I painted my fences 11 years ago with Cuprinol ‘seagrass’, two coats and have never re painted it. I washed the same fences this summer to get rid of some marks etc and I STILL don’t need to re coat them. This Cuprinol is fantastic stuff!
Great video very informative keep up the great work! Can you help, just had a summer house/ office built, untreated wood, what is best to treat the knots with, and what’s best to treat the wood would it be a clear wood preservative with rot and mildew and uv protection which do you recommend using before I use Cuprinol shed paint? Thank
It’s the out side and is half log lap has loads of knots and is untreated. I was going to treat knots and then paint with same shades product your using in this video, but someone told wife I should treat the wood with a clear preventative first and then undercoat before painting? Thanks
@@Tommyb1508 if you're going for a solid colour for it. The knotts can be treated with Zinsser BIN, spot prime the using the rattle can, you'll find that gives a better finish than badding knotting on. Have you looked at Bedec Barn Paint? ruclips.net/video/q5J8N-lbwJY/видео.html I can't see any need for a clear preservative if you're painting it a solid colour, you wouldn't do that on a gate or door to the garage.
Update: painted my new 8x6, very easy to apply found 1st coat quite watery & it dried onto the timber panels very faintly. After the 2nd coat it still looked quite not there but once fully dried it looked a lot better so didn’t apply a 3rd coat. I used almost x2 5 litre tins
I have a nice garden but just hate the colour of my fence. Looking at vids on RUclips atm and seeing how to do this. Thinking of painting the fences Cupronal - Willow shade. Sorry, I didn't get what shade paint you are using? Thank you for the video! 👍 Oh just realised the paint shade you're using is Fresh Rosemary! 😊
It will depend on the wood of your door. Yes, at a push you could..... But there's better paints out there that would be more suitable for the high traffic use of a front door. If you want an easy paint to prime undercoat and top coat with. Look at Bedec MSP. Or Zinnser AllCoat Exterior satin. If you want to spend a bit more time and get an even better finish. Bedec, advance Undercoat and then the advanced top coat (satin, two coats of that) Or Tikkurila everal aqua undercoat,.. use it as the primer, then the UC. followed by two coats of everal aqua 40. Other brands do similar paints... But I know the above will work... They are all water based. Watch some of my other videos and you see the paints in use.
TBH We don't use retail paint, trade paints are better. Unless F&B and Little Greene etc.. which are the same for everyone. Retail paints are geared towards the DIYER, thinner, easier to apply.. but coverage is less.
Thanks lads. On your advice, i used it and ? Over the moon, good stuff.
Great to hear!
Thanks mate. Really helpful instructions.thanks
You're very welcome!

That's brilliant. Well worth the money
I agree its very rhin. Used my spray gun and a whole 5L tin on an 8 x 6 shed. At 30 quid a tin two coats can be costly.
I’ve just bought Cuprinol Shades to do my fence and was looking for a review online. Thank you for this video.
Hilarious that Brian is apprenticed since 1966, made my day that one 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Well he jointed us at the age of 15.
A year after my dad went self employed in 1965.... The rest is history as they say.
If I ever finish building the summerhouse I might try this
get some while it's on offer ;)
Lovely colour 😍 I'm getting same paint tomorrow 😊
Have fun
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator thanks I sure did 😀 I think I was more covered in it than the fence lol

Hi Tommy. Are we talking inside or out?
Have you watched the other videos yet about staining a shed and painting a shed I've done?

Ye, we use it in the workshop for the pods and shepherd's hut on larch timber, it's OK but needs repainting every year
This was last coated up 6 years ago though.
Great review honestly informative just a great heads-up save people time and money thank you for sharing your knowledge 😊
Thanks for watching!
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Can I use this on my garden fence?
I personally prefer the ducksback range. It's a lot thicker and goes on really easy.
Can’t wait to use coastal mist colour Cuprinol shades on my new shed soon

A family member of mine applied Cuprinol shades “willow” on their garden summer house & it looks very good in a nice green colour
@@tonyl1984 Thank you for letting me know 😊
B&Q are doing buy 2 get one free atm
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator yes I see that too, that’s when I got my ducksback tubs during the April offer 3 for 2 😁
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Thank you so much! 👍
Hi Phil I brought this paint range it says give 8 hrs between coats I'm just painting my gate do I have to give it the 8 hr dry time
don't worry too much, if its all dry coat it back up.
Can I use this on my front door once it’s all sanded down to bare wood?

I’m looking to paint my shed that’s got paint already on it. Which paint do you recommend that will adhere well after a sand and give good coverage?
Nice job does Brian burn his own pots out
yes, he does. then scrubs some shallac around them after being sanded and dusted out.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator wow I thought I was old school that was my friday job bet brian used to use snowcem
How much do you find retail and trade paints compare
TBH We don't use retail paint, trade paints are better. Unless F&B and Little Greene etc.. which are the same for everyone.

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator thanks for the reply!!
Hi is it possible to paint with a paint gun?
I'd say it's thin enough
i think brian would be quicker with a roller?and brush standing on the ground with a pole?just saying....lol,,,,love your vdeos,,,
a roller... a roller?????? do we look like council painters???? lol
more control with the brush, if I wanted speed... the sprayer comes out lol
The stain is really quite thin and you would lose most of it in the roller fabric. Painting it with a brush brings the best results 👍
Cuprinol Shades paint is good, But the price has gone crazy!!!..since the Plandemic..how do they justify the price
Increase?
Think I got three for £30 at B&Q last year
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator cost me £40 for 5L in 22.
Surprised anyone is left alive to do any painting after super scary covid 😉
Yeah Convid has a lot to answer for 😐
It's water based paint so
? 6 years outdoors yeah best a luck on that one
Upto.... Like all paints say..... Upto
