Ah, yes. SDI, also known as "How to destroy your controller against a Bayonetta player"
I remember those days. Sometimes you would break your controller SDI’ing and you’d still die
Oh dayum, the rotating back and forth to hit the timing is helpful as heck. Been struggling with getting the timing right consistently for SDI, thanks.
how did it take this long for someone to explain it this easily thank u Dabuz
The knowledge and explanation has been around since at least Brawl. It's just that Sm4sh heavily nerfed SDI (and even DI to some extent) that people joked about it not being relevant anymore. Thus the need for an explanation kinda died down and I guess people were just conditioned to believe so. If I'm being honest, as a veteran of the series it was kinda sad to see discussion of it come up again like it's new tech.
@@JAMllostthegame SDI has been around since 64, very important in 64, Melee and Brawl. I don't understand why Sakurai felt the need to render it nearly useless in 4 and beyond when it had been around literally since the beginning :/
He literally teaches me the things I don't know cus I have no one to train with nor can I find it online.
@@beszt95 I honestly understand the nerf in Sm4sh because it was so insane in Brawl (look up Mr. Doom's SDI sucks for examples for those who don't know). But it definitely took a big hit after that. And because so it hasn't been necessarily common knowledge anymore, despite the knowledge and information still being around.
@@gimmieyogrits I would suggest going through Reddit or even Facebook and other social media to see if your region or city has a community that you can participate in. It could even be for strictly Wi-Fi if that's your only way of playing. You are definitely not alone in the grind and I'm sure you can find someone to practice with
As a Jigglypuff main I won a few rounds just from SDI alone
As a Bowser main I lost more than I can count due to not having it mastered 😭
As a smash main, yes
Didn't know about this SDI technique. I'll definitely grind that one since Corrin is COMBO FOOD.
SDI is probably one the most important concepts on Smash and till today we have videos that try explain in 10 minutes and Dabuz explained on 1.
MiYa is definitely the most consistent player this year, dude really deserves #1
Thank you lads for asking. Please folks, ask more basic questions. I only instinctively do this when getting hit by Ness's PK Fire so I never put two and two together.
Funny enough it apparently doesn’t work well against pk fire, as it doesn’t have any SDI multiplier. It’s actually better to DI out and away.
@@headpatter1167 It's definitely a habit thing if you played older games, you would instinctively SDI out of it even though DI is better.
Next episode: "How to use SD in Smash Bros"
actually very informative. good one.
This guy is a goldmine of information
Thanks bro
sdi is like the coolest and most deepest mechanics
Thx for the tips keep it going 👍
Thanks bro didn’t knew about sdi I know di
Your controller is fantastic
So glad someone else asked
Can you make a video on the optimal way of getting out of rapid jabs? Pls!
That would be to SDI away from them. If you're in shield, you can hold two shield buttons (or for non-inkling players, shield and special) to lock yourself in shield and prevent accidental rolls.
For multihits you can drop shield during (which would cause you to roll and take a hit before the invuln kicks in), still SDI away, but if you can't drop shield during a flurry, mash towards them without doing the 2 shield/ shield + special lock.
This will allow you to get closer to them and then roll behind them, a roll like this will trigger no matter what and with f1 invuln if you were locked into shield for 10 hits
SDI down and away and hold double shield or shield and special. SDI down and away prevents you from being put into the air, and double shield/shield and special prevents you from buffering a roll. You can also shield DI towards them so you can get a more optimal punish after their jab is over or after 11 hits on your shield (after 11 hits, roll out of shield becomes frame 1 intangible).
Dabuz, can you do a video of optimal mashing for getting out of throws? Thanks!
Nice GameCube Controller Dabuz
Once i found out about sdi, pk fire became slightly more tolerable... Slightly. Nice that u can escape it quickly, but you're still having that shit spammed at u 💀
Ah, so this is why pros have like 7 controllers
do the GameCube notches help with this or does it not matter? (not a super important question but judy wondering)
I know I’m like 2 weeks late, but I’m a melee player and the notches def don’t help make you BETTER at SDI but I use them as kind of a blind guide to quickly help me understand what direction I’m SDIing to.
What is DI in and DI out?
If I’m trying to live longer do I hold the stick or spam it?
Wait, SDI is a Flick move and not just a hold? BRUH
This video peaves me because basic movement is fundamental movement. Learning this is imperative to mastery of your character's fundamentals. If that doesn't interest you, then quit playing the game competitively.
Does this method of sdi work on pro controller?
I am main donkey Kong my friend is a yoshi main and just combos me in the air any tips on avoiding that
For example what direction should I SDI and when to air dodge and when to not
You typically want to SDI away from your opponent. As you probably saw from the video, Dabuz SDIed to the side during Yoshi's down air which is typically what you want to do in most scenarios.
And remember if you wanna do this perfectly you must pray to your waifu (no hate)
How would I be able to play you? Is that on Patreon?
Check out the metafy link the description :)
