- Is it true that anyone can "Pilot" the Skydio 2? I use the word pilot lightly because the Skydio 2 pretty much flies its self even in manual mode.

Hope you guys enjoy the video, I talked to the SKYDIO guys a couple weeks ago and I know they have been on a pretty major hold with production over the past couple months with the whole Covid 19 thing, especially with them being based in the bay area of California. I heard that they have been able to slowly bring production on line again and should be shipping drones again. If there is anything you guys want me to ask them I can touch base with them before doing my next "review video" and try to have some questions answered there. Thanks for watching!

man I would love to be on the Skydio program, but most of my footage that's drone-able requires hours of hike-a-bike here in the east and I wish there was a foldable version to carry it!

Thank you! Put the Skydio up a for a few first practice flights yesterday with the beacon and phone. Pretty amazing for outdoor athletes. Your tips on the auto track (with obstacle avoidance) while flying with the controller were awesome! Want to be able to combine cinematic footage with MTB, ski, trail building, and getting rad outdoors.

Thanks for the video Kyle. Always excited to see more skydio stuff. I'm glad to hear they're back in production. I was expecting my lot to ship in July, but I'm sure it'll be later in the year at this point. I don't mind since I know it was totally out of their control. I think that this drone is extremely rad for foothills and desert mtb filming since the automation can do it's thing without a bunch of trees.
My realistic dream update would be multiple point cable cam functionality. Then you could link together a pretty rad shot through the trees if you take the time to program in a path that works.
Yeah they are working on that from my understanding and the ability to upload a "flight path" or map I told them my dream would be to sync my gps ahead of time and tell the drone where to be and what angle to be at for certain jumps or turns on the trail.
@@AprilRideMTB that would be amazing! It would be rad to have the ability to input more guidance into the automated pilot to get more usable shots that are closer to what you envisioned. It's really rad that you've developed a relationship with the company so they're getting useful feedback from mtb community.

If you don't mind, I would like to give a storytelling suggestion. You could have stared this video using the drone... having hover in front of you at eye level... introduce the video, much the same way you, then have the drone take off, zooming up as you become the little guy on the ground..showing you are at the bike park//// and you could ended with the same dialog here, but start talking with the drone way up, and then have it zooms in on you as you finish your ending.
or you could have used the zoom in or out the opposite... start your introduction as the drone is overhead, maybe even following cyclist, then have it zoom (using zoom for camera shot over speed) in on you as you finish up.
Most people think of transitions as only being visual... but you can do editing by having your camera watching one thing, but the conversation/dialog being somewhere else... This allows you to go from one place physically to another... but the transition will be smoother because the viewer's mind can think one place to the other... through thinking your voice there... does that make sense?
You can use the drone to do an establishing shot... If in the video where you rode every trail at the Boice Bike Park, it would make the bike/helmet mount shots have some perspective for the viewer.
You have done this before, when you had April on the bike for proper position, with the bike sitting on a scale... your long shot, then you looked down and then cutting to the scale, allowed the viewers mind to make the transition. In that case (I think) you actually recorded the scale at a different time... but because you were talking about the scale and then looking down... the viewers mind believed it was a seamless shot... it just looked that way.

Kyle Warner - Mtb I don’t know of any specific pilots in the Boise area, but there’s bound to be a few around the area. I would start by checking local Facebook MTB groups. After that, maybe the RotorRiot FB group... there’s gotta be someone close by.
Great tutorial for piloting. Can you answer a question? The drone is super good at avoiding stationary obstacles, but how good is it at avoiding moving obstacles, like a cyclist or hiker?
Thanks! so they say it is not meant to move around moving obstacles, one time i threw a beach ball at it to test it and it just got smoked haha. It will move out of the way of slow moving people or cars but i wouldn't trust it to avoid a biker at more than 5mph

Kyle Warner - Mtb The ankle is good. Hitting all the drops on stormin Mormon on it but after watching your video on drops my technique may be wrong 😂
Key question: Can it fly single track or is it just good for bike parks or open spaces?
It definitely works best in open spaces but it can navigate ok in well lit treed areas, most of the time it will just fly up and above the trees though. I posted a video of how it handles the trees in my Skydio playlist!
How do did the slow motion. What is the setup for that? How to do normal footage to slow motion and slow motion to normal. ?
What about around water? Can it decipher that water is not a good place to land?
the factory cable that the iPhone brings doesn't work for me which one you're using on the video that's from iPhone to type c
can u use just the beacon to fly and control this or do u have to use phone 2
You can use just the beacon as well but its a little less fine tuned for piloting
