104 Year Old Nighthawk Colt Project Done - After Almost 9 Months

  • This is part 2 of a previous video I did in June of 2022. It's taken 9 months for part 2 because this now 104 year old Colt Black Army 1911 was at Nighthawk Custom undergoing their Nighthawk Colt treatment.
I won't bother to list what was done to the inside and outside of the Colt, that's all covered in the video. Suffice to say that this is now even more amazing than it was 9 months ago. A cool piece of history from 104 years ago that can now function like a modern, custom 1911. The 3.75lb trigger pull is incredible. The finish is absolutely stunning considering what they had to work with. This was not a pristine project Colt to begin with. Nighthawk worked their magic and this Colt Black Army is just gorgeous.
I realize some may not agree with my decision to have this work done. For those who have angst with this, you do you and I'll do me.

That is a gorgeous restore. I picked up a Colt Combat Commander 9mm resto mod circa 2023. I got a fantastic deal and looked at a lot of work that had been performed. Bob is quite a unique man. He and others on that test target are part of the American Pistol Smith Guild. They submit a pistol as example of their work for consideration. The "Custom Shop" at Nighthawk is separate group of gifted skilled craftsman. You are gonna have a lot of fun with that shooting artwork.

this is alot like my 1942 colt 1911a1. army. the former owner had a crazy amount of custom work done to it. and like your pistol it came with a shoe box containing all the original parts plus a micro adj sight and 3 two tone mags one key hole mag and two very early 1911-1912 magazines. the kicker to all of this is that the guy at the local gun shop explained how the custom work made it almost worthless so i asked how worthless he responded 300$ to witch i said sold! and handed him the money! i later sold the two tone mags for twice what the whole lot cost me!

You must be REALLY hard up for cash? It wouldn't have taken much effort at all to get twice that much from a private sale. That's why I don't believe in safe queens. I shoot the crap out of my guns; because after I'm gone, some desperate idiot might wind up with my gun(s) and sell them for chump change.

I think taking an old piece of history (especially one that is not in perfect/pristine condition) and having work like this done to it makes it beyond special. I've seen were others have had a family name engraved to add to the heirloom factor. Not everyone agreed with my decision to do this, but since they aren't paying for the work their opinion doesn't count ;-)

Thereès defiitely a market for 1911ès 'tunedÈ up. With mater gunsmiths doing their magic. e.g. jason burton, Chuck Roger...etc...who might also do what Nitghthawk i doing (old body new unternal 'refreshing')..like hwat Singer is to Porscheès ( old 60ès or 70ès 911bodies with modern day brakes, suspension, electrnics and engine). WHy notÉÉ :) Something I prefer...though i would add a 'mag well' still.....
Wonder if any one is doing '1911 rstorations'É Just 'refreshening' internal worn out parts and taking out any wear marks. making it function as it did when it was new. :) For those wanting a A'close to original' 1911.
How much did this costÉÉ YOu provided the 'starting poit gun' (body and internal parts that didnt need replacing)ÉÉ Is it cheaper than buying a modern day NighthawkÉÉ Or even more expensive than a 'custom orderéoptions ' 1911ÉÉ

@@ReLoadersBench About what I expected actually. I could pick up a colt 70 series for around 1k or less and then for 2k have this done and have 3k in it. That is reasonable compared to what a new Nighthawk, Ed Brown, Or ACW cost. I might have to look for one. I cant say that I dont also wish it was cheaper.

    • @ReLoadersBench

@@jjay718 - I'm a big believer it you get what you pay for. Considering the condition of the Colt before I sent it (see original video), they when through it with a fine tooth comb and actually did more to it than they list on the Colt Nighthawk description page. What I ended up with was now a 104 year old Colt 1911 that functions better than it probably did on day one in 1919. It's tight, smooth looks BEAUTIFUL (to me) and shoots great. I think taking an old Colt and giving it a second life only increases its value/worth (not necessarily financial value/worth) to me. It's also now an heirloom. Double win. Others may disagree, but that's fine with me.
