Dr. Swamy knows Indian economy inside out. He's actually a true economist, not a book worm. The new age so called Indian "capitalists" have bench marked US economy and want India to follow the same. If you counter them, you're a automatically a socialist. Nice to see someone like Dr. Swamy who is actually aware about the current state of Indian economy and people. Wish he was the finance minister.

Subramanyam Swamiji is a brilliant Economist. We wish he should have been India's FM . Freebies in the form of food rations during calamities is necessary to protect livlihoods of poor but not more than that as the saying goes " give a man fish to eat it will benefit him only but teach him how to fish his whole family benefits meaning thereby creation of employment opportunities in society is the best solution for progress of a country.

If guys give free bees and steal money throw these kinds of projects we call them political thieves.... legally robbing the country....like electoral bonds.

Free laptops at state level etc. all this while the poor remain poor. And because of freebies we have no money to spend on education and health which will actually help poor. Truthfully politicians do not care about helping the poor, least of all socialists. They believe in assistance to make poverty more bearable. Manmohan Singh is a glorified economist. He was at the helm of affairs from the 60s. At best he was a stooge. Credit must be given to Narasimha Rao for the bold economic reforms and not to MMS. What did MMS do in the 10 years as PM? Maximum Non performing loans were given to crony capitalists during his stewardship. India would have gone down the tube if it was publicized. Luckily it didn't get enough headlines to ruin the country. Remember the stupid thing called the retro tax? MMS and Pranab were the architects. MMS in my opinion is not a role model for sardars.

@@georgecheriyan what evidence do you have to support your assertion that it was Rao and not Manmohan who planned and executed all the reforms? Just making statements does not mean they are true, you need evidence. Worldwide (except in brainwashed Hindian media) Manmohan Singh is credited for the reforms. But Hindus, in their hatred for minorities cannot even acknowledge a plain truth. Rao was in way more powerful positions vs Manmohan before 1991, if he was such a reformer, why did he not have any achievement worth to boot for, before Manmohan saved Indian economy from disaster. During the 2008 crises while the world suffered, India was saved becasue of Manmohan...look what your hindu hirday samrat has done in last 7 years. We are back to command and control nonesense.

Rather there should be a system of Give and Take. A credit system. Eg. A person works very hard in the youth and retire with sufficient money to take care of minimum 2 people in old age. However, in just 2 to 3 years, the purchase value comes down to 50 pct or even less in certain goods and services. That person is finished. This lead to corrupt practices, hoarding land flats gold and what not to secure the future. If one has contributed in the working years, there should be a system support where certain services and basic needs are available at subsidised rate or free. Perhaps India may be the no. 1 country in gold holding. Heard that the poorest in Kerala TN have minimum 1kg gold in their possession. There should be a long term policy and short term policy, very well defined.

Swamy is a Keynesian economist Ig. Government spending during the depression or any other time creates a bubble of spending that can burst at any time, most important part in saving the earned money and especially in non-fiat currencies so that government, on some random day thinks of printing more money and reducing its value. Endless consumerism isn't good, and if that's how an economy is built, it won't be stable too. Again valuation of a product by someone is on their choice, and it can't be stopped, but bailing out everyone and the so-called kick start to the economy hurts in the long run, coz you have to pay the money later, and the moment someone raises taxes to pay it up, they will face backlash and get no votes. So governments go for money printing and yea that's the tax that comes as inflation.
Moreover, US is kinda immune to this as of now, because they are the global currency, if they lose this anytime, it's gonna be chaos there.

Most EU countries and Japan charge 40% tax & all citizens get free education(till 16 years, many countries till Phd), health and social security. This is not freebie but implements equality as needed by ay democratic society. But in India we pay over 55% tax get nothing in return. All politicians get cars, bungalows, aeroplanes, helicopters, security, etc pensions even if elected once, Is this not freebies?? Public money for public is NOT freebie. Also freebie cannot be caste, backward, reservation, etc basis. Period. Now new buzz word to fund corruption from public fund is to rake up "freebie", Capitalism & socialism.

17:10 Government caused interference one's working then, so that is the only position I would accept giving someone freebie, it's a hindrance caused by the government. In other cases, be it free healthcare or free education, I wouldn't be that favorable, why coz then why not clear loans or give free money to someone who has started a stationery shop or hotel after his 12th, they too add a lot to the economy, and some of them might open franchises of theirs across the nation. Healthcare and education costs can be reduced in several ways such as reducing restrictions on medications, approving generic medicines faster (which FDA in the USA doesn't do), reducing taxes on education and healthcare by religious institutes. Instead of making Univs like amusement parks, it should supply basic stuff for students, not house a stadium that big. Moreover, in places where there are free healthcare and education, there are higher taxes on stuff like sugar, fat, etc. There are taxes on certain kinds of bread, cakes etc. AFAIK many German Univs don't have stadiums and stuff, they have basic gyms and sports complexes, but not like USA.
As long as someone doesn't hurt the other person, or cheat someone through the business, the government should mostly leave it open.

How do you answer concerns on ecology? WHat will happen to marine life which can fall prey to turbines?
How about maintenance of rust? Did you see some country (perhaps Netherlands) in Europe which tried to stem the seawater eating in the land and they built some huge mechanical system to control but the efficiency is far less than thought.
Again, how do you harness the tidal energy without harming other things and realize the scale of energy?

Another great video, as usual. But please stop saying "impact"; it's a nonsensical jargon word that's unfortunately becoming popular. Nothing is crashing or colliding into anything; what you mean to say is "effect" (as the noun) or "affect" (as the verb).
