  • First of all a very big thank you to Matt Ball, PM Models UK on RUclips, go and watch. He printed the parts out for me saving me time and money👍😎
Material used for the Vac-form canopy:- PETG clear 0.5 mm A5 sheets.
Vac-form machine can be found on eBay under Dental Vacuum Forming Machine.
Software used for creating the 3D CAD models:- Plasticity 1.4.20.
There are some great Plasticity tutorials on RUclips, LEAD (Learn Everything About Design) and Nikita Kapustin just a few to mention.
These ones I found easier to watch and went at a pace I could follow.

From what is visible, the build looks excellent. The mesh solution was another one of your greats. Perhaps the best way to look at the build is that it was the first in which you used CAD to design parts and by all, appearances, that was a major success. I’ve said this before and I’ll repeat it again, your videos make me smile!

Ah Greg, so nice to see both the good and bad parts of the hobby and you never disappoint. So many vids are all nice and safe with their builds and content and rarely do they show the difficulties we all have sometimes. I have many shelved kits because I’ve lost interest or they are just poor kits that I don’t know how to rescue. I’m glad you pushed through and created a magnificent looking model. I hope you regain your love of modelling with your next build. Will be interesting to see what extra brilliance you create with 3d printers but I hope you don’t neglect the amazing scratch building of parts that you do. Keep the faith.

Greg, you turned this junk kit into something that's a joy to look at. As bad as you think it is, I don't think so. It turned out very beautiful.
I didn't have the same luck with my Curtiss Condor, from Glen Coe.

It took me three tries before I had a usable canopy, but it was so worth it. I've got the same dental former model as you have. I didn't know that bottom frame was removeable! I think you did a very good job of this kit. I remember building it way back as a kid and it was a terrible kit even when new. I know what you mean about losing ones mojo through a build, I think it happens to all of us over the years.

I totally understand the feeling. Every time this happens to me, I go to the shelf and look at my gunship model. It was miserable build and I though the end result is bad. Now I can't always remember all of the bad spots that should be there :) Not all our models come out perfect, but each of them precious in their own way.
    Thank you for sharing!

Heroic efforts Gregg, well done mate. It will be great when clear parts can be 3d resin printed with the clarity of plastic. Always enjoy your work arounds and skills.👍

Great stuff Gregg, I think I built (glued) it back in the day, still it was back in 1959, and the moulds all finished by hand. Precision mould making was a high skill job, now I suppose it is all done by CNC

Something easy and fun for the next one is in order I reckon. We enjoy seeing you grapple with a terrible kit, but it would be nice to see you inspired by a good one.

There's another vintage one on the way, but this one is a far better kit to build.

The best example of "if you are in a hole, stop digging" Lol. But what a result, I don't know of another modeller who would have gone to these lengths to build this kit. I had the same kit more years ago I can remember and gave up trying to get it to look anything aproaching the real article. I don't think I even got near to painting it. Love your channel Greg.

Very nice! Thanks for the tip on adding white to the aluminum. Mesh is a great effect.

    Hi Greg,
Love the build, and i know exactly what you mean by losing the will to live with some of the older kits. For some reason i gravitate towards the older kits and do get a deal of satisfaction from overcoming the shortfalls, but i also get very despondent about 2/3 of the way through because the builds do progress at a snails pace.
Anyway, lovely build of the Belvedere. As someone else said, probably the best build of this kit ever.
    Cheers.
