Well Tom played most of the instruments by himself and wrote most of the songs. Without him there would have been no Boston. Today Barry is still playing all the songs that Tom wrote. And believe me I'm not putting him down, I think that Barry is a true gentleman and a great musician. But it doesn't make sense to bury Tom. That's like saying Lennon and McCartney were no good because you like Harrison.
@@magneto7930 true enough. They were bigger than the sum of their parts. I just wish they would be given the credit due. Tom is a genius putting it all together but should share in the success of what they were able to accomplish.
@@mikegass2272 I honestly think Tom felt a little bruised when Barry released his solo album and it was being promoted as the guitar sound of Boston, or something like that. I'm sure he thought his sounds were being credited to someone else. That's why he threatened not to deliver the next Boston album until such promotion was stopped. I can't blame him for that, although on the other hand I also know that it was not Barry's intention either.
Tom Scholz took material from Barry's band Mother's Milk and rerecorded it on his own demo which became the first Boston record. Yeah.....that makes Tom the main songwriter....insert sarcasm.
Even Barry acknowledges Tom wrote the songs…and played most of the instruments. Jim Masdea now has an interview out where he claims he “wrote” the songs with Tom. Barry is one hell of a musician and guitarist. But Boston was all Tom Scholz. None of the band members ever disputed that. Barry has expressed frustration that he wasn’t allowed to contribute more and wasn’t happy when the record company pulled support for his solo album. He has plenty of gripes, but has never alleged he was ripped off.
Tom was the main songwriter & leader of the band. Tom was having disputes with the record label & the label thought that he was taking too long between albums. The record label convinced the rest of the band to sue Tom for rights to the Boston name to make an album without him. That was the last straw for Tom. He fired everybody except for Brad.
@glennb.. the one common thing that got people fired was promoting themselves outside of the band for personal projects while using Tom's(Boston's music) i can understand that. as far as i know Barry Goodreau was the 1st to be let go for that reason & I think Fran Cosmo & his son- were also let go for that same reason and from what i see Fran is still violating Tom's wishes, i just saw a video of him & his son w/ their own band at Disney singing "Rock & Roll band.check wikipedia .

I`ve always heard throughout the years Tom was a egomaniac and didn`t play well with others and was very difficult.
A usual sign of that is when EVERYBODY else is wrong.
