    Quick tip: in the _Options_ menu save to ANYTHING but Quick Time. For some reason, even if you saved it to 4k it will show some blurriness when saved to Quick time (default). You can see it on the screen recorded on the video where the quality of Brad camera vs the screen record. Even it is in 4k. The issue I have is when I export the screen shot from FCP (I have tried several custom formats when uploading in FCP) but all are worst than screen recorded initially on the Macs. GREAT TUTORIAL, nonetheless!

      @@Brad_West I also struggle to find or learn (I didn't research enough) how to have a talking head video in my screen recording that can for example have me in a circle, or a soft edges square. I also like an effect when letters or an object slightly hovers as it comes up, creating animation in Final Cut Pro is another one I am keen to learn. Thank you in any event

      I know that Dylan Bates (The Final Cut Bro) has a tutorial on how to create a talking head in a circle effect and he also has a ton of other Apple motion tutorials that will help you with animation if you’re interested in checking that out.

    Fantastic tutorial Brad! Wish I had this when I had first started out. Fun fact that might save you a few seconds of time. If you press CMD + SHIFT + 5 it will enable you to take a screen recording (by selecting the screen recording option at the bottom) without the need to open Quicktime. You can choose the location where it saves the videos, but by default it's on the desktop. Take it or leave it haha!

      Thank you Dylan. Do you know what quality the CMD + SHIFT + 5 uses? E.g. 4K etc. I only knew about this technique (I didn’t realise there was another way through QuickTime). I just cannot find on the internet what quality this will be using. Thanks in advance.

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  Год назад +1

      Cmd Shift 5 will use the resolution of your screen. If you’re using a MacBook without an external monitor connected, you can go to the Apple icon in the top left hand corner and select About This Max. Go to Displays and you’ll see the resolution you will record at. If you have an external monitor connected, you will record at whatever that monitors resolution is 😄

    I'm sure the zoom prolly works fine (that's what I use with my lav mics) not sure if u know about loopback to your daw with a focusrite or iShowU or soundflower. Super easy to set up and sounds good especially if u have a 3rd gen focusrite or any other audio interface that has the loopback function. U prolly know all that already tho lol

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  2 года назад

      Yeah I’ve used the soundflower method before but I like having a relatively portable solution with less cables so I move my mic stand around and leave the mic and zoom attached to it 😊👍🏼

      @@Brad_West I hear that! Yeah I used to use the soundflower too, the iShowU is a little better, but the internal loopback from an interface is way better especially for streaming which is how I found out about it. I may actually use my zoom sometimes now that I was thinking about it for similar reasons as u mentioned.

    Hi Brad, subbed!
    I screen record with QT and exported in 4k as you suggested. But when I edit in FCP and try to zoom in 150%, it's very blurry. Definitely not as clear as your videos. I created the project in 4k, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Wondering if you can share your FCP setup.
    Any ideas?

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  Год назад

      Thanks for the support Jason! What is the resolution of your monitor? Is it 4K? For example, if you have a Macbook and you plug in a 1080p monitor to do the screen recording, the source file will be 1080p. If you unplug the monitor and record your Macbook screen, the source file will be 4k.

    • @jasonleefinance

      @@Brad_West Hi Brad - I'm recording using a Macbook Air 13" and I export the footage in 4K. I'm even using a 1080p timeline in FCP to edit. Still blurry. I tried editing the same footage in Capcut, and it turned out quite clear. I think its my FCP project or export settings? Would you mind sharing your settings?

      @@jasonleefinance So weird! yeah sure, I use 4K timelines, 23.976fps. Apple ProRes 422 Codec with s standard REC.709 color space. Is that what you're using in FCP?

    Another great video, thanks! Why do you create a Multicam clip for this task instead of Synchronize Clip? Do you add your explanation clip as another angle at the end? I watched your 'How to do Multicam Editing in Final Cut Pro | FCPX Tutorial' and it too was great. Doing color grading with the multicam looks super simple vs copy/paste attributes for each clip.

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  3 года назад

      Thanks for watching! 😊🙏🏼
      Like I said, there are multiple ways to synchronize a clip and I use multicam clips a lot for other things, so it’s mostly habit that I choose to use multicams for this. Sometimes I’ll record myself, my screen and my audio at the same time and in those instances I’d be using a multicam anyway. If you just have a screen recording clip and your audio the. Creating a synchronized clip is perfectly fine 😊👍🏼
      I hope that answers your question 🤞🏼

    Do you ever do screen recording videos with your webcam or camera at the same time, then have your video in the bottom corner of the screen recording? Curious if Final Cut Pro does that kind of video easily. Screenflow does it, but i'm looking for a better editor.

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  2 года назад +1

      I don’t personally do that but you can record two separate video files using QuickTime and then sync them in FCP. That would give you total control of the way they look and would be really easy to do in FCP.
      In QuickTime head over to File > New Movie Recording to record the webcam and then go to File > New Screen Recording to record your screen. Sync those up in FCP, scale the clip of you down and you’re good to go 😊👍🏼

    Question for you: I believe QuickTime records at 60fps. I typically like to record my talking head video at 24 fps. What would you recommend for video frame rate and project frame rate settings?

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  28 дней назад +1

      You’ll definitely want to set your project to 24fps to match the talking head. FCP will drop the necessary frames on the screen recording for the smoothest playback. 😄👍🏼

    How do sync screen recording with camera recording? I think I made the mistake of A-cutting the camera recording without the screen recording.

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  6 месяцев назад

      If you have audio on the screen recording you can probably just let FCP sync it automatically in your multicam clip. Otherwise, look for the first time you click on something and line up the audio of that first mouse click from your camera. Hope that helps!

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  11 месяцев назад

      That’s a weird error. I’ve had a similar error in the past. What I would do is drag the screen recording file from Finder onto the timeline. Sometimes doing that refreshes FCP’s link to the clip. Then you can delete it. Let me know if it works?

    Excellent video! Thanks! -- Quick question about Screen Capture in QT - Is there a way to adjust the capture framerate? In my experience it has been fairly inconsistent and also way higher than I need it to be (usually between 57-60 fps). As a result there's often a bit of drifting, especially in a long videos. I put up with it because it's way sharper than anything else I've tried, but I'd really love to get it to just record at 24p.

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  2 года назад +1

      Yeah it would be nice to change the frame rate! Mine is also at 60fps. I haven’t experienced any drifting in my videos but that’s a frustrating problem to have. If you’re willing to spend some money, something like Screenflick allows you to change the frame rate.
      Thanks for watching Paul!

    • @paulparker4998
      @paulparker4998 2 года назад

      @@Brad_West For sure!
      It's ultimately a fairly minor drift - maybe 1 frame every 10 minutes or so - I wouldn't even notice if I wasn't multi-tracking my audio separately in Logic.
      But thanks! I'll check out Screenflick - how does the quality hold up against Quicktime?
      I've also tried is OBS, but there was a significant loss in quality (even at the highest/lossless compression options)

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  2 года назад +1

      For such a minor drift I would probably keep using QuickTime and the manually retime the video file to match the audio.
      I’d make a marker at a noticeable point in the audio file at the beginning and at the end and then make markers on the video file and the exact same point. Retime the video clip so that the markers line up on both ends. That would solve the drift problem.
      In terms of the quality, screenflick claims to be a high quality screen recorder (I haven’t tried it) but Screenflow is a good quality one, I just can’t remember if you can change the frame rate.
