- One of the most requested songs in the comments section and on our live show, Metallica Creeping Death from the Ride the Lightning album. Alexis really liked that the song told the story from the perspective of one of the plagues of Egypt, creeping death.

I don't think Alexis understood, and if I'm mistaken ignore this comment but, "Ride the Lightening" is an old phrase for being executed by electric chair.
Are they father and daughter??
If you keep going I bet she will also like the 4 horseman
The live version from Russia has over a million people chanting "Die", one of the craziest moments in concert history.
@robrobert9541 Entirely possible. Either way it made for an unreal moment and cool story.
Yes, these two should review that too knowing what they know now
@@robrobert9541DA sounds more like “duh” than die
@@robrobert9541 In Russian word "to give" (imperative mood) sounds exactly like english "die", so they could've chanted that as well :D
They were singing "dye", asking for a change of the flag's color.
I'm with you Birch , I never looked at the lightning and thought it looked like the letter "M", Thanks Alexis. I bought this album in 1984 when it first came out.
If you emboss the Master of Puppets hands over the top of it it's sith lightning coming out of Palpatine. Not to mention the 'shoosh' finger to the mouth on the kill'em'all cover. And don't ask me about my Smokey and the Bandit trivia questions....I can kill a vibe in 10 seconds flat haha
Same here, never saw that "M" in the lightning ,before Alexis explained it. Thanks for a good reaction also.
I've been listening to this album for 40 years and never noticed the M either.
I never knew about that until just now 🤣.
I was born the same year as this album came out, so I didn't really discover ride the lightning until 97, but... that is till over 25 years that I have been looking at this cover, and I have never seen the "M", untill now.
Wow, now I am really curious to know if this was intentional or just a coincidence.
The entire album is FIRE! When this album came out it started a metal revolution. It lit a fuse that exploded with Master of puppets. Which completely changed metal forever.
I was never a serious metal fan and I didn't hear Metallica until ajfa. How did they change metal forever?
@@jaleach123 pioneers of thrash metal, which inspired many bands including slayer which inspired most extreme metal genres today
They made Heavy thrash music completely listenable and commercially successful with Zero video support. They were absolutely the biggest band in the world that had no airplay or film clips. A remarkable achievement.
@@jaleach123they are one of the big 4
@@glenncoleman6253 It is wild to try and explain, and likely nearly impossible for people who weren't there to truly understand. They weren't on tv and they weren't on any mainstream radio - yet they could sell out arenas touring the world. They were killer live. And, crazy enough, they STILL are. Absolute beasts and legends.
Fantastic song, it is great to watch the live in Moscow 1991 version with 1,000,000+ people chanting “die” it’s surreal
Live in Seattle 1989 is even better
Wrong. They chanted "blyat". xD
I took my 16 year old daughter to see them in Indy. She knows all the words to all the Metallica songs. It was awesome to see her throwing her fist in the air yelling "DIE!" over and over. All Metallica fans know when to sing and who long to sing. They are the greatest metal band ever!
The lightning around the chair on the album cover also looks like wings.
In an interview the interviewer said something like "Creeping Death is obviously write by someone with a religious upbringing." James responded "Or it could've been written by someone who had just watched The Ten Commandments."
Classic James
Old metalhead here too and never noticed the "M". You learn something everyday.
The lyrics from this song were inspired directly from The Ten Commandments movie. The late Cliff Burton came up with the title, Creeping Death, when he commented that that's what it looked like as it swept through the town.
Great movie. Watch it every year on Easter weekend
Welcome to where time stands still… no one leaves and no one will…
I LOVE that song!!
Sanitarium
Very powerful lyrics! Ain't the music hit you hard but the words and the patient perspective
That’s from Master of Puppets not Ride the Lightning. Good song though
James and Cliff were watching the 10 commandments, Cliff called the Angel of Death "Creeping Death", and that was the genesis ---npi, of the song.
I'm a huge Metallica fan and have never noticed the M on the cover either. Creeping Death is a master class in intensity, everything about it. The solo is so good.
I feel like I could sit with Alexis and Burch and talk for hours like longtime friends. It always seems so genuine and fun. This was a great reaction!
They’re really down to earth, and just people you relate to.
Cliff Burton was obsessed with the movie, had the band over to watch it on his VHS. Hence the song.
Now for a special, You two need to react to the live performance of this @ Moscow 1991. I'm 47 and I never noriced the M from the bolts on the cover.. You are not alone.
Couldn't agree more
I've never noticed the M either, I been listening to this from day 1 and have multiple copies over the years
Moscow, 1991, Creeping Death. Monsters of Rock.
I remember in high school, it was brutally cold out in Michigan winters. My buddy, one of the very few with a car and drivers license, would pick me up on the really cold icy mornings. 6:30 AM and this album would be blasting while it’s 12f out. This song snd “Trapped under ice” were the favorites during the mornings when ice was covering everything 😂
What a great song. The one that created a controversy, back in the day, was "Fade To Black". Lots of discussion about that one's theme.
When you consider the event that inspired the song's lyrics, it's not nearly as serious as the lyrics may infer.
One of my favorites
I'm 47 years old and this is the first time I noticed the lightning M. Crazy.
Wow she's got very fast attention to detail I never noticed the lightning em before. Nice catch!
Been listening to them since 86 and never noticed the M either. Good eye
I think it's from the perspective of the angel of death, the deliverer of the final punishment on Egypt, not all the plagues. In some lines it sounds like it's the perspective of Moses also.
Kirk Hammett Wrote The Guitar Riff...When He Was 16 Yrs Old!!
He wrote the middle part with the die die lyrics
I too feel like a blind man, I've never noticed the M either.😮 I've bought this album at least 6 times since it came out.
It kinda gives you chills
Damn it man. I’ve never noticed that M and I’ve have it since it came out in 84 😅
Don't feel bad I never seen the M neither. Just told my son about you video and he said "yeah you never noticed that? This is music from when you were a kid ". Lol
Ride The lightning is my fav Metallica's record by far. Such a classic!!!
54 yrs old here, ive known this album since it came out, never seen the M before either lol
Never noticed the lightning-M. Had the vinyl, had 2 singles with the same motif, have the CD. See it every now and then over the last 40 years. Never noticed it.
It's one of those things where they go "Don't you think it's a bit on the nose" in the creative meetings.
Star Trek did the same with me a few years back. Data is the android, Lore is his duplicitous brother (also android). Then about 4 years ago I saw "Trust Data, not Lore", and I finally got the wordplay. After 30 years of fandom.
Great reactions! From what i know, the story of the song has been told by James Hetfield, the vocalist. He said Cliff Burton, the late bassist, and him were watching the "Ten Commandments", the famous movie classic, when he suddenly made the comment: "Creeping Death" as the scene was portraing the death of the pharoe's son. So, that was the beginning of the writing of the song, i'd say.
made me appreciate the song all over again, thank you guys
Their brilliance at such a young age is what made them who they are. You didnt get such in-depth POV's in lyrics like this unless you had experienced musicians or a team of writers/composers. They were 20-21 years old at this time. They were the Mozart's of Metal.
Lol they were Mozart's with Cliff and Mustaine.
Those guys wrote most of the first two albums.
First time commenting and not sure if you two are father/daughter or just know each other but enjoying the video. To the gentleman, have you seen Metallica before the arena days? I'm asking bc I've only seen them in clubs. Once, at a skating rink, lol. Anyway, keep up the great work and introducing the young lady to some fine music.
I seem to remember an interview where, I believe, James had been watching Ten Commandments and thought it would make a cool song.
omg girl the thing you noticed about the lightnings forming the letter m...all those years i missed it lol I'm blown away 😂😂😂
Alexis is a dream! Love all Metallica reactions, keep it up.
I`ve listend to the Album for over 30 years, got it on vinyl and the shirt and also haven`t noticed the "M" on the cover. Crazy!!!
I definitely would recommend Sanitarium and Master of Puppets for Alexis to check out. 🤘😎
Both awesome!
One of my favs from Metallica next do the Four Horseman
you know i'm turning 32 this year been listening to metal since i was 14, and i always thought the "electric chair" in the "Ride the Lightning" album logo was a silver oldschool microphone.
I can see that looking at a smaller image. If you never owned the actual vinyl album its completely understandable. But did you see the M? 🤣
@@flickeringboxofficial vinyl's were something for the upper class, i never started that hobby.
The plague is the Angel of Death sent to punish Egypt for not believing. So really it's written from the Angels point of view. Also they've said they write about things that frighten them, a good example being trapped under ice.
It’s so cool you did that album version over the Moscow one everybody does
Speaking of holiday traditions, "Alice's Restaurant" every Thanksgiving.
My dad took me to their show.. holy moly greatest show ever! Metallica’s music is based on drug addiction, mental illness & political violence just pure rock & roll rebellion
Bought the album when it came out and never saw the M. Holy crap I feel stupid now
This song was the very first song my old band rehearsed, it was and still is to this day one of the most fun songs i have ever played on the guitar.
This song really show that Metallica is just not some braindead "just write a lyric for a quick cool factor band."
And i think that is one of the big reasons why they became as big as they are.
Creeping death live 1991 mosco. The best watch.
Burch is every Metallica fan introducing someone, who has never heard them before, to the best Metallica
Ive never noticed the m either and ive had this album over 30 years lmao
I think the 'M' on the lightning strike cover was probably an accident but who knows? Good observation. I never noticed it before either.
The lightening in the shape of an M, never noticed that, nice catch!!!!!
I never noticed the "M" in the lightning either. Wild. Now, I can't unsee it.
I’ve been watching this channel for several months now, but I’ve never subscribed and I don’t know why. But now I do know why ha ha ha. It’s real. There’s no fake anything. You’re not putting hands to face with your jaw dropped open and your eyes bugged out. It’s an authentic reaction. I’m subscribed now. Great job both of you.
Hey Mr Birch, I was in high school when this album came out. Creeping Death had always been my favorite song. However, it was 30 yrs later after watching that Charletin Heston movie the Bible on Easter Sunday, later I was listening to this song and it hit me in the face, and I was blown away that I never caught that before. These are definitely some of the best lyrics ever wriiten.
Led Zeppelin- Since I've Been Loving You (live at msg 1973)
My favorite version of this song is from the 1991 show in Moscow. Check it out.
#CliffBurton wrote this masterpiece with w riff and Corus from #kirkHammett from his teen years, and was put into an Exodus song called Die by His Hands, but never made it to a Exodus Album.
My favorite Metallica album! Keep up with the great music❤ love to hear more queensryche! Promised land is an awesome underrated song.
Your in studio sound is SO GOOD. You do not appear to be wearing lav mics. I can't see a stationary mic, so maybe it's overhead? There's hardly any environmental sound at all. Yet you are both loud and very clear. No weird reverb or anything. Just really clean intelligible dialog. Very impressive!
Thank you so much, that means a lot! We use 2 - Sennheiser 416 mics mounted to the celling.
When I was very young. My parents brought us kids to watch the original version of the Ten Commandments in a local theater. I still remember it to this day.
Thank you! Even in Omaha, the few punkers & Californions showed us! Salut!
Rock on!
I agree, Burch, The Ten Commandments, one of the greatest movies ever produced and your right they destroyed it in the remake. I pull it every now and again to rewatch and still marvel at the special effects and size of it. Seeing though CGI still wasn’t around back then.
Four Horseman is another song with biblical reference. Awesome reaction!
This song absolutely rocks from start to finish but the solo and the part right after the solo are my favorite parts.
to spot that M sign from the lightning strike, girl you are so smart
I didn't notice it either until now. Thank you Alexis.
This song is what attracted me to Metallica, I also bought the album when it came out but never noticed the M in the lightning either, so don't feel too bad.
Little side fact about James Hetfield (singer/rhythm guitarist) is that his parents were Christian Scientists, so he spent a chunk of his early youth around religion.
Love your channel. So glad I found you. Great that you're sharing the classics I grew up jamming to.
I think I knew it was there but don't think it ever fully registered. The crazy things are mind can do to us. Thanks for the reaction and the perspective. Enjoyed it.
BURRRRCH!! Sorry I'm 5hrs late on upload, (work ya know?). I'm so glad you introduced Alexis to this gem. The riff to the "die, die, die" part was written by Kirk when he was 16 and was going to include it in Exodus and it was about to go on their next album before he got the call in April 1983 to replace Dave Mustaine in New York . So he brought it with him from San Francisco to NY. He learned the songs from Kill Em All on the flight over and got the gig the same exact day Dave was canned. Dave was fired in the A.M., Kirk got the job in the P.M. Obviously the riff didn't show up until the next year 1984 (RTL) since Kill Em All was already written. Can you imagine that riff on Bonded By Blood? lol Anyway, just wanted to throw that tidbit out there for the viewers. Stay Frosty dude \m/ \m/
Thank you MM. That is an awesome "tidbit" and as Paul Harvey used to say: “Now you know…the rest of the story”
Im 52 I didn't see the M in the lightning either brother. I have this Album to this day on every type of media. Saw them live 3 times on this tour alone, have 3 Ts with this cover on it...never saw it. But now you cannot unsee it lol
Cliff Burton and James Hetfield were watching the Ten Commandments and Cliff said in a spooky voice as the angel of death came by on Passover “ Creeping Death” so James and Cliff wrote this song.
No worries Burch. You aren't the only one. I'm 56 yrs old. I, too, had the vinyl. I, too,, saw the M, for first, time, with you.🙂
8:23 transitions like that are why Metallica became so famous in the 80s before they got any of their mainstream attention. No one could put a song together like James and Lars whether it was Dave, Kirk, Jason, or Rob helping them along the way, those 2 had the magic when it came to songwriting. People want to talk about musicianship sure. Megadeth has always had class A musicians. Guys like Queensryche and Tool were about their technicality but man nobody could put songs together that flowed so well like James and Lars.
Master of Puppets if she don't watch Stranger Things.
Yep. Another killer song that tackles a topic from a unique perspective.
Us metalheads have grown up but still love our metal
I did not care for this song too much back in the day for some reason. I never really gave it much thought, but I became familiar with it enough that some lyrics stuck in my head, but had NO clue it had anything to do with Moses, the bible, or anything - just never paid that much attention.
Fast forward almost a decade later, when I am watching the movie The Ten Commandments on TV, and all these little things keep popping up that sounded familiar - the mention of plagues and darkness 3 days long, hail to fire, the bush of fire, blood in the Nile, and of course, the phrases "let my people go", and "so let it be written, so let it be done" - finally a light bulb goes off, and I recall where I heard it all - I race to my CD collection, pull out RTL's booklet, look over the lyrics to Creeping Death, and bam! There it is. All of it. NOW the song made sense to me, and NOW I had an appreciation for it. I really enjoyed the movie so now that there was a "soundtrack song" for it by Metallica, it was even better. Creeping Death is now my top fave Metallica song, along with their Diamondhead cover of Am I Evil.
One of these days I am gonna have to stitch together a "fan video" combining the song and scenes from the movie.
Pretty sure that video already exists ..
@@trulyunoriginal
If it does, I'd like to see it.
And if it does, I wouldn't let it stop me from making my own anyway.
More than just the "plague".
It's the archangel's perspective.
Saw Metallica in Phoenix a month ago and Creeping Death was the first song they played was awesome 🤘🏻
Holy shit, I’ve never noticed the Lightning M either!!
You need to do Lepper messiah
Yes, yes, yes. One of their best songs, criminally un-reacted to.
So glad I got to grew up in the late 70s and the 80s great album
Omg I’ve never noticed the lightening M either!
Metallica was my introduction into Metal back in 1988/89 or so? Maybe 90. Idk, was a kid then but man oh man when I first heard it. I was like wait, what? This is the best thing I have ever heard. First cassette tape I bought was this, I never noticed the M till Alexis pointed it out too lol
That made me laugh so much Burch didn't notice the "M" in the lightning Alexis pointed out. 😅
Oh wow! The heaviest riffs ever!
I'm with you Burch, we grew up the same era, to this day we never miss ten commandments every Easter.
Holy shit, I never noticed the “M”. I’ve been a Metallica fan for 25 years and looked at that album cover thousands of times and never saw it…
Still favorite track off that album
I just seen them a month ago in jersey
I never realized before, but the song goes thru God sending Moses from the bush of fire. Then it goes thru a few of the plaques.
Fun fact..... The Riff at 8:25, just before they sing "Die... By my hand" was written by Kirk Hammett when he was 16 years old.
I am so happy that you are reacting to Metallica. Metallica is very well known for their transitions. The music will transition many times within the same song. The Master of Puppets album is famous for this exact reason. Three songs that show these incredible transitions for you to react to are "Sanitarium," "The Thing That Should Not Be," and a long instrumental called "Orion." Can you react to these? Thank You!
I have the album since it came out and no... I never noticed the lightening M either. Maybe I did? I can't remember much of those days.
Did you know that Ten Commandments is a remake? Cecil B. Demille did a silent movie first.
