I can't imagine the process it takes you to organize all this information and put it all together for us. So much work and dedication was put into this video. Absolutely great video explaining Bass problems for any learning producer. This information is gold! So good.
4:33 another option to set to mono and resolve some of the volume fluctuation is by setting the utility to “left” or right, soloing one channel will prevent some of the phase issues from summing the channel to mono, and require less limiting in many cases
These flow chart videos are phenomenal. I am a very visual person and these flow charts do a great job of visually breaking down a problem into smaller steps. Really makes me feel better equipped to tackle some of these problems on my own without needing a tutorial to tell me how to solve every little problem. Is there a way to get the flow chart as a reference without always coming back to the video?
Just what I needed to watch, great timing! Last night i spent like 4 hours trying to fix the bass on my mixes, makes life much easier when you know the methodology
the timing on this was weirdly clutch because after not producing for a long time, i finally started again recently and was almost finished with a track but was having bass issues. thanks a ton! ps - PLEASE post the flow chart. that would be IMMENSELY helpful and beyond gracious. thanks either way though :)
Great video - also some plugins introduce delay like the Native Instruments Scarbee Rickenbaker Bass (i.e. a ~35ms delay from the initial attack/click sound that you can enable). It’s almost like an uncompensated latency in this particular case. This can really mess up timing and phase so it’s another thing to keep an eye on. In this case you can use track delay but should render it out to see what’s going on and adjust from there.
I was completely hopeless at dealing with phase issues before this; I had no idea how to even diagnose the problem so I’ve abandoned quite a few projects that I think I’ll revisit now. Thanks!!
At 3:08 I think when you use the Pro MB the youtube subtitles translated your words to "use something like a Prambi. At first I was thinking, what the is a Prambi? Then I realized you said Pro MB and it should have been obvious; would have been if I wasn't watching those subtitles. . Love your content! ! ! As people are saying, you get right to the point and give clear and also comprehensive instruction!
I just really really love this algorithmic approach you have to solving common problems! Even for pros it's super useful to go through a certain process, as one tends to try the last thing they did that worked versus actually utilizing all the different solutions they know! Buying this course for sure :)
Your methodology and mind map are amazing. There is nothing better than a good methodolgy to progress quickly. Thanks to you! I know where I'm going to go now :)
My favorite way to make the low end mono is to high pass the sides, and add a low shelf boost on the mid signal at the same frequency. That way, you don’t lose the frequency balance! I have a preset in Pro Q called Bass Focus that already has this set up. I just set the frequency to taste.
The reason I prefer it over collapsing the stereo image, is because of the phase cancellation you demonstrated. With this technique, you don’t need to compress or limit, so there’s no artifacts! :)
Thank you Alice im pleased I found you.i think I'm going to learn a lot here. I like your style .is exactly what I need in my music, control I'm on board
Dear Alice, in what way we can obtain the flowchart(s), please? Is this only available by purchasing you courses or can be purchased separately? Thanks.
1:37 it's not really important in practice, but it's good to note that single volume points in that graph don't "create" volume, it's the change in time (moving up or down) of that value that produces air movement and thus sound. I digressed so moving to the whole: I love the troubleshooting graph, amazing idea and really quality content, glad to find your channel :)
Alice! YOU ARE THE QUEEN! Will definitely return to this EXCELLENT tutorial! I just Mega love your stuff! Best, random Swedish cinnematic indieelectronica and synthwave producer
Hello Alice , thank u so much. I just want to know is there some discount on your courses for the blackfriday .. I am interested in buying all ur courses in a single package like PML used to do .. I will be very interested to buy it during this black friday . Thank you
Hi love your videos ! Extremely helpful ! I use Logic Pro x , do you know if there is an envelope follower like abletons ? Or a way of doing this so that I can do dynamic distortion ? Many Thanks John
Silly question, but I am assuming this concept applies for stems mixing too right? As in leads could cancel bass or vice versa? The concept of phase feels hard to get, but I feel its always overlooked and this is a huge concept to get down early
Hello, I have a question, how to remove te low freq from the delay you put on the bass without effecting the low/high cut on the original sound of the bass, but only effect the eq from the delay of the bass? I try to put an eq after the delay in an fx send track in cubase, but the eq effects also the original bass track, not only the delay. SO I can't send an eq only on the delay without effecting the original bass track, also not as an fx insert in cubase. Do you have a solution for this, as you explained in 15:49? Kind regards! Rogier
My biggest problem with bass always tends to be in the mixing. I find a bass and tweak it to perfection, then when the kick, percussion and synths come in, it just gets drowned out. I think I need more transients too but also the bassline is just G O N E. I've certainly tried sidechaining with the kicks but I think the problem lies more in how the percussion and synths are much stronger in mid and high where the transient cuts through. I don't know how to fix this without removing elements but the percs and synths are too crucial to get rid of.

Just what I needed to watch, great timing! Last night i spent like 4 hours trying to fix the bass on my mixes, makes life much easier when you know the methodology
Great to hear that, good luck with your mix, you got this!
The amount of information you bring across in a short time while still being understandable, it's impressive!
