Hello Novo Ants! I love your content and it has helped me with my ant keeping I live in Japan and right now it is the nuptial flight season of the campanotus species that live here, and watching your videos really get me excited for ant keeping (I have been able to catch a few queen ants, and they have started laying eggs)
Thank you very much, it’s a hard slog on RUclips trying to get found. I’ll get there slowly and I love getting comments and interactions from my subscribers. 😊👍🏼
I noticed Bull Ants don’t really have a giant winged queen and or winged males, do they? They fight for Queen status and the dominant one get to breed and lay the eggs?
It depends on the species. Most have a large winged queen, this colony does, the queen is much larger than workers, however some species like my brevinoda can also have ergatoid queens, they don’t have large thoraxes and hence are not as big but still act like a queen. Some species have other workers that take over the role of a queen and fight for dominance. I’m not all over understanding that yet but hope to expand on my knowledge and I’ll be sure to share it all as I find out interesting facts. There is so much to learn about ants. Not a lot is known and studied on ants.
Hi I have a new bull ant queen for almost two weeks and going well so far. Without disturbing her what is the most obvious way of knowing she has laid eggs?
Hi, thanks for the comment. Live food is best however they sometimes take dead food, I’ve mainly experimented with meal worms cut in half, they do take them but prefer live food like small crickets. If you give them frozen food I would suggest defrosting it and try it to see. 😊👍🏼
I have a question about bull ant workers watching a bull ant take on a paper wasp ,the ant stung the wasp. We have asian giant hornet ,would a bull ant worker be able to tackle a asian giant hornet in a fight ?
Good question and they probably wouldn’t get a chance to attack each other. I think the hornet might win as they are large. The mandibles would do the damage I would say
Love this colony of little giants
Yeah they are pretty cool, happy to have them.
Great video, nigrocincta normally evolve quite quickly compared to pyriformis or brevinoda giants
Yes they sure do…apparently but mine have been struggling. The queen only lays a couple of eggs at a tine

Unfortunately all of my nigrocincta queens have died along with my first colony of them but it’s great to see that these guys are doing great
Yeah it’s up and down with this species with me. I have had little success overall with them but this colony seems to be going ok

That is really hard to find out. Best to check her but only every couple of weeks. A Quick Look and no sudden movement when you uncover her.
Hello, I would like to know if this species only eats live food or can it also be fed frozen insects. Thank you.

Did you catch this yourself or bought it?
I was given this queen some time ago…from memory. I have bought one before but she died. Thanks for watching
I've always found the massive ants very interesting. Too bad they take so long to mature tho.
Yes they do take a while. Worth it though and means you don’t have to upgrade nests too often.
