    Congratulations on the second gen cocoons! Pretty much the point that I feel you have a possibility of longevity with this colony...
    Only thing I would have done differently is waited until you had these cocoons, before placing her tube, into the bullant den with the other two tubes... Worked well for me personally and meant she never had a nest that was "too" big so to speak

    • @NovoAnts
      @NovoAnts  3 года назад +1

      That’s a good point, this colony have proven to be quite tricky. The bull ant den comes with the three tubes already there so I just let them move in. So far they have discarded 2 cocoons that didn’t hatch…not good, I hope the other two don’t get rejected

      @FreedomForAll2013 3 года назад

      @@NovoAnts that's not good mate, its not too humid is it?
      I use one complete dry tube, with two that have water and noticed they use both from time to time regularly of larval or pupal stages... I think too much water can restrict breathing through the silk (not that this is likely the cause but it's something to keep in mind)

    Just wanted to check with the live feeding, before any workers hatched and you only had the queen were you still doing love crickets in the outworld or something else?
    Just caught my first myrmecia today.

    • @NovoAnts
      @NovoAnts  Год назад +1

      No I wasn’t giving live food until the eggs hatched. However occasionally I would give a mealworm cut in half to her, just as a source of protein to drink if she chose. Bit make sure she has sugars available all the time for her strength.

    • @NovoAnts
      @NovoAnts  3 года назад

      Great question, it can take a couple months, depends on the temperature a bit and how much protein the larvae receive.

      Hi, thanks for commenting. Yes the queen can lay again. Normally a queen eats her eggs if she is stressed. If you can make her feel safe again in time she will lay…most of the time. The first batch is always the best though to try for. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 😊👍🏼

      It escaped out of the screw hole on the outworld, my mistake not the formicarium. I should have covered them as I had detached the nest that screwed on. 😃
