ends at the GPU slot, leaving empty space for bottom mounted fans to kick hot air from the GPU out both side panels. A 280aio as side intake also gives airflow over the motherboard. Top exhaust. This gives both the GPU and CPU fresh air intake.
A deshrouded 3080/3090 strix card would be amazing in this case. Unfortunately we haven't been able to easily pick which model GPU this generation, if even lucky enough to get one in the first place.
i'm still a big fan of the meshlicious, love tinkering in mine. :)
Great video as always, was waiting for a v3! Thanks. :) But something is wrong with your voice recording this time compared to your recent videos.
I used to only like midtower or larger cases for a long time. I felt like I didn't want to compromise on what I could fit in my case, like I wanted to be able to have a ton of storage and not have to think about GPU clearance and whatnot. These days though I prefer the smaller systems. Not absolutely tiny, but I currently run a cooler master core V1 and I'm really happy with the balance between component capacity and size. It fits on my desk nicely, looks good. My temps are good, and these days I run a NAS so there is no reason to have a bunch of drives, I just have 2x 2TB m.2 drives and that's plenty enough for my games.
Once again, best RUclipsr 👌🏽
The H1 is awesome. It looks sick, and if it's your first ITX build it takes a lot of the stress out of selecting power/cooling. I already had an AIO and power supply so I went with the Meshlicious but if I was starting from scratch I'd definitely go for it.
You think NZXT case is worth it as first Itx build?
itx build ....1 stop ...its here....thanks as always
