Great reaction, thanks and congrats on scoring your tickets!
"Megitsune" is one of their most loved songs and their most played live one: 352 times... and counting. So, you are getting it at the concert almost for sure.
It was released in June 2013. Su-metal was 15 years old while Yuimetal and Moametal were both 13 (about to turn 14) back then.
The guys in the background are not their band. The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments are actually dancers from the Movement Design group. The woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown is Chidori Yakumo, their director.
The word "Megitsune" = "me" + "kitsune" which means female + fox so, vixen. Hence the "kitsune" masks everywhere.
In Japanese folklore, the "kitsune" is an entity capable to transfigure into a human form (mainly into a young lady) with the objective to deceive men and cause them pain. So, they sing that they aren't "kitsunes" but "megitsunes", "pure-hearted maiden-like female foxes", as the lyrics say. It's basically a women empowerment song.
BABYMETAL fans are known collectively as "The ONE" and "kitsune" / "megitsune" individually. So, you can tell this song is important!
It took 36 demos to Takehiro Mamiya best known as Yuyoyuppe (or Yuppemetal), the song's arranger, until Kobametal (their producer) was 100% happy with the final result. It may sound crazy but this is why "Megitsune" is one of their best songs (if not the best).
In my opinion, this music video is a masterpiece. Its locations have become pilgrimage destinations for fans around the world:
    - The stage where they are performing is called Nohgakudo (Noh theater) at Asagaya Shinmeigu Shrine in Tokyo. This is a stage where music and dances are performed during festivals.
    - The shrine right before the breakdown with the orange-ish torii gates is the famous Fushimi Inari-taisha in Kyoto. The girls were so happy that the director traveled to Kyoto just to film that sequence.
I am lucky enough to have visited both locations during my trip to Japan (among other incredible places) last February / March.
    🤘‍🦊

"No more than 20, maybe 19..." Ha! Actually, they were only 13 and 15 at the time!! 11 years ago..wow how time flies by.
And yes, learn the choreo...Many Fans do the dances to their songs during the concerts!! Have Fun!

If you're seeing them in November I recommend watching the live videos so you'll know your parts for the concert. The crowd is as much a part of the show as the girls and the band.

Great reaction and congratulations on getting your tickets to see them. This video was released in 2013 - Su-metal was 15, Yuimetal and Moametal both 13 nearly 14.
'Megitsune' is a big favourite, often coming top in fan polls and it is the song they have played live more times than any other. It is also arguably the song that showcases better than most what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen or koto, I have no idea on the difference) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains the fox masks in the video🦊) which, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive.
It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional subservient female role in Japanese society saying that is changing I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength.
They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not deceptive kitsune (foxes), they are maiden-like megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong.
The melody used in the breakdown with the pig squeals in the middle of the song (they also use it as the intro when they play it live) is from the very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms).
When Su spoke a few words and pulled the tanto (short blade) out of her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss.
Most of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. The guys at the back waving the traditional instruments about were dancers with the lady who did the fan dance's troupe.
You will never see (or hear) the Kami Band in the official videos unless they are from live performances.

    ⚡ 💀 💕 / 🦊 ⛩
[MOA] SU-METAL will slash you. Really.
    [YUI] Yeah. [SU] (laughs)
(Megitsune video commentary from the BABYMETAL members)
Su was 15. Yui and Moa were 13, almost 14 when this video was released.
Even though they were wearing white robes, this was not the Kami Band.
The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group.
Chidori Yakumo is their director. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown.
Thanks for reacting to this one. Megitsune is my jam.
It's still my favorite BABYMETAL song, video and choreography.
Definitely quintessential BABYMETAL and one of their most Japanese songs.
BABYMETAL's producer Koba sent this song back to the song arranger Yuyoyuppe dozens of times before he was satisfied with it.
This one often tops fan polls, and has been performed live more than any other BABYMETAL song.
Much of the video was shot on location on a Noh drama stage by the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo.
This has become something of a pilgrimmage site for BABYMETAL fans.
Yui and Moa considered the choreography for this song to be the most difficult on the first album.
It made 'Doki Doki ☆ Morning' seem soft. : )

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。In an interview Su-Metal said (1) This song is mixture of various elements ; very fast but smooth, hard but beautiful etc. (2) The tune and choreo have Japonesque flavor which may attract overseas fans. (3) This is her tuning song because it includes various factors for singing in a well-balanced manner. So she always sings Megitsune in rehearsal to confirm her vocal condition. Su actually said "in a sense, this is a song of criterion for me". (source : Tokion Vol.7 2020-12-24)

Definitely one of their iconic songs everyone loves. Yeah they are like 13 and 15 in this. They are now around 25 years old and Su Metal said in a interview, they do have to work a bit harder to keep up with that choreo. There sort of is another band, Metalverse. It is basically a new sister band to Babymetal and made by the same company Amuse and the idols come from the same sakura gakuin that babymetal came from originally. They do many of the babymetal songs and appear at babymetal events but also on their own and they do have some of their own songs. Like babymetal, these girls are teens not adults, wear basically the same costumes but there are 5 of them not 3. They are worth watching as they can perform and sing as well as babymetal.

  • @Ganimal83

Nice one! This is a fan favorite and an absolute early classic from 2013. This song was Babymetal's 5th single, and first song as an independent act (after they broke away from their parent idol group the girls all came from). Su was 15, and Yui and Moa were 14/13. This song has been performed live over ~350 times by now I believe!
When you get a chance, be sure to check out a recent live performance, they are even better now that they're in their mid-20s. Also, be sure to take a look at the lyrics. It's deep and calls on girls to shed the traditional double standards imposed on them by society to be themselves, becase what it means to be "an ideal woman" is changing with the march of time. You see this at the start when Yui & Moa rips the Kimono off of Su, symbolizing the shedding of cumbersome traditions. Babymetal is always slightly rebellious in their own adorable way, haha 😆.

Great reaction! Love this band so much. They have literally helped me out of some very difficult times. I really wish/hope I can meet them face to face one day just so I can thank them for helping me through such difficult times. They are my grounding rod these days. I saw a few people mention to you a bit about this song, when it was recorded, who performed, and how old the girls were, etc. To help you out a bit, Yui is the girl with the baby cheeks that has that Kawaii pouty face that you said Kawaii to (I think that was when you said they were so Kawaii anyhow lol). Moa is the girl with the dimples when she smiles. Yui had to leave the band due to health reasons, although it's my hope that she's still involved with Babymetal, just more behind the scenes as she loved this group almost as much as Su does.
I totallly jealous of you that you're going to their concert in November! I got to go in October, but I want to go again! I'm hoping they come here to Vancouver again some time soon, and I don't have to wait over 10 years for that to happen again lol Can't wait for more of your Babymetal reactions for sure!!!
It just occurred to me, but I think on Babymetal reaction days, you should put your hair in pigtails like Moa and Momo since your always dancing in your chair while reacting. You can be an imaginary part of the group that way! 🤣🤣

I can't believe you have only listened to 5 Babymetal songs, at least that's what's in your playlist. You should react to anything live, form the Yui days, from the Avenger days or from now with Momo, everything they do live it perfection. And if you are unsure what those periods are, then you should react to one of their guides, there are several guides that tell you a lot about Babymetal, one from the early days and another that is updated this year, they are really captivating. And if you want to know more about Momometal, who you saw in RATATATA, react to Momobanger live, your jaw will drop to the floor, just don't do the compilation version, try the Legend MM 2024 one from For The Fox God.

Check out one of their first vids BABYMETAL - Ijime,Dame,Zettai from 2012 or 13 the girls 12 or 13 at the time Su being the oldest. It was the first of their videos I saw and only because in the beginning there is a burning flying V guitar and piano music some mild vocals and then just goes off the rails with some heavy ass guitar riffs. I almost skipped it until the guitars blasted in and at first I didn't know what to think these little girls and very heavy metal music. I had to replay it a few times to take in the whole idea of the band. Been a fan ever since.

"maidens" is not part of the original line, but is grafted on in a way that's natural in japanese grammar. more importantly, this "translation" is way too stuffy compared to the original. a better translation would be something like "fuck around and find out".

    Megitsune:-
"Megitsune" (メギツネ, "Vixen") is the second major label single by the Japanese kawaii metal band Babymetal. It was released in Japan on June 19, 2013 as the fifth single from the album Babymetal. It is also the first single released independently from the idol group Sakura Gakuin.
The single was first announced for a June release on April 1, 2013. The single was released in four versions: a standard edition and three limited editions. The "Ki", "Tsu", and "Ne" (Kitsune means "fox" in Japanese) limited editions included single artwork focused on Nakamoto, Mizuno, and Kikuchi respectively, and their included DVDs feature footage of two songs from each of the live performances from Live: Legend I, D, Z Apocalypse. Additionally, the single included a chance to contain a ticket to the premium event Kitsune Festival at Meguro Rock May Kan on July 14, 2013.
To promote the release, the band was featured in the June issue of Marquee and on the cover of the July issue of Hedoban, in addition to collaborating with Tower Records for the 34th rendition of the event No Music, No Idol?.
    Babymetal concert chronology:-
•Babymetal Death Match Tour 2013: May Revolution (2013)
    •Babymetal World Tour 2014 (2014).
The Babymetal Death Match Tour 2013: May Revolution (BABYMETAL DEATH MATCH TOUR 2013 -五月革命-, Babymetal Death Match Tour 2013 -Gogatsu Kakumei-) was a promotional concert tour by Babymetal, occurring in conjunction with the promotion of "Megitsune". The band performed four shows, with two on the final tour date, at the same venue. Customers who purchased tickets to the tour could receive an exclusive edition of the single, with a remix by Yuyoyuppe, under the name DJ'Tekina//Something.
According to Mizuno, the tour was designed to be a "training tour". During each of the four shows the three members wore stage costumes for the eras of "Doki Doki ☆ Morning" (which had become nostalgically small for them), "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!", and "Ijime, Dame, Zettai", respectively, with the final show premiering new costumes for "Megitsune".

If there is one song that can be said to encapsulate the essence of Babymetal, it's Megitsune. It's their most performed song and the song that wins most fan polls for the favourite Babymetal song. This music video is probably their most iconic video outside of Gimme Chocolate to the degree that fans visiting Tokyo go to location where it was filmed at Asagaya Shinmeigu (a shinto shrine dedicated to Amaterasu Omikami in the Suginami ward west of Shinjuku). I went there to see it myself when I was in Tokyo in January 2023. It's one of a number of "sacred sites" around Japan that Babymetal fans make pilgrimage to when they visit.

Hola. He descubierto el canal recientemente.

Stacey, thanks for the fun reaction to one of our favorite bands. We see no one has introduced you to our absolutely favorite band who recently toured with BABYMETAL in Japan. The band naming is THE WARNING, and they are a three piece rock band from Mexico! The members are Dani on guitar born in 2000, Pau on drums 2002, and Ale on bass 2005, and they are sisters. They have a massive world wide fan army that will descend on your channel immediately following your first reaction with huge amounts of information and history on these three amazingly talented young ladies. We are going to list for you two of our favorite videos that we'd love to watch you react to each. First is a cover to "Enter Sandman" as a tribute to Metallica in three parts; as VERY young ladies that changed their lives forever, then two recent live performances. The second is one of their many original compositions, "Survive", again live. The story of their journey is heartwarming and incredible.

Another female Japanese band I think you will love is Lovebites. They are an all-female power/thrash band. Since you like anime, you should hear their song "Winds of Transylvania-Vlad Love version". It is a song written for the Vlad Love anime.

If you haven't heard them yet, and I don't think you've posted a reaction, I recommend Nemophila. Another all-women Japanese metal band, formed in 2019, immensely talented, with varied styles. The one thing I'd say they're NOT going for, is to be cute. They've got some attitude in their sound, but still with positive messages.
