Helpful video.... Would you recommend the garden shades variety on rought-sawn fence panels, or would you go for a stain instead such as the ducksback variety?
Give me the Cuprinol Garden Shades any day. Just used Natural Stone over naff Brown (Red), 2 coats easy to apply & it's looking good. Last year used the Ronseal Brown over Brown covered ok but nasty to work with. Looking forward to the Masonry video, have lots of effervescence to deal with this summer.
My fence hasn’t been painted for approximately 6 years, what should I use on it before painting with Cuprinol please?... did you paint your fence black to match the sleepers?.. can imagine it would look great
Hi Phil, is it worth using something like Shades or Barn Paint on my paneled fencing if I can only have access to paint one side? Obviously from an aesthetic point of view it's worth it is it worthwhile from a protection point of view? Yr thoughts please? I'd think something is better than nothing perhaps?
They do come in at the higher price when it comes to doiya load of fence panels. I usually go for something reasonable priced as you'll re do it in a number of years time. It's more you want something to soak in and protect the surface.
I'm looking to use the duck back version to paint my fences black. My husband is worried that the paint will seep through to the neighbours side. Could I ask your opinion on that please?
Do you not think an exterior stain or creosote substitute would be better on such a thick bit of wood? Always thought the products you've shown were only ever good on shiplap products.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator no, i missed that, will have a look 👍 I did some sleepers in my garden 2 yrs ago during 1st lockdown. I just put them on a trestle stand and gave them a few coats of a creosote substitute, and still looking bob on. The cuprinol you used looked good, we'll know next year I guess lol, think i'm addicted to the smell 🤣🤣🤣
I agree so many poor exterior wood coloured paints out there. Yes Cuprinol garden shades on solid wood brilliant 2 coats job done. Very difficult to find a good paint for rough sawn wood though 😕
@Phil Beckwith The Professional Painter & Decorator Will do thanks. I use Bedec barn paint a lot on exterior wooden window sills in white, never used it on soft wood. Thanks
Dulux Opaque is the best exterior timber paint I’ve used. Very pricey but goes a long way. Coverage is excellent. Mixed from DULUX 5L is around £80, used correctly 10yr guarantee. Water based. I’ve used the oil based also, amazing stuff, covers weathered timber in 1 coat. Ronseal would take 4 coats maybe 5. I only use the Ducksback if using on fencing. Cheers
Here’s the opaque against Wicks own brand, I was using the own brand just to coat the inside of a shed, filmed a quick comparison ruclips.net/user/shortsl_o1464IlS0?feature=share
Have you used Tikkurila Ultra Primer (that's the Uc) and the finish which is Ultra Classic? We used to use Sikkens BL.. then they stopped it... moved on to Tikkurila and wouldn't go back now, customer's house we used the Classic on a good number of years ago has rang to have his outside re done.. asking for the paint we used last time (Tikkurila) as it's stood up better than anything that's been applied before.
Would you use Dulux Opaque on fencing? Would it just go straight on ? And what is the liter coverage, it says up to 20, but I guess on rough saw fences it would not go as far.
I have used this paint on our summer house last about 4 years ago and it lasted quite well (I know I should have done it sooner) I would definitely recommend it, Ronseal fence paint definitely not worth the money, one other thing apart from tradition why are painters overalls white when they use so many colours that will so up
i think its they look cleaner as you'd wash them regular plus white doesn't show up and its used the most, whether it be paint of filler etc also it's a good way to identify the decorating trade.
paintmaster do a affordable oil based barn paint £90 for a 20 litre drum really good gear. palatine paints also do a good oil based log cabin one more expensive though
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator yeah its just a cheesy sales pitch cant believe people fall for it i dont like it cause some customers see that and expect it to last that long.

Hi Tim... Garden shades... Or Bedec Barn paint. Have a look at that video too
I got a bench and table to paint and I thought about using Cuprinol so thanks for this.
Would Cuprinol garden shades be any good using a sprayer?..
Yes. It says it can be sprayed.

Did you sort the efflorescence?
How has the garden shades held up after 2 years? I’m considering this and the Bedec barn paint for my old shed
Very well. Ive not re coated them up this year they've stayed in good condition and colour.

Are you brushing it or will you get a cheap sprayer?
Have you seen the ones I've demo on my channel?

I want to change from silver birch(grey) to muted clay colour. Which is lighter in colour on sleeper. Would I need an undercoat.
No. You should be fine.. just give it an extra coat if you feel it's not covered. It's quite a solid opaque.

What paint did you use on the fence panels?
Some really cheap fence stain waterbase from the local builders merchants, about £8 for 5ltrs, I could spray it was so thin,
What’s that brown paint colour name??
Hi Phil, great video, which paint as opposed to an oil or a stain, would you recommend for patio wooden decking? Something that is very hard wearing?

Interesting!
If second coating with cuprinol do ASAP, otherwise it can skate over the first coat and worst case of fish eyes, especially on smooth timber
👍
Ronseal pure rubbish......do you know the difference between garden shades and ducksback....from cuprinol?....many thanks for video
do tell?
apart from price
