RUclips's Payment Revealed: My Income Update
I've had the Ultra for a few years and I do really like it, but I agree with everything you are saying. The unit gets very heavy to hold for long sessions and it is annoying when it loses prime in the middle of a spray. Also getting all the air out is annoying. I just got a quickshot and I like how it is gravity fed. Also, how is that unit so clean! Every one I have seen has paint all over it from use and cleaning.
Hi Phil great video very informative Hamilton Perfection all the way for me but in the video you scanned over an Acorn27 with the gold band on the handle in my opinion that was the old school Perfection I loved them but that was 40 years ago wish they would remake them , thanks for the info on upvc window paint 👍
Do you keep it after the job or bin it ?
Do you think using Gardz over silk paint is ok before changing to Matt emulsion for a ceiling is the right way to go. Thanks
Phil as a Painter and Decorator for over 50 years I’ve used most makes of paint and always settled on the trade paints of Crown and Dulux mainly using Matt finishes for emulsion, I’ve just completed a job for my youngest Daughter in her new build house, she chose Farrow and Ball Modern Emulsion in a matt finish it was ok but at £120 for 5 litres to me is expensive I don’t no how they justify the cost, I think it’s more of a marketing exercise that’s given them license to charge what they like.
I have used albany durable and vinyl mat and i think for the price its very good i used the durable in white and and i thought for the price it was very good if you want a cheeper good quality paint in emulsion i use albany
Benjamin Moore aura. Any dark colours mate. Two coats and its solid.👍 Walls look sharp mate.👍👍👏👏
3.78ltr cans is annoying though lol
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator yes I do agree, 😢 it covers well, though . So does seem to go far.
for the price it probably is the best
Would you use this on decking? Please 😊
I'd probably go for a paint more geared towards decking.
I picked up one of those Rembrandt brushes on your recommendation. Very nice brush 👍 On a dark feature wall like the one you've got, and taking it that cutting in by hand won't cut it, and you're going to tape up the edges, do you always caulk the edges first? It's not something I do a lot as not my trade but I've found it impossible to get a crisp line without creating a slightly rounded corner with caulk first. And do you ever do the clear caulk trick with tape like they do in the States (like your mate Spencer) to stop bleed through? Never seen anyone do it over here before.
I didn't tape that wall up.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I know! 😄 I mean for those of us who can't get a good enough line by hand in corners.
25 years as a joiner looking at freehanded corners by painters and never seen one that I've thought wouldn't look better if it had been taped. Doesn't taping save time as well?
Sometimes. Normally the Regal or Aura which ain’t cheap. Londoners will pay good money for a good service.
Good informative video Phil. It’s popular in my local brewers.
Hi Phil I have been using Isomat Premium Colour since watching one of your recent videos I love it but it takes a bit of getting used to as cutting in is a bit grabby if you know what I mean I recently used a velspa V&Co and was surprised how lovely it was to apply I did a test in an off cut of new MDF skirting Painted two coats on it Once it had a couple of days to dry i sectioned off into three with masking tape and applied another coat of paint on one and scrubbed the last third with a damp cloth I really scrubbed it to see if it affected the finish Once removing the tape, there wasn’t any difference between the two painted areas That’s good news as it touches in a dream The area that was scrubbed stood out like you would not believe Maybe this is something you should do when testing this so called durable matte paint After all we sell it to a customer with the ability to clean But if it leaves a mark, then it’s no better than cheap vinyl matte Johnstones DM isn’t scrub proof These products need to not show where you have cleaned but there aren’t many that actually do what they say on the tin And any decorator not agreeing with my opinion, test the product you are using yourself That is what I do now Isomat seems to be better than other products but isn’t perfect
In the US i have never pasted this way. I use a paint roller. Works a charm.
The easier option lol Depending on width of paper and also having control on the amount of paste I need to be applying...I have a roller Main thing is not getting excessive paste on the face and too much on that it over soaks
16:21 hell of a ceiling height for a new build.
@@Liverpool1ne yep. But upstairs is standard.
How many times have you used this paint Phil?
Off and on over the last 12months
Jonnos perfect matt for me absolutely love it!
Get Jonnos Cleanable for that price
Surprised just how good Leyland trade durable cols was for the price. Nice and flat . Flys off the shelves at JDC over Johnstones
Only Benjamin Moore 👌Nothing comes close to Scuff-X.
For walls?
Sometimes you can get where the dark durable matt ingredients don't mix well, as its acrylic, where as vinyl, vinyl matt dark colours seems to mix a lot better than acrylic.
Still get flocculation with vinyl Matt paint.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecoratorPhil I totally agree, but the pigments I find tend to more likely to separate with an acrylic durable Matt rather than a vinyl durable matt, and also I suppose it can depend on whether the colour dye is lets say from a Little Greene or F&B as these manufactures tend to have very rich "dark rich" colours. Thanks for the vids
Albany is Crown.
Don't tell everyone.
Used it a lot when I worked for retired folks who didn't have any more than a state pension to rely on, they were always pleased with the finish and the fact that I went out of my way to help them out.@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 😇
its made in the same factory its not crown though its made to brewers specification its not going to be as good as crown though
For anyone who doesn't know much about paint, buy Dulux and you cant go wrong. There's no "flocculation" with Dulux paints. Remember, the fool and his money are easily parted 👍🙄
Are you sure? Maybe your happy to put up with Dulux and Flashing... It's why we stopped using it years ago. And even having the odd tin to 're try again'.... It's no different. Just some don't know what to look for.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Flashing ? Do you mean where people have filled and not spotted in the filler, or spotted in the filler but not allowed it to dry before applying the finish coat ? Let's have a paint off. I'll use Dulux and you use Albany. We'll each paint a ceiling, a wall and a door. We'll bother use brush and roller. Let's see who gets the best results. P.S I don't do losing because losing is for losers ! 👍🤗
£49 ! 😳 I can buy Dulux durable matt for that money.
dulux retail its noway near as nice to apply as this and doesn't cover as good retail paints don't compare to trade paints
@@jackwardley3626 I buy Dulux trade paints. I'll challenge them to show their paint is better any day. It's not and it's crap ! 👍
After much toing and froing ended up going with BM Ben. Decorator centre assures me it’s 40 times more durable than Jonnos Durable Matt - we will see! Was put off heritage as some suggestions that it is not wipeable even when not used in a kitchen etc. The missus wasn’t having that (even though I have never seen her wiping any painted walls - wasn’t brave enough to tell her that!
For kitchens you need the heritage Eggshell on the walls. I've had velvet Matt fail in a kitchen above the worktop tiles etc
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I must have misled you. I wasn’t using it in a kitchen but know of the problems. I am decorating a hallway and others have experienced poor durability with Heritage Matt in these areas as well.
I have never used that paint. But I'll bet money that it's crap 👍😂
And you've never used it and you're comparing it to what paint? LoL
Used it many times it’s excellent paint.
its very good stuff especially for the price
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I'm not comparing it to any other paint. It's brewers own brand and I know brewers well enough to know they will buy in the cheapest crap they can to make as much money off it as they can. I'll challenge the best painters in the world to a paint off. In fact if they put together a 10 man team I'll take the whole lot on by myself and I'll beat them. 👍🤗
For me dulux heritage is the best I’ve ever used in terms of flow and coverage, if i wanted a bulletproof paint I’d use crown clean extreme, but this paint does look good nonetheless!
It's the nearest you'll get to Crown Clean Extreme ;)
I stopped using Dulux Diamond Matt, it kept ripping off as you roller each section. Dulux Heritage is much better & gives a great finish. No complaints so far re durability. Most clients are v happy when using Crown clean extreme, virtually no sheen & washable. I will give Albany a try Phil, thanks.
This paint is pants don't buy it
What's the reason buddy. Genuine question.
Yes why?
Poor quality product ...no opacity and not washable marks very easily.
@@user-jp8rh4cd9o ok. I've only tried it once and it was the same colour thing over again so cannot comment. I usually use tikkurila optivia 5 but I've just used it in a colour called tallow and it took 5 coats. Think I'll go back to johnos durable Matt
Try it for yourself and see the results. Trust me it a poor quality paint ...he's only used the paint once ,I have used this product many times on site ..marks easily and no opacity..johnstones durable matt all day long .
Used it today. Really impressed.
Great video Phil, don’t have Brewers near me so can’t use. Don’t like ordering paint online. Surprised to see you using a mini roller to cut in. In previous videos you have been very dismissive of this. Did someone promise you a 911 to convert lol.
The name is down for a GT3RS lol Only on dark colours as mentioned in the video. I didn't need to use it on the other 4 rooms.
Thanks Phil, very informative, I tend to use durable emulsions so this may well be suitable for me. I’ll give it a go on my next room. May be a while as I’m a DIY painter not a professional.
I’ve been a dyed in the wool DIY user of Dulux and Crown products but having viewed many of your videos I’m now persuaded to try some others so the room I’m about to decorate I will be skimming the walls and plan to use Zinsser Gardz as a primer then Johnstones durable Matt vinyl. I’m keen to see the results having departed from my previous efforts and gone with some different products. By the way I plan to use gloss brush killer on my woodwork. Here’s to trying new things.
There's no need to use Gardz on new plaster TBH. It's a bit overkill.
What would you recommend to put over the new plaster Phil?
Armstead contract matt@@stevethorndale231
Used Albany for the last 3 commercial jobs, normal vinyl Matt, durable Matt, soft sheen, even the acrylic eggshell .. I would say it’s a good paint for the price range, and agree for some colours needed 3rd coat, but I started adding a bit of water for the final coat and worked well.. make sure you mix Albany well with your wiz every time 👍🏻
I hand painted my front door in zinsser all coat satin mixed to farrow and ball pigeon. I didn’t prime it but sanded it lightly first and then gave it two coats,it’s been on for 4 years and looks just as good as when I first did it. I got so many comments from the neighbours who loved the colour and thought it was a brand new door so was well chuffed.
Heads up for all, Brewers have 5 litre cans of vinyl durable emulsion on offer at the moment. The brilliant white is on sale for less than the 2.5 litre can at £39.98 for 5 litres and I got 5 litres of the tinted version for around £49, fill your boots people.
Sorry all that’s Johnstones paint I’m referring to.
You'll like this evening's video
Phil would you recommend this over F£B modern eggshell ?? Thoughts please 👍🏻👍🏻
Both hard wearing. Everal Aqua can be used outside. Wouldn't go wrong with either
I have a high gable end wall to do, on your other video you started at the bottom and the top on this. What do you recommend is better?
It depends where the stain is coming from... The bottom or from the top?
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator there is no actual staining it is just a problem wall.
@@LeeA-R-p1c what sort of problem?
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator thanks, started at the top and have hung 2 sheet today, hopefully do the rest tomorrow
It's should sell for 15, 20 bucks. It's plastic for the love of God.
What do you do about the inside of the door frames Phil? Do you brush them out first?
You can brush those at start if you want . Or tape up and spray them in. I've videos on spraying doing that
😅 I love Mike’s interaction in this video. I can hear the voice in his head. “Yeah alright mate”
Would you use it to do all the woodwork in a new build
If you've loads to do. I'd go for a bigger unit that can handle more paint. Gxff for example
Defo
What would you use for restaurant kitchen wall? Something that I can wash any dirt from, with out wasing paint off please?
Look at Isomat premium color.. that's on other videos
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I was planning to try Leyland trade hardwearing matt, but thanks, will try your stuff.
Think you could use something like this for automotive?
It'll depend what you're spraying.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I'm spraying a 91 civic with whatever paint I can get my hands on
Yes Phil 😱
Quick question for you I have the qtech 5 stage, and I'm just wondering about needle size for spraying 2k for kitchens. I've only ever used water-based, and I'm looking for Quicker drying times
Did you watch my 2K paint spraying video the other week?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I did that was on a Window frame u used a 1.5 needle. I was just wondering if that needle size would be the same for cabinets because as I've said never used 2k
@@jasonhughes6994 yes. But to 2k stinks
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator have u any recommendations for getting it done that bit quicker, or could u do a video on it because I'm sure a lot of people would like to know.
@@jasonhughes6994 how quick do you want to do three or four costs?
Go on then why not
Thanks for this video mate! I'm useless at putting things together and doing stuff like this... This video helped me paint my mums fence. Appreciate it ❤
Glad I could help
Morning Phil. Slight I.T issue hence repeated message. Zinseer Gardz / No Nonsense Bare Plaster Paint ( Screwfix) or 50/50 Water / Paint mix. Too many opinions on The Tube !?!? JG
Morning Phil. If you had to choose, would it be Zinsser Gardz or No Nonsense Bare Plaster Paint ( Screwfix) onto New plastered ceiling. Excellent Channel by the way. JG
Unless a problem bare surface, no need to use Gardz on new plaster. Go with the bare plaster printers. Tikkurila Optiva Primer. Isomat 2in1 Screwfix plaster primer Or equivalent
I'll give the Screwfix 'No nonsense' a punt.@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
It’s cracking stuff. Got dogs and for touching up surface mark scratches and grime marks it’s great.
Well done Phil, I was interested in the prep pre spray and products you used. Look forward to the woodwork with the quickshot. The flooring prep board I assume it’s a one time use?
Coming soon! Next week. Prep board you can re use, depends how much damage you do to it taking it up lol
