    I have the same species and my queen died too!! I kept my workers and still fed them. A couple months later I now have a worker laying eggs and they are now at larvae stage. Fingers crossed this worker had mated and is now producing workers and not drones. Good luck with yours!

  • @Ninuturu
    @Ninuturu 3 года назад +2

    queen was dying, thats why they are producing alates, the workers feed the larvae more protein to make the larve become alates. In this case that is
    Her missing legs is due to her being dead and dried, which makes them accidently ripping her apart when they drag her

    • @NovoAnts
      @NovoAnts  3 года назад

      I’m not sure that’s always the case, colonies produce alates every year to start new colonies but existing colonies keep going. I didn’t know the age of this queen but I suspect she was on her way out. She had one missing leg while freshly dead so I think they attacked her. Oh well comes with the hobby I guess. Thanks for watching

    It's sad what's happening to your queen. I'm looking for this species for a long time and on Ant Keeping depot they didn't get it yet :/. I am also looking for Myrmecia nigriscapa. I could take Myrmecia pyroformis, it is not yet sent by Ant Keeping depot, in France we have nice species too, but Myrmecia have something really unique. For your colony, couldn't a male from another colony breed with one of your winged females ? Or couldn't a male be born from the remaining eggs and breed with one of your females?

    This is devastating. We currently have a M. pilosula colony that has female alates in the colony and the Queen is fierce and is going around and destroying her alates! We panic every time we go to our outworld and it looks like we have a dead queen because she rips their wings off as well. So based on that, I hypothesise that maybe your Queen got jealous but couldn't match with the competition.

    • @NovoAnts

    That is soooo sad! Maybe one of the queen alates wanted to try and gain dominance over the queen and therefore tried to fight the queen. 2 weeks ago my myrmecia nigrocinta colony, with 100+ workers, queen went into the outworld and continued to lay eggs by then a week later she sadly died.
