  • Prostate artery embolization (PAE) is an interventional radiology treatment for BPH that offers a lower risk of urinary incontinence and sexual side effects compared to surgery. PAE works by reducing the blood supply to the prostate, causing it to shrink.
Patients who undergo PAE have reported high satisfaction, no urinary incontinence, or sexual side effects. Minor side effects include frequent and/or difficult urination, pelvic pain, blood in the urine, blood in the stool and diarrhea. Most of these side effects resolve on their own in a few days.
Compare that to TURP, which usually requires 3 and 6 weeks to recover, and a catheter is left in place for 2 to 3 days. Complications and risks include excessive bleeding, retrograde ejaculation, and impotence.
In this video you get a glimpse at the journey one of our patients has taken from being diagnosed with BPH to after his PAE procedure. If you would like to learn more or schedule an appointment, visit us at www.advantage-ir.com

I have for 3 years been self catherterizing. I had been offered different procedures, but felt they had too many side effects. I had the PAE procedure May 22 2023. My doctor said that it would be 5-6 weeks before I would feel benefit of the operation. 5 weeks 2 days after the procedure I started to pass urine, without a catheter. My life has changed for the best. I am 72, I would definitely recommend this operation.

I had the PAE procedure two years ago with no benefits. The procedure took six hours and was pure hell. Big mistake for me. My problem is overactive bladder, not an enlarged prostate. Never should have had the PAE done. Now I take pumpkin seed oil tablets daily and amy doing much better. Good luck.

Well, people usually take pumpkin seeds for an enlarged prostate. They must have measured the sized of your prostate before they did the procedure. What's up, your post doesn't make much sense.
