    Everyone complains about third coats but it’s not like oil based gloss over days and days. You can easily get two on in a day, perhaps three and whilst other paints may colour match they will never quite be the same as the true F&B if that’s the colour you’re set on. Bit inconvenient but I’m sure the finish will be superior to two coats of another paint and more durable being the modern eggshell (floor paint).

    Well done Phill, looking good. For a cheaper kitchen you’ve now given it a modern look and good few more years. A lot cheaper than a new kitchen. Look forward to seeing the next stage in the make over. 👌

    Looks very nice. Love the metameric effect you get with F&B eggshell. I painted the outside of a door with the Estate Lulworth Blue (No.89). Colour varies from blue grey to almost a sky blue, depending on the light.

    How close would you say the finish on the doors are to a spray finish, it sure looks nice but hard to see on the video. Talking of the undercoat we use some black acrylic concentrate to add it to the dark grey undercoat if we feel it needs to be darker, used it recently, some components I left dark grey and you could definitely see which ones I added the black to

    Hi Phil, really invaluable series showing full process, equipment and technique etc.. Thank you sir🙏. My question is, what paint system would you use to paint new/raw, MDF doors. I was thinking firstly Aqua Bin to prime them, because I've got some! But would this also serve as an u/c before 2 top coats (i.e. 3 coats total)? Or, do I use hand in glove u/c on top of the Bin, (i.e. 4 coat system)? Or perhaps 2 coats of Bin before 2 topcoats? Thanks in advance.
    Oh, the doors are to be white, so no potentially difficult colours to overcome. Cheers

    Hi Phil. Had to repaint and respray a few kitchens in the last few months that had been painted in farrow and ball. Around the handles and in various areas had started to soften and peel due to kitchen cleaners and finger grease. It’s just not durable enough. Give Sayerlack AT99 a try with the crosslinker xa4080. Can be sprayed or rollered and is very durable and chemical resistant. Would easily cover in 2 coats, maybe even 1. It’s a proper factory kitchen finish.

  • @grahamstacey3149

    Great video Phil👍. I’ve not used F&B on a kitchen yet but had a similar ‘glazing’ issue you mentioned using Tikurilla Helmi 30. I used the same application as you except everything was done with a 5mm 2FB roller. Kitchen I did was in a poor state and I had to strip everything back to bare wood and used Zinsser BIN as base primer. I noticed the glazing effect was worse with the Helmi primer going over the BIN which I found odd. I also had the same effect to a much lesser extent with the. Helmi 30 top coats. So maybe it’s not just a F&B paint issue?

      @@GlennPreston66 fair play to you for doing it. From what Phil and others have said about the durability of this floor paint it’s an investment if it lasts and stays fresher for longer so hopefully your extra work pays off in the long run.

      @@Liverpool1ne I don't think it's any better quality than something like Johnno's Aqua Guard or durable eggshell. And it's treble the price. In my experience, F&B colours just don't cover very well, either. Nice colour range, though...

    • @Liverpool1ne
      @Liverpool1ne 4 месяца назад +1

      @@GlennPreston66 must admit I am a fan of Aqua Guard even if Phil doesn’t rate it. The colours just don’t come out the same so I suppose the question is, assuming all priced for, is a three coat F&B kitchen a better overall finish to a two coat finish using another brand. And if so is it worth the premium if the labour and materials cost more. Some people will always want to say ‘it’s a Farrow and Ball kitchen’ but I think there may be more to it than that.

    I possibly would have looked at Benjamin Moore Scuff X satin or Dulux Heritage Eggshell Phil. I like F&B but as you say, the undercoats can cause a bit of grinning on certain shades. I had it with studio green a few weeks ago, gladly i was spraying so it wasn't a big deal to buzz over it a 3rd time. I do generally try to get customers over to Benjamin Moore these days, although expensive it's absolutely bomb proof and always covers for 2. 👍
    Edit..noticed you used the Smith & Roger Flow and Bond, did you put it into your topcoats? I used it for the first time on Friday as my Owatrol ran out and I noticed it says on the label to not use it in the topcoat. Wondered if you noticed any difference if you did? Cheers mate, Phil

    I think it would have to be £900 minimum. My day rate is £160 per day which is quite low for my area in Kent. Any less why bother taking the job on due to the high level of finish required and the risk reward ratio. Just stick to "normal" work instead.
    £900 still sounds cheap when you consider the customer is saving thousands on replacing the kitchen and having all the upheaval involved.
    I don`t know how it would compare price wise to the kitchen door replacement companies. So there is that to consider I guess,
