I started watching your videos 3 years ago. I passed my Mod 4 on Monday this week and passed my Reverse test 2 days later. Now its just my driving on the road test I need to do.
This video is so useful. I failed on the reversing exercise on my first test attempt, but passed on my second attempt last week largely thanks to this video. The shunt was never really explained to me properly (I should've taken a shunt during my first test) but this video explains the shunt and the manoeuvre as a whole so clearly. I needed to take a shunt during during my second test. I honestly don't know if I would have if I hadn't watch this video. Keep up the great work and thank you for your help.

Hi. Used your video on reversing to get knowledge of the reversing. Must admit I did stop watching this to concentrate on my instructor doing the reversing. Did my reversing test today and am pleased to say by using this video to start with I passed my reversing first time. I did do a shunt and pulled forward. And went back straight. Thought that was better doing that way. Downside to this because I had the reversing on the same day as my class c test I failed the driving test. Not my driving company fault. The third party people who forgot about my reversing test that should of been Wednesday. Thanks for the video along with the mod 4 pass I used for your videos.
Hi. This is an update on my last comment. A month ago I had to redo my rigid reversing after my passed certificate in march was out of date. Refreshed on here for a practice run after 7 months since I last did it, at the company I was with ( different company than when I did my first comment) . Turned out I didn't need a practice after all and told made the practice look easy. Did reversing test again and passed with a shunt involved. Was told that a few other students watched on, in the distance for guidance for Thier practice and eventual test Good news is that Thanks to your videos and using a far better testing company, I passed my class 2 rigid driving test at the third attempt. Thanks to you all over the many months I did watching your videos. I'll definitely be back when I redo my artic. Ps Apologies for the long winded comment.

I'll be honest if it wasn't for this video I don't think I would of passed .failed the first time then got another test the next day .watched video night before and took on board the tips .especially keeping tight to the b line when approach to the 2 cones...thank god these guys put videos like this on 👍thanks so much
Like anything. Once you get used to the size of the vehicle you develop spacial awareness and its all very easy. My advice is simple, take it slowly and use your wide angle mirrors. Amazing how many people don't realise how vital they are for reversing.
Watched this video last night and found it extremely helpful. Followed all the tips, but was told that I was too slow I had failed. In your video you say that this is not timed. I was taking my time to ensure that I did not go over the yellow lines, or knock any of the cones.
Best advice is get out and check. Passed by reverse test today, would have failed, if I never checked as was on black line not over it. ( also make sure lorry is straight. On Traning had o/s in box but because I was not straight had touch Barrier with n/s )

@@NationalDrivingCentre It's weird how you get used to larger vehicles. I'm so used to driving a LWB Sprinter that I actually struggle to park my girlfriend's Fiesta because it's not square and way smaller than I'm used to.
So for instance if your reversing and need to take a shunt can you just drive forward and straight backwards or do you need to align in the starting position?

Hi Ash, sorry to hear about the test. Should be covered in your driving instruction to check. It is a strong fail, but can happen if you get transfixed with just the one side. Good luck with the next one.
do the DVSA mark you on dry steering? I have been told by several car instructors that they dont care and in fact some instructors tell their pupils to do it as its easier but i could see it being different for a HGV due to the weight of the vehicle
It's a very good question, it really comes down to the instructor and Examiner. Some will teach it and allow it some won't. If you done in front of me I would give you a minor 🧐 because I have to maintain and look after these vehicles and the surface area as well. Hope this helps. Thank you so much for your question. 👍👍👍👍

try working for council driving refuse truck, you may have to help load when in a close or cul de sac but wheely bins not hard work UNLIKE metal pig bins very heavy good luck !
The best thing to do would be to increase your left and right mirrors. I know that sounds easy but increasing the mirrors would make you check your positioning with regards to the left-hand curb or the right-hand centreline in time this will then increase your all-round understanding of the width. Hope this helps Chris Best of luck. 👍👍👍
Hello Paddy on test day this is not essential, this can come down to company policy or the companies safe systems of work where you are training. A lot of new vehicles now as soon as you put it into reverse the hazard lights do come on but as we said not a sensual observation and control is the main thing the examiner is looking for when reversing. 👍👍
Sorry just a little bit unsure of the question. As soon as the tyres start to go backwards that's when we start to steer left heading over towards the yellow line and then parallel to the yellow line. If you have any further questions please give us a call.👍👍
Wish I'd seen this before I took my test. It was never fully emphasised how I should have driven close to the B cone on my drive forward. I got too far to the right and was in trouble as soon as I started reversing, touched the yellow line on my right, then went over the cone which I never saw in my mirror.
This is not a legal requirement when reversing an LGV/PCV. Please have a look at the rules on the GOV website to refresh the law. 👍👍 www.gov.uk/seat-belts-law/when-you-dont-need-to-wear-a-seat-belt
How would you know where the back of the lorry is and how far you can go? I know there are markers but in the real world you wouldn't have markers and most lorries are different sizes.
Thank you so much for your comment Josh, in the real world you can still have markers on the vehicles, especially with the C+E It doesn't matter which tractor unit you're using because the market will be on the trailer. As for the cat C the marker would be the same for every driver. It takes five minutes to install this, and it's just a hosepipe or cable tie on the back of the mudguard. If you're not going to use a marker, then you're just gonna have to get out and have a look. There's nothing wrong with doing this, and don't feel ashamed to do it rather get out and have a look, then crack a lens or damage the rear doors, 👍👍👍
@@NationalDrivingCentrethank you for the reply, I will keep that in mind, I dont think the instructor explained how to use the marker to your advantage. I have a class 2 test in January and I find these videos helpful. And thanks for the video on the show me tell me :)
We have been told this a lot, but in long years instructing the problem we see is the student can pull forward on test and be over to the offside to much so as they turn full lock the wheel goes over the line causing a serious fault. Doing it this way means if there are any nerves or differences to instruction the student can see this and adapt to the conditions. When a student fails the most common comment we hear is “I have not done that all week” this is what we are trying to avoid with this technique. We hope this helps Simon.
I hope you read this message, how much experience do you need on the road to take this test, for example do I need more than 1 years experience on the road? Or can I pass my car test and instantly go in for my class 1 and 2? Any help advice is appreciated!

@@NationalDrivingCentre excellent thanks
And should your marker align just as it reaches the the start of the yellow box.?
This all depends on the driving School and where they have positioned it.👍
what's the best way to understand the width of a hgv as your driving?
The best thing to do would be to increase your left and right mirrors. I know that sounds easy but increasing the mirrors would make you check your positioning with regards to the left-hand curb or the right-hand centreline in time this will then increase your all-round understanding of the width. Hope this helps Chris Best of luck. 👍👍👍
On test day should the driver put on the hazard lights whilst reversing?
Hello Paddy on test day this is not essential, this can come down to company policy or the companies safe systems of work where you are training. A lot of new vehicles now as soon as you put it into reverse the hazard lights do come on but as we said not a sensual observation and control is the main thing the examiner is looking for when reversing. 👍👍
@@NationalDrivingCentre thank you so much for the reply 👍
Do you start to steer in line the yellow line after the full lock part
Sorry just a little bit unsure of the question. As soon as the tyres start to go backwards that's when we start to steer left heading over towards the yellow line and then parallel to the yellow line. If you have any further questions please give us a call.👍👍
@@NationalDrivingCentre sorry yeah this is what I meant. Your video has Helped me a lot. I have my test today
@@robinsonfamily5752 👍
I failed today. I used the wrong camera for reversing. Will try again hopefully next week if I get a test date. Thank you
What kind license I need for drive those kinda trucks!?
Category C/ Class 2! www.nationaldrivingcentre.co.uk/c-lorry-lgv-training-course-2/
Hi@Harry W , you would need a Class 1 for articulated. So you would need to pass the Category C in this video to then go onto the Class 1/ C+E course.
Thanks
Thanks 👍👍
What about the length of the garage and length of lorry 🚛 when stop reversing in the garage before hitting the barrier what markers to use pl comment
Each company use different markers on different vehicles Raheel👌🏼
Wish I'd seen this before I took my test. It was never fully emphasised how I should have driven close to the B cone on my drive forward. I got too far to the right and was in trouble as soon as I started reversing, touched the yellow line on my right, then went over the cone which I never saw in my mirror.
So sorry to hear that. Hope all goes well for the next one.👍👍👍👍
Good video i love it thanks, but how can i get a Job with you guys, am in cameroon so what can I do?
Thanks Tibab! Come on over to the UK, have the relevant licences and qualifications and you never know!
what about seat belt during this reversing?
This is not a legal requirement when reversing an LGV/PCV. Please have a look at the rules on the GOV website to refresh the law. 👍👍
www.gov.uk/seat-belts-law/when-you-dont-need-to-wear-a-seat-belt
@NationalDrivingCentre I know it's not a legal requirement for reversing but I meant when you are driving forward?
@@JakeC08 if you mean the shunt, then no you will not need to put it on for this, it's all classed one manoeuvre. 👍👍
👍
My instructor told me to get it on full lock before you set off to give more chance of turning
There is no strict time of holding of a licence if you wanna get another one
Thank you so much for your comment.👍
Hi guys. I may have missed it but if you pass the reverse test but fail the actual test, do you need to re-do this part?
Reversing exercise 3a will last for six months, so if you fail 3b the on road drive you have six months to retake the driving test. 👍👍
