As a former employee of the park, I have to agree that Lightning Rod is definitely a top tier RMC. There is nothing mid level about it...

It was hauling on Thursday when Logan, Drew, and myself marathoned it all day!
I know it shot back up in Logan’s rankings after he rode it again! I still have to get back down there myself to give it another go
I rode it for the first time on Thursday and Saturday. Both days it was running better than El Toro. The front row at night was incredible without the hot rod, and the back was just ridiculous.
You guys are actually some coaster enthusiast I could actually hang out with! Funny as shit! Not sure how funny shit is, but its got to be funny.
Am I the only coaster enthusiast who likes Wild Eagle? Everyone seems to think it’s forceless for some reason, but I found it to be very forceful.

Great video. The editing had me LOL a LOT. But what is up with Lightning Rod? Why can they not keep this ride running reliably? Whatever the reason they need to address it because that much downtime is unacceptable.
Thanks man! And I’m really not sure. I’ve heard issues with the track, trains, LSMs, pretty much everything. Whatever it is, I hope they can fix it soon and have that ride running reliably because it is too good!
ElToroRyan The track shouldn’t be an issue as it’s used on other rides without problems. I guess it could still be the trains even though they have modified them already. My bet though is on the lifthill since no other RMC has one like that. After all this time one would think they would have solved things by now.

That’s funny LR and Thunderhead were closed! Cause it happened literally to me as well... Hell, at one point LR, Thunderhead, Wild Eagle and Tennessee Tornado were all closed for 2 hours straight!

Lightning Rod is one of the best RMC's. It is nuts. I recently went to Dollywood and got front row twice and back row once. It was insane. Also the mystery mine layout is different. The new coaster Big Bear Mountain is pretty fun as well
All of your guys’ opinions are wrong. Lol. Wild Eagle was not weak like Gatekeeper, I actually grayed out for a second. I find that drop tower to give amazing views, and therefore it may, in fact, be the best one I’ve been on. Ok, that’s actually all I have to argue about lol.
The big ride in the begging I was on it when I went to Dollywood and the whole time I had my eyes closed and blacked out haha

This was my first roller coaster I hated it but the adrenalin was fun defenitly would ride again hopefully more prepared

Its embarrassing for the park that a quarter day of being open is a good day for LRod. Happened to me in 2016. 2018 it was closed all day. Ill be back in 2.5 weeks, hoping for at least one ride. Anyway, great video guys

Hahah I think Dragster goes down more often in a single day but for short periods of time. Where as when Lightning Rod goes down, it seems to really go down and often closes for the day

The one time I went to Dollywood, I took my kids who were all too little for the big rides all by myself. I could only ride the kiddie rides, it was so depressing 😩🤣

The middle of September is also a good time to visit. I went in 2016, got my rides on LR, and the rest of the park was a walk on. There is a Rod Run car show Sept 12-14 which takes over the strip. The hotels will be more expensive, but Dollywood still has short lines. It's a great park with all that charm, just out of the top 20 in attendance at 2.5 million a year. They need another knock out coaster and a giant Zamperla swing ride. Making the drop tower a family ride was a joke. That's the problem, the new rides are family versions. Take a lap around the park, it's good, but there's something missing. Besides LR, everything else in the park in a one and done for the day.
Yeah absolutely. I got the chance to visit Silver a Dollar City last summer and it made Dollywood kinda feel like it was missing something.

😂😂 yeah a few of those clips of LR towards the beginning of the video were from 2017 when I went. The clips towards the end are from 2018 when it actually ran for a few cycles without breaking

We went the day before Halloween this year. No waits for any ride. Rode LR 3 times. It was a beautiful day. Relaxing. The staff was great. Dollywood is a growing park.
You and the Coaster Idiot crew should come out to Six Flags Great America for the opening of MaxxForce. I’m able to score a few passes for media day, since I’ve been working ride ops there on and off for the last few years. I’d love to hang out with you guys for the day sometime, but let me know. We’ll get some classic one train ops rollin just for you

ElToroRyan I’ve spent most of the time on Raging Bull, but did a lot of time on Goliath and X-Flight as well. It’s so sick. Operations there are usually pretty good. The only one I know usually sucks is Viper 👋🏻
