My Tisas Service Special, which I bought on sale for 300 dollars, stacks up extremely well to any newly made Colt at many times its price. It's made of billet steel that is hardened before machining, it's highly accurate, tightly fitted, feeds anything, and is reliable enough that I trust it enough to carry it daily. Plus its fit and finish are superb. Colt would have to really focus to match this level of quality and performance.
That is interesting because I have been looking at one of those Tisas and needed some feedback. For the money it seems like a tough act to follow. The reason they are so affordable is basically because of the ridiculously high cost of everything in the USA, thanks to Bidenomics, versus Turkey where the Tisas is manufactured.
@@steveforbes8287 Another good alternative to the Tisas depending on availability in your area is Rock Island Armory. I have their ROCK Standard FS 1911, and it has been flawless. Fit and finish is good, has the beavertail, ambi extended safety, and better than GI sights. Got mine for $400.
@@rockylindgren5885 Tisas frames are fine, they're remarkably catholic about accepting parts from various manufacturers... but you're right about the feedramp angle, unless they've fixed that.
The name is the only thing making them still relevant. So many companies doing them better and cheaper. Of course it needs to say colt to make it a "real" 1911. I'll keep my STI as my most used and loved 1911, bit my Colts will always be cherished.
Somewhere between the nice forgings and the machining, they drop the ball, big time, come on Colt. Colt is being beaten by manufacturers in Turkey, FFS!
I would never pay more than 600 bucks for a 1911s I have. Tisas B45 in a black finish with ambi safety for $525 out the door, it’s forges steel with 70s internal that a not mim parts. My dad said he paid $290 bucks for his 1911 in1970 and it’s a Colt I grew up shooting. My dad’s Colt shoots and functions no better than my Tisas 1911 45 of today. I just clean, oil and shoot it which it performs flawlessly.
Can someone please tell me why the Gold Cup(s) are so rare? I have been searching since February, and IF I locate one, the seller is asking way above retail.
I own many colts going back 20 years ago , I wish to purchase more but it's not really colt anymore they're a different owner of a foreign country is it wrong that I feel that way I'm not sure.
Colt missed the boat 30 years ago. I’m a Colt fanboy but the reality is they need to focus more on modern designs. I love they are finally looking to make the 1911 modern but they need a polymer pistol. The fact a foreign company has had our pistol contract for the military is embarrassing.
Colt should make everything series 70 for starters. I have a Gold Cup Trophy. I want the Custom Carry Limited but in series 70 firing mechanism. I also want a CCU CCO but with series 70 firing mechanism.
I've been collecting colts for 45 years and my number one is the gold cups at one time I had 37 colt gold cups all in 45 acp but in the 2008 I had to let go of 25 of them I know I went a little overboard my obsession cost me 2 divorces
I never realized I was a fan of the 1911 until I purchased a RIA 45 auto. So now I’m interested in a premium quality 1911 in 45 auto. Do I want a genuine colt? I will never get rid of my RI since it’s a nail driver! I’ve never owned a pistol so accurate and easy to handle. My friend claims every 1911 is this way…..
Any of the Big 4 will make high-end premium grade 1911. Wilson, Ed Brown, Les Baer, or Nighthawk. They all make great, hand fitted, 1911s. They differ in build philosophy. Les Baer builds no frills, pure 1911, no nonsense social work pistols. No French borders, no fluted barrel hoods, no flat topping, no 40 LPI checkering on the rear of the slide with matching extractor head, no bushingless cone barrels with reverse crowns. Wilson has a lot of these fru fru features. And the price reflects the hand labor. Ed Brown is somewhere in the middle. Very clean and pure form 1911 but with a lot silkier feel. EB's Executice series would feel right at home with a Rolex and Brook brothers suit and tassled loafers. But make no mistake, they make some serious social work pistols too. Their Special Forces 1911 is all business, which would be just right for an SF colonel to put into his kit bag or slide under his dinner jacket to attend an embassy cocktail as the ambassadorial attache.
Last time I checked they still didn’t have the slide fit of a Ruger or for that matter a Rock Island. They should either lead on fit and finish or get out of 1911s. Also they should get rid of the failure prone series 80 lock works completely especially with California’s handgun roster being overturned, only Kimber and Taurus use a firing pin safety for the most part. If a company as big as S&W or Ruger starts production of a 1911 and decides there’s no need for it, I mean Colt produced it for over 70 years without one. Colt seems to forget the terrible 1911s they made in the late 80s with common mistakes on pinhole position and Brittle slides. I have no problems bragging a little but admit their past mistakes and above all tell the truth and make customer service and warranty a top priority. I do give Colt some points for their reintroduction of the Python and Anaconda. But how about some advancements in the history of those revolvers, say a 10mm Python on its 41 caliber frame or a Anaconda in 45 Winchester magnum which is rated for magnum loads instead of the past chambering of 45 Colt. Both chamberings could use full moon clips making them better combat revolvers. Also neither were ever made in 5” barrels, the prime length for a revolver, unlike the 1911,the SAA at least were made in 4 3/4”. Give us a match grade 1 “ to 1 1/2” accurate Gold Cup in 9mm(ick), 45acp and 10mm in 5”. For the same $1,499 as a Python as well. You could call the 10mm a Gold Cup Trophy Hunter. Make the fit and finish immaculate with no sharp edges( light dehorning) and above all make all your Premier handguns available in both stainless and Royal Blue. If today’s Colt can’t reproduce a Royal Blue they Aren’t really Colt.
I wish colt cared about their QC. I just bought a Dan Wesson over a colt due to the F&F on the guns. My grandfathers 1990 colt custom carry commander example looks like the gun was made with a hammer and an angle grinder. Terrible F&F. Same with newer firearms (QC, not necessarily F&F with modern machinery).
Bought a commander in 78 , it stovepiped / jammed out of the box ,, over the years I had others. All were failures, the only 1911 that ever ran flawlessly were custom
Hopefully, CZ will crack the whip on Colts QC like they did with Dan Wesson 1911s so Colt can be competitive with Dan Wesson and other companies. Colt finally started using CNC machines in the early 2000s. Prior to that, Colt's QC was poor. Harsh machine swirl marks, parts that don't fit right, slide to frame fit wirh serious under bite and over bite, just shameful levels of assembly. Springfield Armory has beaten Colt in Quality Control. SA used to make garbage 1911s in the 1990s when I worked in a gun shop. We returned tons of them. Horrible fit and finish. SA cracked down and now produce well made and well fitted 1911s even at their basic GI models.
Colts quality standards have dropped so low I'm ashamed. I recently treated myself to what I thought was an upgrade over my Springfield Armory. I purchased a gold cup lte nm seies 70 stainless. Less than 100 rounds I noticed unusual wear on the barrel bed. Sent it back to them received it back stating " it's normal wear and meets Colt standards" I've hot well over 3,000 rounds in my Springfield and it looks brand new
All good talk, talk is cheap though. Will Colt deliver? I WAS a Colt fan boy in the past, owned 4 Colts. I was proud of the name, but the " quality " was abysmal. Have also seen Colt Inc. transfer ownership, even seen a " Lt. Col " at the helm and promised things will improve. Nowadays, when thinking of 1911 to buy, I look to other brands, even foreign made ones. Buying Colt now is like buying Pontiac, or Oldsmobile, or Rambler, etc.etc.
That’s absolutely true, and it’s sad, I would love to own a Colt, however they are stuck on stupid with their manufacturing ways. However, according to this guy, they have nice springs, actually, they don’t. This dual spring arrangement that they have is an absolute cluster.
Hmmmmmmmmm... My 1965 Pontiac Tempest, LeMans and GTOs were damn good cars! I never owned a Rambler but, wouldn't say no to finding an old ANY Pre-1970 Rambler/AMC parked in my driveway today. Compared to cars of today, those were the Bee's Knees! LOL
Staccato is the new colt. Colt, historically has been one of the most important companies for modern small arms development. As of recently, attempting to discontinue non contract sales and even more recent, tragically abysmal CQ issues combined with the unwillingness to innovate has turned many people including myself and my customers away from colt products. Where colt has failed, companies like STI/staccato, infinity fireams, atlas gunworks etc etc have taken the 1911 platform to new heights. These companies offer the quality that you used to expect from colt and then some while innovating and pushing the envelope on what the 1911 platform could be. Ironically sam colt and John browning were innovators, always looking for the next big breakthrough in design. You are absolutely diluted if think either one would be satisfied if they knew the 1911 as remained relatively unchanged for over 100 years while their names are used as a greedy cash grab.
Just slip an extra Wilson 8 rounder magazine in your back pocket. Or an extra 10 rounder or two in the pouch. Most double stack 9mm mag pouches will hold 2 1911 single stack mags.
Lol at the local range Iv very quietly and with much mirth watched a Norinco pos .45 walk circles around a Colt 1911, was actually really sad considering the Norinco had tooling marks basically all over it and built in a sweat shop in CHIna.
Yet, you fill the pistol with cheap, injection-molded parts. And a phenolic mainspring housing? I paid $294 for a 38 Super pistol in 1978. Everything was from billet. I pay over $1,000 for a 38 Super comp model and all the small parts are MIM? That's my carry gun and I had to change the trigger group to expensive aftermarket sear, hammer & disconnector.
I love 1911's, but how hard can it be to skip fixed iron sights!? Just do it ffs! I want to be able to adjust my sights without having to use an iron file!
If these 1911s didn’t have a Pony on them, they be mid tier. Hey Colt, who makes your forging? S&W… Colt today is not the Colt of yesteryear, only similarity is the logo.
Because Colt doesn't make magazines. Check-Mate has made the Colt-branded magazines for years and years. Still, pretty cheesy to not bother with the Colt branding.
The 1911 was basically the start of modern handgun shooting for law enforcement and the department of defense so he wasn’t lying. Colt rifles are still used by a lot of departments and are still in inventory in a lot of base armories

I bought a new Gold Cup National Match in 9mm and it is a real quality JOKE!! The Slide is so sloppy that there are marks on the back of the slide where the Hammer has touched it repeatedly. The slide has a great deal of play in it, so much so that it wiggles back and forth and rattles! I cannot get it to sight in or group on target. You have to depress the magazine release to in sept a magazine. the magazine will not slide by the catch!! Very disappointed in the purchase of a new Colt 1911!! You guys made the 9011 awesome and so cool 😎 👍 👏 👏 👏 ❤
I can’t believe my ears when I ask somebody what kind of gun do you have and they answer I have a 45 and I look at it and it’s not a colt, you’ve not had a 45 until you owned a colt 45.
I buy a norinco 1911a1. Much better quality than Colt.
I love my Colt 1911s , will never sell them.
Awesome. Keep up the great work. Absolute gorgeous American icon pieces. I’d love to have any one of these Colts from the video! Thanks.
IMO, too bad Colt is located in a state that hates the 2nd Amendment and firearms.
Yeah? And? Obama won Florida in the 2012 election. Means absolutely nothing today. Our country swings back and forth politically.

@@billrowan1957 lol!
As a Connecticut resident, I concur
That's actually a good thing that way colt can rub it in their faces 😅 the second amendment will always stand firm
Good thing that Colt is guiding dan wesson, they need all the help they can get.Coming from what ive seen on the DW floor.
Love those girsan-tisas-rock island price tags
Tisas understands the phrase, " dont be greedy & put out quality products"
Couldn't agree more!
Yeah that must be why they're feed ramps are consistently cut at the wrong angle and their frames are woefully out of spec, okay buddy
@@rockylindgren5885 Tisas frames are fine, they're remarkably catholic about accepting parts from various manufacturers... but you're right about the feedramp angle, unless they've fixed that.
Isn't Colt owned by CZ?
I have a m45a1 from the custom shop . The green box. They reay need to look at blending & fitment. It's sub standard to say the least.
But you paid for that didn't you?
Have a few 1911s have a new classic it is as accurate as some customs I have..like it alot
It's like a Fender Stratocaster guitar.
Widely copied
Fairly unchanged from original design
Instantly recogniseable
Simple yet functional
Yet. you probably didn't touch a Fender when they sold out to CBS.
I think you missed his point sparky !
I have a colt rail gun that was a birthday gift. Love it.
I need the classic edition series 70 so bad
Colt just can’t seem to get it together, despite what this guys says, their tolerances are STILL all over the place, come on COLT, get it together.
I thought CZ would make changes.
They failed to do so
My father has a Colt series 80
Would loke to have one but can't afford it, so got myself an RIA instead, not complaining though. Love my 1911 lol
I love my 1911, it was made in the mountains with a boxful of scraps, by a family of filipinos lol
The name is the only thing making them still relevant. So many companies doing them better and cheaper. Of course it needs to say colt to make it a "real" 1911. I'll keep my STI as my most used and loved 1911, bit my Colts will always be cherished.
Good pistol of Colt 1911 model
They need to make More SAAs - but they have to make them just like the ones in the 2000 to 2015
Somewhere between the nice forgings and the machining, they drop the ball, big time, come on Colt. Colt is being beaten by manufacturers in Turkey, FFS!
Made in usa is overrated 😂
At 5:12, Those look like castings!! Would someone explain that?
Double stack poly lower 9mm in a 1911 style. Time to evolve Colt. You also need to move to a pro gun state.
Gold Cups aren’t rare, in fact, they’re VERY common. My local gun store has plenty of them.
Don't stop now!
I love all of mine!😊
Too bad the gun stores I hit up NEVER have Colt 1911's in stock and don't seem to be able to order them.
GunBroker
Uh-huh. Whatever. DOES IT FEED HOLLOW POINTS? LOL.
Moreover, does it take Glock mags?
Nm barrel in every pistol? Not in my combat commander that was mfg in Nov of 2023??!!
Free operator tactibeard with every purchase.
I love my Colt 1911 Government.
Colt should bring bring back the .38 super match.
CZ owns Colt now. Gross mismanagement & very poor quality control along with unbridled greed brought this about.
More like CZ made Colt better
I wish colt cared about their QC. I just bought a Dan Wesson over a colt due to the F&F on the guns. My grandfathers 1990 colt custom carry commander example looks like the gun was made with a hammer and an angle grinder. Terrible F&F. Same with newer firearms (QC, not necessarily F&F with modern machinery).
Bought a commander in 78 , it stovepiped / jammed out of the box ,, over the years I had others. All were failures, the only 1911 that ever ran flawlessly were custom
Now, if Woody can get my New Delta Elite to run properly after the fourth attempt the $1800 I gave Colt may not sting as much.
CZ!!
I own a Colt Delta EliteGen ll 10mm 1911 😎😎😎🔥🔥🔥
sold to cz 😂
Make them reasonable priced
LOL
The word "legendary" is the most overused word the last 5 years.
The only handicap is the low ammo capacity.
Learn to shoot
Just slip an extra Wilson 8 rounder magazine in your back pocket. Or an extra 10 rounder or two in the pouch. Most double stack 9mm mag pouches will hold 2 1911 single stack mags.
@@ms.annthrope415 Oh my God! Reload???
Lol at the local range Iv very quietly and with much mirth watched a Norinco pos .45 walk circles around a Colt 1911, was actually really sad considering the Norinco had tooling marks basically all over it and built in a sweat shop in CHIna.

CZ making Colt Great Again.....
Lots of talk to say nothing. Summarized, they put an improved recoil spring in the gun... so legendary. Sounds like any other 1911 out there. Y A W N

Adjust your machines Colt, I'd love to buy one if they were decent!
Bring back Defender XPS, in 9mm. Make 10mm competition
Don't fix sonething when it aint broke.
I want. I want, I want....😊
God bless all here.
If these 1911s didn’t have a Pony on them, they be mid tier. Hey Colt, who makes your forging? S&W…
Colt today is not the Colt of yesteryear, only similarity is the logo.
Colts still making 1911s ?
Why did I receive a “checkmate” magazine rather than actual Colt mag?
Because Colt doesn't make magazines. Check-Mate has made the Colt-branded magazines for years and years. Still, pretty cheesy to not bother with the Colt branding.
Good luck finding one
Still can get one from CMP but it still $1.2K for CMP fair condition.
I’m not sure the Colt spokesmen could tell more lies. “A relationship with law enforcement…”. Ha! CZ needs to fire all those people.
Every Colt spokesperson I've seen seems like a sleazeball lol
The 1911 was basically the start of modern handgun shooting for law enforcement and the department of defense so he wasn’t lying. Colt rifles are still used by a lot of departments and are still in inventory in a lot of base armories
I want one.
Are these current Colts series 70 or 80
70
If you don’t know don’t ask…😂😂😂😂
After over 100 years, the 1911 is still going strong. I wonder if Colt is reproducing the old government model 1911s.
Hello.
Sure they do.
The classic model is the old school goverment model.
They are producing it

They’re acting like they never made the XSE line.
1st thing, change you distribution network. Too damm hard to find a Colt dealer. 2nd, LOVE your customer, ie be very user friendly. Third think outside the box, Colt should have had a "2011" style 20 years ago. 4th, move out of the NE part of the USA, those state governments hate you.
Magazine capacity please, at least 16 rounds would be nice
Do you know what 16 rds of 230 gr, 45 ACP would weigh?...on TOP of the 32+ oz weight of the gun? And then this point....why?..other than marketing bragging rights. Most gunfights are over in 2-3 shots....and it doesn't matter on the range.
Get a Glock or a Beretta.

Slip another 8 round Wilson mag in your back pocket.
I would not recommend purchasing a new Colt. Look around for an older model or better yet a Wilson or Springfield.
Colt, your guns are overpriced in a flooded market.
