Believe it or not, James told a story in an interview that him and Cliff Burton were watching the “Ten Commandments” and the part where God sent his angels out to kill anyone’s first born who didn’t put lambs blood on the doors inspired the scene in the movie. cliff said the following “whoa, that’s creeping death man!” That’s what inspired the title of this song and the movie itself inspired the lyrics. So yes this song is about the story of the Jews finally leaving slavery from Egypt

One of Metallica’s most iconic songs is FADE TO BLACK off of the ride the lightening album. The same album this one was on. React to that one. Slower tempo but very melodic. Hope you give it a listen. It’s about the end of one’s life. But the way they do it , it’s kind of melancholy in a way.

Cause when i first heard Creeping death, it was the Moscow live one and i thought it was ‘meh’ cause I didn’t have a sense of the sound. Yeah, ya'll got it! They definitely went Biblical here, based on the Book of Exodus, when Moses was sent by God to deliver the children of Israel. Ya'll mentioned them referencing the plagues and the Burning Bush. It's sung from the perspective of the Angel of Death, who passed over any home that had the lamb's blood over the door post but slew all the first born of Egypt that did not, including Pharoah's own son. Metallica taking us to church if you will. 🙂 ⛪🤘🔥

It is about the story of Passover, the ten plagues, etc, but I believe they got the inspiration for it from the movie "The Ten Commandments," with Yul Brynner. The phrase, "So let it be written, so let it be done," was commonly repeated in the movie by the Pharaoh.

When James Hetfield and Lance Burton were watching the movie, and the final plague sent by God came onto the screen, Lance said "Look, man! It's Creeping Death!" You can literally find every line of the song, represented in the movie.

Metallica was always one of my bucket list bands. I actually had tickets to see them in little old Tulsa Oklahoma in 1992 with Guns N Roses. I told my folks I was working and got to the show and Axl Rose decided he wasn’t playing for that night and it was cancelled. Then both bands went off the charts and Tulsa didn’t have a big enough venue to get them to come back until January of 2018 and I finally got to mark them off the list. Metallica is literally the best live band I’ve ever heard.

And at one point, he shifted his weight so hard and fast while I was headbanging that I ended up falling over. Everyone around me was freaking out but I was laughing my ass off. Apparently, there was a mosh pit going on in my stomach! LOL 🤘😁

It's the Moses story with the plagues and all that good stuff. You could react to the live version from Seatle 1989 or Moscow 1991, they're freacking amazing performances.

Asia is 100% right on this one.. This is from First version story of the 10 commandmends.
Pharao first son was put in a basket in the river of the Nile to save him, not to be killed.
The bush of fire and all the stuff that comes around until he saves the people and find the 2 stones with the commandmends.

One of Metallica's best guitar solo's is on the song Ride the Lightning, I highly recommend it.
