Takeaways: - Taking ownership = being responsible for everything you do - Ask yourself, "Can I send my work to the client and it will be complete and sufficient?" - Don't always go to your team lead when you are missing information. Reach out to other departments yourself, etc. - Think one step ahead, and don't always JUST do what you're told. If there's something else you think should be added, add it or talk to your supervisor about it
Make sure to watch the whole video. In the middle of it I share a tip I learned at McKinsey about how to improve your Ownership Mindset. Hope this is helpful!
I know that this is a bit of an old video, but this has had a profound impact on me. My boss has said I need to own it but it never really clicked until now. Thanks
Thank you for such an insightful video, Heinrich. I have been doing my internship for half a year now and have been struggling to set up an ownership mindset from the start. Your video absolutely make the topic really clear and set me in the right mindset. Thank you so much as always! Keep it up🎉
Hi Fadira, thanks for the feedback. Yes, had some issues with my audio setup in the first videos. Should be fixed in all the newer ones :) Best and thanks for watching! Heinrich
Sir…..GREAT video. I am applying this approach at work and it is hard. It requires work. It also achieves results and provides answers. BTW I’m in the social services…..
Great video....the mindset hack I used to develop ownership mindset is I try to think of myself as company e.g. Faruq Haider INC and this company is delivering a service. I ask two questions: (1) will my company Faruq Haider INC receive great reviews (2) will my company Faruq Haider INC receice more work/high profile work because of the work products? .....if the answer to the questions is not sure....50-50....I know it is time to go back....
Great videos on the channel, thanks for the content. How would you allow/ensure that other people share their opinions/ideas if the content is already "ready for the board"? Isn't there a risk of blocking creativity and thoughts of others collaborating, maybe more introvert people, if they get a finished looking doc? I feel this approach might be hindering at some point
Hi Marcel, trust me that it unfortunately happens far too often that a polished deck gets completely destroyed by partners etc. the evening before an important meeting. Iterating on such decks is common practice. Thanks for watching! Best, Heinrich
Hi Michael, give them feedback :) One little thing you can try out to start building this mindset with your team is to never accept someone coming to you only with a problem / question. Always expect them to also come with a proposal for a solution. Make it clear that you are happy to co-create the solution with them, but you always expect them to bring a suggestion for how they propose to resolve the situation first. Best! Heinrich
what do you do when you started at a job with a full on ownership mentality mindset, but the company culture eventually took that ownership mentality away from you?
Hi Shane, indeed can see where you are coming from, some organizational cultures are just not great. If you really feel like the culture is toxic and a bad environment, at some point you might also consider leaving. Best, Heinrich
Consulting is great, but in many ways a lot of "theory" and less execution. After 6 years, I was looking for a change into a more entrepreneurial role, which is why I now switched to a managerial position. Best!
I was very guilty of that in the first few years of my career. What do you think by the way about the Zalando CEO quitting early to allow his wife to meet her career goals?

I understand ownership but extra eyes are always good especially when doing data driven analyses. There's a reason why we work in teams.
Hi Kriti, yes you are absolutely right. This is not to dismiss the value of team work. Thanks for watching! Best, Heinrich
What it means is that the work you create will be so good that when it is reviewed it will have no errors. EVEN if it has errors, they will be minor

Why did you leave consulting?
Consulting is great, but in many ways a lot of "theory" and less execution. After 6 years, I was looking for a change into a more entrepreneurial role, which is why I now switched to a managerial position. Best!
Lablablalabla.
Sorry to hear you did not enjoy the video. Still thanks for watching!
I was very guilty of that in the first few years of my career. What do you think by the way about the Zalando CEO quitting early to allow his wife to meet her career goals?
Hi Alistair, regarding the Zalando CEO, I see this as a personal decision of him / his family. Good for them! Best, H
Get to the chopper
Way to go! ;)
Try changing your background as is too plain. Will make your videos more interesting
Thanks for the suggestion Anna. Yes, need to work on this indeed :) Best, Heinrich
This can be in contrast to the concept of MVP or shitty first draft.
