The DS universe did a good job developing lore when the first two games came out. It’s a shame the third one kinda made all the lore seem like a rush job. EarthGov felt like a large entity in 1 & 2 but then only was a footnote in 3. In all of the lore, only 3-5 large ships are mentioned or seen in EarthGov. Feels like they coulda done more.
I think by 3, Earth-Gov had fallen to attacks by the Circle. Earth was still under their control, sure, but then the Moons showed up and nipped that particular thorn before it could sting.

The Federation of Planets from Star Trek is pretty benevolent, though it has had to lie on several occasions to keep the people from either panicking or jumping to catastrophic conclusions.

Typically markers require activation before they transmit their primary frequencies. Close proximity (within a few miles) of an inactive marker will still cause mental issues, but it takes an intelligent species to activate its effects. In DS: Extraction This is done with Marker 3a by lifting it off its pedestal, which caused widespread mania, leading to a mass suicide. This was followed by recombination, and as the marker was taken to the USG Ishimura the colony was slaughtered by necromorphs. Its signal went from a faint and mild depressor to a far reaching herald of insanity. Within days both the Aegis VII colonists and the Ishimura's crew were turned against each other and rendered meat for the marker following its activation. The Black Marker's case is similar. The Mesoamericans that lived near it were aware of its effects, albeit naïve to its actual properties. The weak willed in its presence succumbed to madness, and what became of their bodies were disposed by the rest of the tribe. After a couple of centuries of living next to an inactive marker, they developed an resistance to the signal, and following the mild necromorph outbreak in DS: Martyr, the marker was relocated by the Sovereign Colonies to a secret facility. In both cases the Marker's signal was present but severely hindered.

@@nihilityjoey tf are you on about? The marker most definitely did affect evolution it allowed humans to evolve in intelligence so they could become technologically advanced enough to spread across the galaxy and reproduce... that's why the brethren moon sent the black marker in the first place!!
I find it very difficult to believe that there would be a resource scarcity or an energy crisis with a civilization that has interstellar colonies FTL capable ships and such, nuclear power is pretty clean and safe and reliable and that technology is getting better

maybe there was other remnants still around but they we're the last 'official' battalion still trying to fight.
@@thedoctorss69 Yeah, and now that I think about it. Maybe they were the last battalion on that planet/colony, but there were still more on earth.
Likely just an oversight by the dev team. 2 and 3 were massive undertakings.
